ARCHIVED I Feel Normaltravelthomas replied to DKS's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hi DKS, Remember that you developed your gluten diet over years. It will take you some time to develop diet without gluten in it. Raw vegetables and nuts can cause stomach discomfort. Gas can be caused by the order in which you eat sugars, complex carbohydrates, and proteins. As a general rule, eat the sugary foods (fruit, candy, pastries, etc.)...

ARCHIVED Wallpaper Paste Causes Pain?travelthomas replied to LisaP's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Hi Lisa, I also have been having chronic problems with joint pain. I have had the joint pain on and off all my life, but for some reason it has become constant lately. And like you my finger joints swelled up. I was in Texas for a month when it started. I also did a little work with some wall paper, but I can

ARCHIVED So Frustrated And Angry Todaytravelthomas replied to cornygirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Lisa, The really good thing about this point in time is, there is not that much unhealthy processed gluten free food to be had. Soon people will go from wheat breads and cookies to gluten free breads and cookies, without missing a step. They will remain fat, undernourished, and unhealthy, while thinking they are doing something good for their bodies. ...

When it comes to weight gain and loss, this is what I have noticed. When I get hungry it is for a purpose. My body needs something, either calories for energy, or nutrients to maintain my organs and glands. When my body calls for nutrients, and I feed it nutrient poor food, like breads, pasta, chips, and junk food, it keeps calling for more food to get the...

ARCHIVED How Do You Treat Diarrhea?travelthomas replied to crackrick's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hi Patrick, Eat whole foods like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and fruit, and balance them with a bit of meat. Avoid eating too many nuts at one time because they can cause diarrhea. Raw foods can also be a bit harsh on the digestive system, so you might want to really cook your foods good until your intestines heal up a bit. Avoid processed foods....

ARCHIVED Bloatingtravelthomas replied to Karina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease The order in which you eat a meal can create gas. Sugary foods such as fruits, carrots, beets, etc., are best eaten first because the body goes after the sugars first for the energy. It

Hi Emmeeann, To keep myself eating all day, I cook up a bunch of food at once. I cook up a big pot of brown rice and steamed vegetables. I refrigerate the food and eat it all through the day as I get hungry. I add a little meat to the vegetables and rice to balance out the carbohydrates. I also will eat red apples, but two hours after eating a meal. If...

ARCHIVED Newbie Cd Questionstravelthomas replied to GinaMarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hi Gina, From what you said in your post, I would recommend starting a gluten free life. The longer you put it off the more damage you do, and a lot of the damage can never be reversed. I will live with the pain and discomfort from the damage until the day I die. It would be nice to have a pain free day, but I am beginning to realize that is not going...

ARCHIVED Wheat Dusttravelthomas replied to MIddings's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I fully agree with Mariann. When I work on sanding paint, if I do not use a mask, I can taste the paint. It stands to reason that what dust settles in the mouth, WILL end up getting digested. I highly recommend buying a good mask with replaceable filters. Also consider the dust that might settle in your kitchen area, and touching surfaces that are covered...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free On The Road?travelthomas replied to Nadtorious's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease Hi Natorious, You might consider getting a backpacking stove to have with you all the time to cook meals (I use a Nova multi-fuel stove). Also a hot plate for inside the hotel rooms. MSR makes some really good stainless pots, pans, bowls, and plates. Stainless is the best for people with celiac disease, because if you accidentally make a mistake and cook...

ARCHIVED Cod Liver Oiltravelthomas replied to travelthomas's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hi Dessa, I've been using Now Foods glucosamine with some good results. Their glucosamine does come from shell fish, and the odds are that the glucosamine you took was from shell fish. There are some other products out there now that are not from shell fish. Maybe one of these might work for you. One problem with glucosamine is that it is a sugar, so if...

ARCHIVED Anyone Know What Causes This?travelthomas replied to bscarter46's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Hi Debmidge, To someone in India, the Garden State would be an exotic place. I think it is all in how you look at it, and what your perspective is. I travel so much because I just can not stand to be cold, and I really like fresh air (Goa was nice, but getting there is way too hard). I

ARCHIVED Diarrheatravelthomas replied to emmeeann's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease It is true that just some foods alone can cause a case of diarrhea. I find that if I snack on too many nuts I will get diarrhea. I also got diarrhea from a calcium supplement. If I do not have things like rice and bananas in my diet, I find that my stools become very loose.
