  1. A weak positive is still positive. As far as not noticing anything when eating foods you cut out....celiac disease causes intestinal damage regardless of how you feel. You could still be causing damage even though you feel OK.
  2. Thank you!!!
  3. Funny, my daughter did the same thing with the same book! i knew she was feeling sad about having celiac disease and what it entails. I go to a support group and have lots of internet resources that help me, she has nothing. I ordered the book thinking yay, it will be aimed at kids and she can relate. Nope! It came in the mail and she wanted nothing to do...
  4. My daughter is turning 5 next month. We are planning a Fancy Nancy tea party/spa station day. We have one little boy coming. What is an easy craft he can do while the girls make paper fans? The girls will also be getting nails done, glitter in hair etc, I guess he can get gel in his hair, maybe a tattoo. My other daughter had a hula party last year and...
  5. Celiac disease and the gluten free lifestyle are VERY overwhelming at first. It does get easier though! read lots and ask questions. This forum is a great help!
  6. Is yoplait in the US gluten free??
  7. We are from Canada and heading to Disneyland early July. I have found great information about where to eat, which restaurants and such. I now need help with what products to buy at the store. We plan to shop at walmart, whole foods, henrys, whatever other mainstream store we come across. I would like to eat breakfast and lunch in our hotel, we will only have...
  8. I am confused. Do you think she is getting gluten and showing symptoms of celiac but had a negative blood test?? Here in canada (or at least where I am) anything greater than 7 is a positive (TTG IgA)test.
  9. Some luncheon meats (packaged) are gluten free. (I am in Canada but Buddig's and Grimms are both gluten-free and available in most stores). Corn tortillas....they roll nicely if warmed in microwave for 15 secs or so. Rice is gluten-free. (pilaf is not) Fresh meat, potatoes, veggies and fruit are all gluten-free. Watch dips/salad dressing. No croutons. Eggs...
  10. I would have liked something that was geared to children. Meeting with the diectician in a children's hospital in the pediatric celiac clinic I would have thought she would at least address my daughter and have things to explain celiac/gluten free to her. Props, books, pictures ....something. I found that discouraging. I think adults get a lot of support...
  11. Rice, Ground beef, gluten-free seasoning/spices, rolled up in a corn or gluten-free tortilla
  12. Your dr could have seen damage to the intestianl tract via scope. Sometimes they can only see with a biopsy. I would ask for a report or find out what they saw exactly. But yes, a diagnosis of Celiac Disease can be made without pathology.
  13. Positive is positive. I have never heard of anyone being positive on the blood test and negative on the biopsy. False negatives are more common. I know it is hard, take it one step at a time. This forum is extremely helpful and you will learn lots by reading posts. Good luck!
  14. What do you all use for broth? I can't find any gluten-free broth here.
  15. I completely forgot about this. My daughter has an appointment tomorrow for a regular checkup/cleaning. Should I be concerned about anything they might use? What can I do to limit any gluten exposure? Thanks
  16. My daughter was pretty tired after. It would depend on how much of a walk it is from your house to the station. If you are opposed to parking maybe a cab would be a good idea. I made sure she had a snack right before bed, where usually supper is the alst thing she eats. I also woke my daughter up at the last possible time she could have clear fluids.....
  17. Such awesome advice and support! Thank you! I knew all of you here would get it, most of my friends and family don't.
  18. Thank you for saying this! I do feel like she has had so many "treats" and wonder what the heck I am doing sometimes. But it is true. I don't want her to feel deprived. I do cook and bake. It just seems like more work now...shopping for weird ingredients, making recipes that taste awful etc. Very frustrating. Thanks for all the replies!
  19. My daughter is 4 1/2 and was diagnosed just over a month ago. It has been a whirlwhind of emotions. Some days seem easier than others. Hang in there and good luck! I know how you are feeling!
  20. The hardest part was not feeding her or giving her anything to drink. She only asked for breakfast once though. We told her she was having a tummy test, to see if the gluten was making owies in her tummy. We got to the hospital a few hours early. It was a long wait she played her DSi most of the time. She was called and we went and put on hospital pj...
  21. My daughter told my husband that she "had a dream" (which is how she tells me what she really thinks, there was no dream) that she didn't have celiac disease and could walk into the store and buy whatever she wanted. Then she said she wished she didn't have celiac disease because things without gluten taste different and look different. Breaks my heart ...
  22. 9 days including a weekend for my daughter's.
  23. Yay Canada! I only wish they had less time to change over. 18 months seems like too long. All of those stupid comments really infuriated me tonight. I can't believe people are that ingnorant!!!
  24. It is possible to have a negative blood test and a positive biopsy. Biopsy trumps blood in this case. You have celiac disease.
