ARCHIVED I Thought I Had It Figured Out....maybe Not
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just remembered something that might be a clue. About a month ago, after already beginning the gluten-free diet, I caught a viral stomach illness. I was vomiting for about 2 days. During those two days was the first time I had not had any hives in 6 months. Then immediately after I got well, they came back very severe for a couple days, then gradually... -

Yeah. Thanks. I went through the 20 something pages of comments earlier today and there are a few people who reported hives after several months use. I have seen a dermatologist and an allergist/immunologist and they both say hives, but I have not have them biopsied for DH. I was told they were not DH because there were no open sores, oozing or pain... -

Thanks for the suggestion, but yes I have had my thyroid checked. Everything is normal. The more I read people's comments online, the more I think the Effexor has been causing these problems and may have affected my immune system. -

No, I have not had any stool testing done, just blood. I asked the immunologist about it yesterday and he said I should go back to the GI specialist. I will try to schedule a follow up with them soon. I also need to get the specific patho results from them. They sent me the initial report from the procedure with the pictures, but that didn't show anything... -
ARCHIVED I Thought I Had It Figured Out....maybe Not
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks guys. I am scheduling an appointment to see if the psychiatrist will help me switch to another anxiety med. I'll keep doing the gluten-free diet and cut out dairy completely. Ugh...so frustrated! -
ARCHIVED I Thought I Had It Figured Out....maybe Not
jessicalw28 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So, as some of you know, I have been struggling with my symptoms for the last 6 or 7 months. They are mainly chronic hives and loose stools. I have had tons of tests done including allergies, celiac blood panel and biopsies; all of which were inconclusive. I have several chronic symptoms as well, which often go along with celiac/gluten intolerance like... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Hungry After I Just Ate And Skin Question.
jessicalw28 replied to Shashi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmmm...I still feel hungry after eating too. Been on the diet about 6 weeks now. As to the skin condition, have you looked into keratosis pilaris? I have this. It's where your hair follicles get plugged up with excess keratin. It causes a goosebump like appearance and your skin can be dry and itchy too. They are usually on arms, legs and butt, however... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Tests?
jessicalw28 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was wondering if anyone thought the Enterolab tests for sensitivities/intolerances were worth the money. I am pretty positive I have a gluten intolerance, but not sure about other foods like corn, legumes, etc. I'm not really sure how to go about figuring out the other intolerances on my own. Seems like a test would be easier, but it's pretty expensive... -
ARCHIVED Results Of Iodine Patch Test

The stained skin eventually started peeling off and left reddened shiny skin underneath. No blisters, but it is a bit itchy. -
ARCHIVED Food Stamps
jessicalw28 replied to OptimisticMom42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The Kroger in my town has a natural foods section with gluten free options. Do you have Trader Joe's? You can get gluten-free foods there for pretty cheap. -
ARCHIVED Is The Levbid Working Or The gluten-free Diet?
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks. I will gladly give it up. It makes my mouth so dry! Will check with the doc tomorrow. -
ARCHIVED Can Dh Be Mistaken For Hives?
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My hives or whatever they are, can be just about anywhere (face, neck, trunk, legs, arms, feet, scalp). They never completely go away, but just move around. They usually are symmetrical (both arms, both legs.) I also occasionaly get some swelling under my eyes and in my lips along with mouth and tongue ulcers. The iodine patch test that I did at home... -
ARCHIVED Is The Levbid Working Or The gluten-free Diet?
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Ravenwood. It's hard for me to tell if it since I started the med and the diet so close together. I guess I could find out if it would be okay for me to go off the med and challenge it to see if the D comes back. -
ARCHIVED Is The Levbid Working Or The gluten-free Diet?
jessicalw28 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doctor put me on Levbid to help relieve my D. I had a negative endoscopy, so he thinks it's IBS. I'm still convinced it's gluten, so I started the diet. The past three days, my stools have been more normal than they have in a long time. I have been on the gluten-free diet a little over a week and the Levbid about 2 weeks. How do I know which one is... -
ARCHIVED Should I Eliminate Soy Too?
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks Marilyn. I am limiting soy and trying to completely eliminate (I do have a carton of soymilk in the refrigerator that I don't want to throw away). I'll have to check out that book. I have had allergy testing and did not test positive for anything. It was done with blood though. The Dr. said the skin prick would not work properly because I was... -

Wow. That's horrible. I'm thankful to have a family that understands somewhat about my needs. I'm so sorry! -
ARCHIVED Sick Of Being So Different
jessicalw28 replied to GFMochi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't been doing gluten free very long, but I understand where you are coming from. It's hard for me because my family has always eaten out a few times a week. So every time we get ready to go somewhere I have to make sure they will have options for me and there's always a risk of cross contamination, but I don't want to be home by myself! It's especially... -
ARCHIVED Should I Eliminate Soy Too?
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I'm having lots of trouble with smelly gas, would you recommend eliminating legumes? I've given up carbonated drinks, but still drinking coffee (about 2-3 cups per day). Could that cause gas too? -
ARCHIVED Should I Eliminate Soy Too?
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone for your input. Looks like I'll be going soy free too, at least for a little while. And thanks Ravenwood for the trailmix recipe. Sounds delicious! -
ARCHIVED Results Of Iodine Patch Test
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It's been about a week since I did the test and the stain is still there. Not burning anymore, but the skin feels kind of dry and scaly where the stain is. Hopefully it will go away soon -
I have been gluten free for about a week now. My main symptoms are hives and diarrhea. I have not been officially diagnosed, but believe I am gluten intolerant or celiac. I was wondering if I should also try to eliminate other common allergens. I have heard that a lot of celiacs are soy intolerant. I already know I am lactose intolerant and have been...

ARCHIVED Results Of Iodine Patch Test
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have donated blood a few times and have not ever noticed that the iodine they use harmed my skin, but that was a year ago or more. I did not have as many celiac symptoms then. Maybe it has to do with the recent "flare up" of symptoms. I have not suspected celiac as being my problem until a few months ago. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Diet Effects On Non-Celiac Sufferers?
jessicalw28 replied to Chiana's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My fiance is a vegetarian and gets sick if he gets contaminated accidentally with meat. It's probably the same way if you eat gluten-free all the time. I would suggest he eat gluten free at home with you, but not when he eats out. Unless he wants to go all the way. -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy Results- Dr. Says It's Probably Ibs
jessicalw28 replied to jessicalw28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My biopsy results came back yesterday. Negative. I am still convinced that gluten is the source of my problem and will give the diet a good three month trial. -
I have thick, curly hair and have always noticed that it seems like it sheds more than normal. I wasn't sure if it was anything to worry about or not. I always seem to have a lot of hair get caught in my brush and have to clean the shower drain every day. My fiance is always picking stray hairs off of my clothes. I'm just starting my journey with the...
