  1. My favorite all time reason for changing doctors is when they look at you and say, "You look healthy." I recently had a cardiologist tell me (on a morning when I was especially sick), "You're better than advertised.... You advertise yourself! All you need to do is cheer up, be happy... you'll feel better!" And, at the end of that meeting, we both...

ARCHIVED Doctor Visit - GW Hospital

You know what makes me mad? We still have to pay these buffoons! I think it's the only profession where they can ignore you, not listen to you, be rude to you, actually give advice that in no way correlates to you and in the end, still put their hand out. It's shameful! I don't know how most of them live with themselves.
  3. Ask your doctor if Welchol could be a possibility for you. It is a cholesterol lowering drug which has the side effect of helping stop diarrhea. It was a God sent for me until I went off gluten. (That problem has now disappeared.) You can take it as needed. Halt it when constipation sets in and begin again when stools loosen. I found just one pill a...
  4. Speak to your doctor about this the next time you go in and ask him for suggestions.
  5. Hi, Mark, I'm new to this, also. By no means an expert, but I can tell you this.... Depending on the severity and progression of your disease, going gluten-free even when you totally control your environment and personally handle and fix all your own food can be a very hard road and recovery can be confusing and fraught with uncertainty over whether you...
  6. My gallbladder perforated and was removed 10 years ago. I am starting to think I have some sort of duct problem. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.
  7. I know exactly how you feel. The only thing that helps me dismiss that feeling is plugging each new symptom and the word Celiac into Google and having articles immediately pop up affirming that others have experienced what I am experiencing. Otherwise, I'd think I'm completely nuts. So many new things happening and I've tried not to overexpose myself to...
  8. A month off gluten and I seem to be getting worse instead of better right now. I have started having very pale and/or green stools. My stomach is back to being extended and hard. I have constant nausea and constipation. I am very light-headed and break a sweat after even light exertion. I am having baby migraines and find I feel exhausted after eating...
  9. It's been amazing and definitely the case with me, also. Thanks everyone for your answers.
  10. I just wanted to see if I am on track with my recovery and if anyone else has experienced this. During the first three weeks of my new diet, I lost inches off every portion of my body through the process of heavy sweating. I had had a sponginess that I always thought was just fat. Now, when I feel my ribcage, I can actually feel my bones and muscles...
  11. Ohhhh, I believe you. I know it would probably be much worse. Every time I come in touch with gluten, I have a strong topical reaction, can only imagine what it would do to my insides at this point. I am just feeling really discouraged bc my detox is lingering and I was under the impression it would pass quickly. I've getting a lot of the small blisters...
  12. I've been gluten free for 3 weeks and am having these same small blisters, scattered mostly on my back and rib cage, but, also, on my thighs and upper arms. My scalp has been hurting and I notice I have a lot of larger bumps om my scalp that I never noticed before. I have been sweating profusely since going off gluten and my hair is very oily. I was hoping...
  13. I was sick for many years with the gamut of classic Celiac symptoms without DX. Now, 3 weeks into being gluten-free, I am developing the small blisters that I read can be indicative of DH. I have never had anything like this before. I had been hoping that I would be one of those who did not need to worry about buying new toiletries and household products...
  14. Also, I'd like to know.... Before my blood tests came back, my doctor was monitoring me every week. Even on my last visit, we had finished, he had told me to make an appt for next week and then, my tests results came over the fax, he called me back in, told me the results, told me to make the diet changes and that he didn't need to see me until October after...
  15. Thanks, for your comments and concern. Yes, it is nice to have a haven. Right now - home sick - it's been easy to control my eating and I am sure I have been gluten-free. I haven't even ventured anything that could be tainted - all fresh foods. I think I will remove dairy and take you up on your suggestion to keep a diary. No more I thinks or, I remembers...
  16. I know I'm a bit late, but good for you. I was an endurance athlete - biking before getting very sick 4 years ago - and know how much one can miss what was for me my most beloved high - a runner's.
  17. I was had a preliminary diagnosis of Celiac 6 days ago. I had had a very long history of dumping disease, malabsorption, steatorrhea, fatigue, fuzzy thinking. At one point, I was almost completely restrained to my home bc my dumping was so bad for a year and a half. Anytime I caught even a small virus, I would be down for weeks and this has interfered...
