  1. I'm not an expert in this celiac stuff yet but here's my 2 cents. I have had weird symptoms for years, but most of mine are muscular and neurological- I have very few digestive issues. My celiac bloodwork was negative. My 15 month old may have celiac so he is gluten-free right now so I figured I would go gluten-free for awhile and see if I notice any difference...
  2. My 15 month old likes Welch's fruit snacks, Enjoy Life cookies, raisins and fruity pebbles. He also likes mandarin oranges or gluten-free fruit cups. Fresh fruit is also a winner for him if we're at home and I can cut it up. He loved the KinniKritters cookies but I had to stop giving them to him because they may contain traces of soy and he may be intolerant...
  3. I requested the results of celiac blood tests I had a few months ago. I thought I had remembered reading posts where people had really low levels for one of the tests so it would be hard to get a positive blood test. I think I remember that right...hope it makes sense!! Anyway- here are my results....is there anything abnormal here? Did they test everything...
  4. Hugs! I'm not diagnosed yet, but have an appointment next week to discuss it. My infant son also may have celiac (just too young to know for sure yet) but is gluten-free for now. When we found out my son may have it I was so overwhelmed. I was sad for him because this could be a lifelong thing. But I remember reading somewhere that although the diagnosis...
  5. I have received an invite to a bachelorette party and wedding for a college friend. The bachelorette party will be hosted by one of my close friends. I'm just not sure how to handle it. I know there will be supper served or going out for the party. This is my first time going to something like this since going gluten-free. I was planning on talking to...
  6. I need ideas for snacks that I can throw into the daiper bag (that don't need to be kept cold) for a 15 month old that are gluten, soy, and milk (lactose) free. I realized that his favorite gluten-free cookies may contain traces of soy. He doesn't chew his food very well so things like some raw fruits and veggies wouldn't really work. He also doesn't digest...
  7. I haven't been in physical therapy for a couple of years. Over the last few years I have been through occupational therapy twice and physical therapy twice.....the 2nd time was 15 months worth. But I do have to say I went from having days where it was painful to walk due to knee issues and I was struggling with my arms feeling too heavy for me to be able...
  8. I'm wondering if I could have celiac or an intolerance. I went through years of muscle pain/weakness/tightness and also developed nerve pain- felt like a sunburn in the muscles around my armpits. No doctor was able to figure out why this was happening. I'm also a musician/music teacher and at the worst of my symptoms it was difficult for me to move my...
  9. Thanks for the reply! So it sounds like it's just a daiper rash or some reaction to the yogurt then.
  10. So it's probably just a daiper rash or some reaction to the yogurt. I have not been diagnosed with celiac or gluten intolerance, although once my son began reacting to wheat/gluten and the doctor mentioned celiac I began researching it and began to wonder if I could have it. I used to get bad stomach cramps as a teen (rare now for me to have one though...
  11. My 15 month old may have celiac. He has 2 copies of DQ8 and when introduced to wheat reacted very badly, although now doesn't react anymore. But he's still gluten-free for now until we decide how we want to figure out if it was a senstivity or celiac. He often gets a daiper rash that I've always thought was a yeast rash but tonight out of curiosity I googled...
  12. Have you been to Spearfish Canyon? That's one of my favorite places.
  13. We go to Rapid every year. This will year be my first while eating gluten-free though. I know they have a Ruby Tuesdays there. I live a few hours from Rapid and the location here has a gluten-free menu and seems pretty good about gluten-free and cross contamination. They also have a Pizza Ranch and that chain has recently added gluten-free pizzas. I...
  14. I've already been through the neurological route. I saw a local neurologist a few times and also the neurology department at Mayo Clinic. Didn't get me anywhere. I've been to neurology, physiatry, rheumatology, orthopedics and never got me anywhere. I guess I could call my neurologist and tell him about the celiac possibility and ask for his thoughts...
  15. Not sure what others have experienced, but I have headaches, muscle pain/weakness in my arms, and burning sensations in my upper body, and dizziness.
  16. I did have the blood tests done already and they were all in the normal ranges.
  17. Good things to think about. The insurance issue is one I've considered. I've done well with sticking to the gluten-free diet so far but am seeing that it's not always easy...like when we head out on vacation or family gatherings. Since I don't have a lot of gastro symptoms I wondered if I'd see a big improvement for awhile or not. So that's why I'm now...
  18. I keep going back and forth about pursuing an endoscopy. My son recently had the genetic testing done and he is DQ8/DQ8. So I have at least a DQ8 gene. Once I discovered that I decided to go gluten-free to see if I noticed any improvements. I had the blood test and it was negative. As a teenager I frequently had bad stomach cramps. The last few years...
  19. You could always bring fresh fruit. If you cut it up at your house then you know it's safe! Watermelon is always good for summer potlucks. Here's a link for a salad I made that a lot of my family loved too...I served it warm but I think it could be served cold also- just make sure your spices are gluten-free. Not sure how your potlucks will be run/set...
  20. I've recently started eating gluten free to see if I notice any improvements. I've dealt with some muscular/neurological symptoms for years that nobody could really figure out. Since he has 2 DQ8 genes then I have at least 1. So I figure I'd try it and see. I was thinking about keeping him gluten-free until he can talk. I'll see what his doctor says...
  21. My 14 month old has been going through a number of tests since he stopped gaining weight for awhile. He is now up to the 10th percentile though! Yay!! When we introduced wheat to him he would have violent vomitting. After just a few times of eating wheat products we noticed the trend and he went gluten-free for a few months. Then we tried it again and...
  22. Testing couldn't hurt. But do know that testing at this age isn't totally accurate. My 14 month old is possible celiac. We're trying to figure out what testing to do and when right now. My son has undigested food in every dirty daiper...mention that to your doctor also. My son is having levels of pancreas enzymes tested. He doesn't digest vegetables...
  23. I completely understand not wanting to spend a lot replacing stuff. Not sure how tight your budget is, but I just went to walmart and bought a few basics. A cooking utensil set that was only a couple dollars (it came with 2 cooking spoons and 2 turners), a cutting board, measuring cup and some ziploc containers for leftovers. Instead of buying the more...
  24. I'm not any help with your question about the DNA results, but your post REALLY interests me. My 14 month old had the DNA test and has 2 copies of the DQ8 gene. When we introduced wheat to him he got really sick. He's been gluten-free most of his life but really isn't growing like the doctor wants. He doesn't look sickly, but just short and smalller than...
