  1. I don't have any words of wisdom, but I wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful baby, and was clearly so bright and happy...I said a prayer for you and for your family, I can only imagine how hard it must be. I am glad your second daughter is healthy, and will keep her in my prayers as well. Tarheel, I am sorry for you loss...
  2. That's exactly how I felt! Within a week or so, no more bloating or gas. The first thing I noticed after that was mood...I wasn't anxious, which had been bad enough to wake me up at night. I hadn't realized how moody I had been until I felt better! Then, my skin cleared up! People keep saying I look healthier. I would never have connected celiac disease...
  3. Thank you so much, I was so glad to see all of the products I use on the list! And now I'll feel safe trying a few new things out, too. I started using gluten-free shampoo and conditioner, I think I'm more sensitive than I realized at first and hopefully it will help. You've been so helpful with suggestions for gluten-free products, I appreciate...
  4. Me, too! And I'm not one to be unusually positive about things like this LOL. I realized how much junk I was eating, and how much "convenience food" my kids ate...and how *little* nutrients can be found in that sort of food. Now, instead of corn dogs or chicken nuggets my kids eat home-made cooked, cubed chicken and vegetables. Instead of chips, we...
  5. Here are 2 favorites! CARROT CAKE (this is great for the whole family, it really tastes like regular cake!) I can't remember exactly how long I had to bake it though. If you try it, you'll have to check every 10 minutes until a knife inserted in the middle is clean. 2 cups rice flour 2 cups sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons baking...
  6. Yes...This is my experience too. I feel so much better, but after 2 months gluten-free I am having D once a day (usually) instead of several times. I have also had 4 pretty normal bms! That's 4 more than I'd had in the last year, so I guess that's good! However I do notice now that if I get some wheat in accidentally....wow! I'm *really* sick. Much...
  7. I get anxiety when I have gluten, too! It sometimes actually wakes me up at night, almost like a panic attack. I posted on another thread about the gluten reaction I had this week...I was wondering if it might be the flu, too. But, I had no fever (although I felt achey as if I did) and no vomiting and no-one else in the house has the flu (that's a gauge...

    ARCHIVED Pain

Can you guys tell me more about your pain when you get gluten? I ate at a restraunt last Saturday and have been sick all week...was bloated for about 2 1/2 days with gut pain around my ribs and down, especially on the right side (both upper and lower) but alternately all over my stomach area. Also had D worse than usual although not consistantly. It seems...
  9. I have read that there are something like 200 symptoms related to Celiac's. This site has a pretty good list, but do you know where I can find a complete list...one that would have some of the "wierd" symptoms (not mostly GI related)? My Dad is thinking that celiac disease might be a problem for him, too...among many other more common complaints he has...
  10. Glad that some of you noticed a difference after going gluten-free! I'm hoping that the next go-around will be as easy as last time. I had never had PMS before but in the last 3 years (when my other symptoms had gotten bad) I had been having it increasingly worse.
  11. HI! Ok, I have no idea if I did that poll right, guess I'll see when I post it! Just wondering how long it takes before you feel like yourself again. It doesn't have to be 100% better, just better most of the time. I felt so good the first 3 weeks I was sure I'd be totally better by now, but it's been 2 months and I still go up and down and although...
  12. When I first started on this I thought I'd just aviod all bread-type products because it would be healthier anyway...but after about 6 weeks of that I can't stand it! I must have bread and an occational dessert! I used to bake all the time, so I figured I'd just mess around until I came up with some good recipes....Not So Easy! I did have success with...
  13. I'm trying to figure out what to do, too. I took communion this week and it was like I could feel the wheat go through my system (within a few minutes...and it hurt!) then I was really tired and foggy all afternoon. I know I shouldn't have taken it but I didn't want to *not* go, either. Sigh. I am going to have to go talk to the priest and see what we...
  14. Ok, I guess this is a question for the ladies here... Anyone notice that eating gluten-free effects PMS? I've only been gluten-free for maybe 6 weeks now, but I had been having bad PMS before and this month I had no problems at all! Could it be related? If so, my hubby will sure be happy I didn't have any PMS symptoms until 3 years ago, when the...
  15. Oh, I am so glad I found this post! I am not overweight technically....I am 138 and 5'7....but I am a good 10 pounds over the weight I "fit" in, if that makes sense. My weight fluctuates like crazy, too...I can gain 5 pounds after eating *nothing* for a couple of days, or can lose 5 pounds after eating *everything*! It makes no sense. I have always had...
  16. I have just gone gluten-free after years of feeling crummy--bloating, pain, constant D and itchy rashes etc. etc. I'm not technically dx'd with celiac disease because my doctor didn't think I could have it since I've never lost 15 pounds for no reason But I'm pretty sure that's the problem because I have felt great since going gluten-free! Anyway...
  17. Don't know if this helps but I had an awful reaction to an acidophilus suppliment, in fact that's when I started to be sick enough to think my problem was more than just IBS. I had D constantly and bad cramps, it started the day after I took the 1st pill and kept up for quite awhile. I can eat yoghurt, though, but in small amounts. I agree about the lactose...
  18. Thank you for the referal to the NIH report, I will print that out and take it with me next time I see my MD! I think that he will be more likely to listen to me if I come backed with evidence. I also think I remember being dx'd with DH (by a different doctor) 3 years ago, although celiac disease wasn't mentioned at the time. I am going to call and get...
  19. Are companies usually pretty good at telling you if something has g in it? I'm very new to this so I've never tried. The only experience I've had so far with asking about gluten in food was calling a Mexican restraunt...I asked if they had a gluten-free menu and was told (in very snotty tones) that "Of course not, we are an AUTHENTIC Mexican resturaunt...
  20. Is dextrin a no-no, or just Maltodextrin? The word "Malto" would make me avoid somthing, but what about plain dextrin? Also, so far the most tragic part of the gluten-free diet for me is blue cheese. I guess they grow the mold with wheat bread? So does anyone know if blue cheese *really* has enough g to cause a problem, and are there some kinds of blue...
  21. I just found a site that has pictures of mild dh and dh in areas other than arms and legs! I had been wondering if what I had on my hands was really dh and the photos on this site look exactly like what I've got. Ah ha! It's a relief to see that not all cases look like the "worst case senerio" photos I've seen until now. Here's the site: Open Original...
  22. Reading this has been really helpful! I get the little red bumps where my bra touches, too. I also have had chicken-pox like bumps since going gluten-free for some reason, they didn't crop up until I had an encounter with a can of non gluten-free chilli....then I got a couple of them and they hurt. I have had eczema for quite a while, although it never...
  23. Not major white spots, it's just that every one of my nails has at least one and sometimes more little white spots on them. I do notice that as they are growing there don't seem to be any new spots close to the nail bed, so maybe the gluten-free diet has something to do with it? I should probably find out about the calcum, though, because for a long time...
  24. Thanks, guys! A calcium deficiency...ugh, I'd definately better find a dr. who knows more about this because the last thing I need is a calcium problem! Yipes! Thanks.
  25. Hi, everyone! I am so glad to have found this place. I have a bunch of questions.... First of all, has anyone here NOT lost a lot of weight before being dx'ed with celiac disease? My MD said that I couldn't have celiac because I've never lost 15 or more pounds for "no reason". But while I've never lost a lot of weight w/o good reason, I also am not...
