  1. I was on a regular diet prior to the celiac blood panel. After that I went gluten free because I was sick of doctors. But a couple months later decided that since my issues are muscular/neurological I wanted a definate answer in case I didn't see a lot of improvement quickly. So I went on a 3 month gluten challenge- I tried to stick to the 6 slices per...
  2. I do not have celiac, so have not been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease yet. If I understand correctly, gluten sensitivity is not autoimmune. My blood tests were negative...not even borderline, and it was a complete panel. My biopsy was negative- I had numerous samples taken from various locations and had an experienced pathologist reading them. I...
  3. About 3 months ago I was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity (blood and biopsy negative). I've been gluten-free for about 3 months, and I've been strict with it. At first I noticed less headaches, but lately they're kinda back. I've had acne clear up and some improvement in stools- although it was never diarrhea, and sometimes my gums don't feel inflammed...
  4. Just looking for some ideas to possibly help my dad. He's had a number of medical issues lately and I just wonder which of my parents I inherited gluten issues from. Money is a concern due to a layoff. Due to his medical history he will be difficult (if not impossible) to insure if he can't find a job with benefits before his COBRA ends, so pursuing actual...
  5. If your mom was eating very little gluten at the time of testing it could possibly give a false negative on the blood test also.
  6. Thinking back the past couple weeks I did get more headaches when I ate soy I think. Maybe I'll try taking soy out too for awhile and see what happens.
  7. So when I googled inflammed intestine I got some links to Chron's disease. Hmmm....is it possible? I don't have diarrhea, but did often get bad stomach aches as a teen- don't remember how frequent since that was awhile ago but I just wanted to curl up when I got them. Seemed like they may have been more frequent after eating food that was greasy, had dairy...
  8. Just to see which one is an issue for him, or if it's both. We've suspected each at points so just took both lactose and soy out at the same time. I just want to reintroduce each and if it causes an issue then we'll keep it out of his diet.
  9. We put my 21 month old on a lactose and soy free diet, in addition to gluten, and have noticed a big improvement in his daipers. So now we're going to reintroduce milk for a few days and see what happens and later want to reintroduce soy but I'm not sure what's the best food to give him to test that so if there's a reaction we know it's soy and not another...
  10. Not sure if I feel better off gluten or not. My issues are muscular and neurological and have times where they "flare up" and other times where they're not too bad. I've been gluten-free for 2 months and think I need to give it longer to be able to say if my muscle pain/weakness and nerve pain is better. I have noticed I have less headaches now than at...
  11. I was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity by a GI doctor and then sent to rheumatology for follow-up. The rheumatologist said that my GI doc overdiagnoses gluten sensitivity. GI said I had red intestines when I went in for a biopsy, but there was not an infection (my GI was unable to do the procedure so another doctor did). I just got a copy of the lab results...
  12. The chips do say they are gluten-free. I called the french fry company and they said there are not gluten ingredients, but i wonder if they are produed on shared lines. Walmart seems pretty good about saying if a product may contain ingredients and it doesn't say that on the peanut butter so I thought it would be safe. Who knows. I just wish there was...
  13. I'm a couple months into being completely gluten-free. The past week or so I've just felt awful; so tired, headaches and today a canker sore. I've been trying to think of foods I've eaten lately and here are some things I've been eating lately: Orieda french fries Yopliat strawberry/banana yogurt Blueberry greek yogurt- either Chobani or Oikos (can...
  14. I would say you're feeling overwhelmed BECAUSE it's day 1 Eating gluten-free can be a big lifestyle change for some people. I remember being where you are. I almost broke down and cried in the grocery store a couple of times. I never really learned how to cook since we ate a lot of processed foods growing up. Making a meal that doesn't come out of a...
  15. He's had allergy tests done so we know he's not allergic to soy or dairy. Testing would be nice because we've also suspected c.diff. a few times. He had so many ear infections last year and was on numerous courses of antibiotics, so it's possible he had issues with that too.
  16. Over Christmas break I decided to take lactose and soy out of my 21 month old's diet (in addition to gluten). I decided to try this because I think he should be having stools that are a bit firmer than they are. Over the last couple days it looks like there may be some improvements. I'm wondering if there are tests that can be done to test for lactose...
  17. Thanks for the replies! I do have a crockpot, so that's a possibility. My son is going through a picky eating phase lately (seems the terrible twos are beginning) and will not eat chicken, turkey and sometimes beef. Pork/ham is usually good.
  18. This weekend I will be traveling to see my grandparents. I will be in a small town with no options for a gluten-free meal at a restaurant. My grandmother is now in a nursing home and grandpa really doesn't do any cooking so I thought it would be nice for him to have a home-cooked meal. But I'm not sure what to cook....lets just say I'm not a very experienced...
  19. Does the 3 year old like to help with things? Maybe he/she could help with handling the food with gluten in it, or wiping the face of the 1 year old. After meals maybe you could take the 1 year old and wash his hands or get a bath if it's a really messy meal. Another idea could be to buy some disposable gloves to wear during meal time so that you are not...
  20. Also- try experimenting with the time of day you take your prenatal. Taking mine in the evening also helped as opposed to the morning.
  21. I had awful morning sickness for the first 3-4 months of my pregnancy. I was not gluten-free at that point, but crackers never worked for me anyway. What did help was chewing on gum, sucking on hard candy- especially peppermint. A coworker told me that when she was going through chemo her doctor told her to suck on peppermint candy for the nausea, so I...
  22. I'm working on Christmas cookies and am ready to frost them and realized I haven't researched food colorings very well yet. I have McCormick food coloring- just the regular package of red/blue/green/yellow drops to add to the frosting. I know their seasonings are good, so am I safe with the food coloring also? I also have a couple of colors of Wilton that...
  23. I'll try to help some if I can. I was recently diagnosed with gluten sensitivity and we suspect gluten issues with my 20 month old son. I don't have a cookbook yet- i just search online and am able to read reviews to see what has gotten good reviews before I attempt it (I'm just learning to cook now since I used to eat a lot of processed foods). I also...
  24. I have heard of gluten ataxia but thought it just applied to people that struggled with balance. I just stumbled on a couple of internet articles that also suggested gluten ataxia symptoms can include trouble moving muscles. I am a musician and had struggled being able to move my muscles fast enough to play up to the level I knew I was capable of. It wasn...
  25. I was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity about a week ago. I've been mostly gluten-free (still eating a couple bites here and there but only because I have a dermatology appointment coming up to check for DH). But I am craving bread/favorite chocolates (not gluten-free)/cakes. The cravings are awful! I'm not having any luck finding anything to curb these...
