Adrainna got wacked (killed) she had IBS, plenty of episodes about it. I have a feeling they will do a dream segment and bring her back. Every year all the people Tony wacks, come back to haunt him in his dream. He's quite an emotional wreck last seasons ending after everyone is turning on him and he's alone. Carmella tossed him out, but we'll see where it goes. Adriana was a leading character and many of us LOVED HER and are bothered by him wacking her.

    REGARDING OPRAH --

Just a NOTE... I don't know if others have found this to be true but I have. People, press, lawyers and doctors don't hold high regard for E-mails. Most don't feel the need to reply. Perhaps we should send snail mail you know the kind with stamps. We can print out form letters that outline celiac disease. And get everyone we know to send it to them so their mail room fills up. They can delete emails, not so easy to tell the mail room guy to dump it all...

  2. chubbiegirl -- I read your blogg. Open Original Shared Link

Have your thyroid checked. It could be the reason you can't loose weight, hair loss and sleep problems etc.

Susan sspitzer5 -- Is right once your thyroid is messed up there is no going back. I found that to be true for me. I was GLUTEN & DAIRY FREE for 4-years. At that time I ate night shade veggies and lots and lots of SOY, a big NO NO. I didn't know that at the time. Since I had RAI radiation on my thyroid. I haven't gottten worse, but I am NO BETTER then I was before. No I can't east night shade and soy. SOY makes my hair fall out in a big way, the doc said it is my thyroid.

Oh, and S-T-R-E-S-S is the worst thing of all. The biggest challange I have is living stress free to stay well.

I fear my life on a feeding tube. Open Original Shared Link I have a story I will someday turn into a book. My dear beloved Auntie was handicaped (I havad Power of Attorney)and without my consent the nursinghome doc and hospital place a feeding tube in her and pumped her fill with dairy and gluten until it became unbearable for her and I. All I can say is -- Hospice has angels...

  3. Last night I had an idea -- for all those SOPRANO fans -- remember ADRIANA (Drea de Matteo - the girl now on Joey show) they had her suffered from IBS?

Too bad Tony killed her off because the writer and producer could have written celiac disease into the script. I have a feeling they are going to bring her back in the dream sequence they do about all the dead people Tony wacked.

Maybe we can write and see... The reason I say this being Italian -- in my research about celiac disease Italians have a high number with the disease. In Italy they blood test the kids and screen for the disease.

  4. Lisa-- I did a search and all sort of things came up. A lot of reading. I'll come back and post it here

Hope it's okay to post here we are talking about lipsticks... and it's on my mind

I was thinking and wondered about the connection with make up and breast cancer in woman. I read this article in my local Ft Lauerdale newspaper the other day. And I wonder

    Here it is:

Proposal would label foods, cosmetics with insect-derived red dye

    By ANDREW BRIDGES

    Associated Press

    January 27, 2006, 1:51 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Food and cosmetic labels may soon be required to list the presence of widely used red colorings made from insects, but will not have to disclose the dyes' origins, according to a proposed rule made public Friday.

The Food and Drug Administration has proposed requiring that manufacturers flag the presence of cochineal extract and carmine in their products. The red colorings are extracted from the ground bodies of an insect exploited since the time of the Aztecs.

The proposed rule comes in response to reports of severe allergic reactions to the colorings, the regulatory agency said. A 1998 petition by the Center for Science in the Public Interest asked that the FDA take action.

Carmine is used in ice cream, strawberry milk, fake crab and lobster, fruit cocktail cherries, port wine cheese, lumpfish eggs and liqueurs like Campari, according to the FDA. Carmine's also used in lipstick, makeup base, eye shadow, eyeliners, nail polishes and baby products, the agency said.

Cochineal extract is used in fruit drinks, candy, yogurt and some processed foods.

Cochineal extract has long been made from the dried and ground female bodies of an insect called Dactylopius coccus costa. Indians living in pre-Columbian Mexico were the first to recognize the cactus-sucking insect could be used as a source of dye.

In the present day, when cochineal extract or carmine are included as ingredients, their presence can be noted simply as ``color added.'' They're also sometimes listed as E120 on labels, according to the FDA.

As of February 2004, the FDA said it knew of 35 cases of hypersensitivity to carmine, cochineal extract or carminic acid. Carminic acid is what gives cochineal extract its dark purplish-red color. The acid is used to make carmine.

The FDA said it ruled out banning use of the colorings since it found no evidence of a ``significant hazard'' to the general population. It also declined to require that labels disclose the colorings are made from insects, as the Center for Science in the Public Interest had asked. The group did not immediately return a message left seeking comment. The agency said comments on the proposed rule are due April 27.

The FDA plans to tackle the labeling of prescription drugs that include the colorings in a separate rule. ___

  5. Paula Radcliffe have celiac disease?

I was looking for information regarding allergy and dust mites (I bought a book that is 50 years old because it had my famous great great great aunt name in it but its dusty.) As I Open Original Shared Link site here. I googled her name she's an athleteOpen Original Shared Link and it kinda looks like she is a Celiac?

  6. jerseyangel -- thank you for the kind words, you have no idea how comforting your words are. Thank you, you are a good soul! And thans for the post about our bodies attacking our self.

I'm still seaching for answers about Auntie's tragic life, the feeding tube and celiac disease. I am going to cause a big fuss with the doc's, hospital and lab. Open Original Shared Link. They are not answering my certified letters. If I have to make them appear in court I will...

How can we stop or slow down our bodies from all the other food intolerances? I can't eat very much anymore...

I also did the soy milk, rice cakes and blue corn chip. I lived on them and can tuna though out all the hurricanes. I think it is what caused the thyroid problem to get worse.

  7. Yes, I have it too.

I was hyperactive as a kid and all my adult life, you know A-type personality. Then super major chronic stress hit me, didn’t sleep, I ate bad food. In 2001 I got hit with both of these diseases at the same time. Which came first anyone know?

About 5 years ago I realized the food I was eating was causing steatorrhea diarrhea that has me weak and frail and I was having episodes where I would have seizures and pass out. It was frightening and still is I’m a divorcee` alone with no kids or new hubby. A gastro doc after co·lon·os·co·py said “spatic colon/IBS” and would NOT listen about celiac disease. I also saw an en·do·cri·nol·o·gist she said that if I calm my colon and the borderliner hyper - thyroid should balance it self.

I went gluten, dairy and stress free. I ate in my diet things like rice, potatoes, corn chips, night shade veggies, nuts and etc. I did very well. Or so I thought for 4 years – super major stress hit again – This time I grew a hot nodule on my thyroid. I had the RAI treatment. It nuked and burned up my thyroid too. I went from hyper immediately to hypo. The seizures following the RAI were terrifying. :o I thank God my 85 year old father  was with me to care for me. 4 months following the RAI the doc put me on thyroid medication. It was a challenge to get it right. I've tried many I can no longer eat corn, and it, dairy and gluten are in some form or some combination is in most thyroid medications. It’s been a year of challenges much greater then when I first realized I had celiac disease. I wish I could say I feel great. ;) Ha!

Since this last episode before the RAI’s I am no longer able to eat so so so many other types of food. Things like apples, oranges, night shade veggies, nuts, legume beans, and much more…

Celiac and thyroid problem which one came first?

  8. I was wondering also about autoimmune diseases because I honestly -- know nothing.

All I know is about 10-years ago my ex-hubby (not a doctor but we owned a chain of medical centers) he marched me around to all his doctor buddies they diagnosed me with all sorts of things, migraines, IBS, and etc. One was an autoimmune disease, A-type? I think I’ll go look it up in my medical files to be more accurate. I really don’t know what it means; or how it affects my other health issues.

Lately I have been doing a family tree and in reading my grandfathers death certificate I see he had an autoimmune diseases along with some of the diseases – chrissy – posted.

  9. Very informative posts... My head is spinning trying to understand good and bad tests.

I started seeing an ALLERGIST last year who said he treats celiac disease patients. I had a series of blood tests by a clinical lab called METAMETRIX. A huge waste of $$$. I believe the tests are not accurate and after I went through all the tests the doc admitted they [are NOT reliable]. HA! Why is it when you tell the doctors you are cash pay and m-o-n-e-y is a big issue and I have a hard time buying food, let alone pay thousands for needless worthless test they stick it to ya anyway. It's beyond me. Do the doc's not listen to what we tell them? I know they don't care!

The METAMETRIX test did not show I have a problem with WHEAT, DAIRY, OATS, PORK, ORANGES, or the other things I know I can't eat. Why? Why? The thing the test did show was that I'm high on the response to SOYBEANS. So I spent all that money for what?

I told him I can't afford more needless tests. Then the doc talked me into food allergy scratch tests more $$$$. Let me say I don't have asthma or breathing problems, maybe a few things like rag weed or northern plants that causes sinus problem as a teen. I've been living in Florida 20 years and no longer around those allergens. The girl that tested me was a doll; she was sweet and very helpful. First they made up histamines for me, I don't really understand why. You must put a drop or two under your tongue to prevent a reaction when you come in contact with allergens. The histamines made me a little dizzy and felt like I needed to lay down about 15-minutes after the drops. After that type of reaction taking it a few times, he told me to stop and throw the small vial out. More $$$ for nothing!

I asked about them doing a celiac disease profile. Although I know I have celiac disease, I'm not sure how it will change things for me (I'm gluten & dairy free 4+ years). They told me they don't do the blood work for the Celiac Profile I would have to go to Quest. Quest told me the tests are $700.00 for cash pay without insurance. Forget that!

Next -- The doc started me off scratch testing the foods I eat every day/week to see if they are the cause. I have moderate problem with bananas, beef, broccoli, carrots, chocolate, citrus, coffee, green beans, pineapples, rice, soybean (the other test said highly), tea, and turkey. << Those foods are what I live on. Higher allergic are apples, coconut and a few more.

I stopped scratch testing because I was feeling sick. The allergist doctor made an antidote SHOT for the things that the scratch test showed I have a problem with. It was $300 prepaid to prepare the antidote. I had ONE antidote SHOT and I got sick, it was before I knew my tooth was an issue. I look back in retrospect, I had a broken back tooth that was infected after taking penicillin based antibiotic (I immediately all over felt better), then I had a crown and root canal and fixed my tooth :D. I haven't been back to the allergist since to get more shots I'm not sure I want to waste anymore $$$ on scratches. I know I have serious food allergy problems more then gluten & dairy, and as time passed they are getting worse. Anyone know what that happens?

I know my celiac friends here are so helpful and know a lot more then the docs that treat us.

So what does everyone out here in cyberspace think of food scratch testing? Has anyone else had food allergy shots, for celiac disease?
