  1. Does any one know why some doctors test IgG response to foods, while others test IgE response? What is the difference? I think they both indicate a food allergy or intolerance, but I am confused as to why one would check one as opposed to the other. There is also the IgA as well, although I was told that this response indicated an immediate allergic...
  2. I am glad to hear that your son is doing better! A very dear friend of mine has a similar story with her second son. She is gluten intolerant, and has been off gluten for over a decade before she had children. Her second son was exclusively breast fed, but after a few weeks, he had severe cramping, crying, not gaining weight, etc. He also had mucous...
  3. I agree with this suggestion. I also had this Metametrix test done, and it was the best money I have ever spent on a test. The information it provides is invaluable in understanding how your body is functioning.
  4. Many, if not most, compounding pharmacists compound natural thyroid hormones on a regular basis, and they would be a great resource to explain how they do it. They can also be a good resource to find a health practitioner who is familiar with prescribing this type of supplement.
  5. I had a bunch of neurological symptoms, many similar to yours: extreme brain fog, confusion, lack of concentration, panic attacks, dizziness, irritability, and extreme fatigue. I also had C and occasional D, but I never got horrible cramps or D after eating gluten as so many others have reported. I am also hypothyroid, and am on thyroid meds, which may...
  6. With Armour or Nature Throid, you cannot adjust the ratio of T4 to T3, however, with a compounded version you can. I use a compound pharmacist who actually creates the hormone pills for me in any ratio my doc orders. It just so happens that I am on the equivalent of one grain of Armour, but that could change if need be. Some doc don't like compounded...
  7. I have the exact same problem. I tried to do the elimination diet a couple of months ago, but I found it extremely difficult to adhere to. I do know that the ELISA blood test is supposed to be accurate, although no blood test is going to be as accurate as the elimination diet.
  8. Oops, sorry Clee123, I accidentally replied to the post below yours from CassP. You have been on thyroid meds for years, and don't need info on that!
  9. I am hypothyroid, and was recently diagnosed with celiac. Regarding thyroid meds, Synthroid is only T4, and most people need a combination T4/T3 drug to feel better. Cytomel is a brand name of one type of T3 drug, which your doc can add in addition to the Synthroid. Synthroid and Cytomel are both synthetic drugs. Most docs just automatically give Synthroid...
  10. I have been gluten free for a few months now, and I have had several times where I have started crying because it just all seems like too much sometimes!! I am half Italian, and eating pasta, crusty italian bread, pizza, etc has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I also used to love to cook, and now it just seems like so much work to make...
  11. Thank you for your post! There is a local pizzeria near me that just started offering a gluten-free/dairy free pizza made with daiya cheese, and I was wondering if it would be any good! I can't have gluten or dairy either. I think I will give it a try.
  12. I can relate to docs who will not listen to you! I am sorry you are having so much trouble. I ended up ordering my own blood tests though an online company. They send you the lab order, then you go to the lab they have contracted with to have your blood drawn. I used MyMedLab.com. You have to pay out-of-pocket, but it was worth it to me just to figure...
  13. First let me say that I struggled with infertility for many years as well, and my heart goes out to you. I ended up doing in vitro twice, and eventually was successful. I was never tested for food allergies through any of my fertility doctors, and it wasn't until several years later that I discovered that I have celiac and other food allergies. I am convinced...
  14. Wow, that is great! I love it when a waiter or restaurant manager goes the extra mile for people with food allergies. I am recently diagnosed with celiac, and I am finding out that some waiters have no idea what gluten is, and others know right away what I am talking about. I have been surprised at how many waiters will say to me, "Oh yeah, my mom, sister...
  15. That is a fantastic article. Thank you for posting. Now I wish I could find a health care professional who actually understands how to test for and treat food sensitivities! I am going to bring this to my next appointment.
  16. Thanks Skylark! I will try eliminating gluten to start and see what happens.
  17. Hi everyone, I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, as well as other food allergies. I am new to this board, and I am thrilled with all of the information and support out there! I suspect that both of my children have issues with food allergies, and one specifically with gluten, and I am not sure which tests to request for them. What is the most...
  18. Hi, I am new to this site as well. I was recently diagnosed with gluten intolerance through a stool analysis. My blood test came back negative, as did my endoscopy. I was told that I do not have "celiac", but I have a strong gluten intolerance. Another doctor told me that there really is not much difference between celiac and gluten intolerance, as both...
