  1. I would say there's a pretty good chance the metal ring was rinsed with one that was used with a gluten-containing blizzard. I used to work at DQ. Cookie dough, cheesecake, and oreo blizzards were the most common ones we made. Our rings were rinsed in a small sink and the rings were often stacked on top of each other. The sink had water constantly running...
  2. I used to work at Dairy Queen. I personally wouldn't eat a blizzard if I had celiac. (I am currently in a gluten challenge so I'm cherishing every blizzard I eat in case it's my last!) I'm definately not trying to discourage people from eating at DQ, but I think blizzards would be risky for someone with celiac. It's very easy for ingredients to get stuck...
  3. I've often had issues with my arms going numb while I am sleeping....I literally can't feel them. Just curious as to whether this is normal or not. I tend to sleep in crazy positions and do tend to sleep on my arms, so when I do that it would make sense that I could just be cutting off the circulation. When that happens and I wake up then I just move my...
  4. I was gluten-free for 7 weeks and then for a few reasons decided to go through celiac testing. I'm 1 month into a gluten challenge right now. The last few days I have had nausea. It doesn't feel like I have the stomach flu though. It feels like morning sickness. I'm not pregnant but feel like I did when I was pregnant with my son. Is this what nausea...
  5. Does he take any medications or vitamins? Since he's been diagnosed awhile ago I'm guessing you've changed toothbrushes since then. Maybe you need to check shampoo, mouthwash, toothpaste, soaps, lotions? Does he play with play-do?
  6. I looked up Angular cheilitis and it sounds like what I'm dealing with. Although I did see it can be caused by bacteria or fungal infection or vitamin deficiencies. When I mentioned it to my husband tonight he said he's dealing with the same thing. So that's odd. Anyone know how to tell whether it's an infection or vitamin deficiencies causing it?
  7. I was gluten-free for 7 weeks (and gluten-light a bit prior to that). I am now about 3 weeks into a gluten challenge. Pretty quickly after beginning to eat gluten I began to get sore spots in the corners of my lips (where the upper and lower lips meet). At first I didn't think much of it but they keep coming back. They are small, red, feel dry and hurts...
  8. I'm in a gluten challenge right now and live within 4 hours of Mayo...I've actually been a patient there a few years ago due to chronic pain that nobody has figured out. I have a biopsy scheduled for 6 weeks from now. I am curious about the research projects though. Do you know what research projects they are doing? If I get a celiac diagnosis I may be...
  9. I am Lutheran but teach in a Catholic school and both have the option for gluten-free wafers. My church had gluten-free wafers for me. A student in my school has celiac and they have gluten-free wafers for her during mass. It works well if you receive communion first every week so that there are not crumbs on the hands of whoever is giving out the bread...
  10. Did he have these poop issues before antibiotics? Just curious because my son was on so many antibiotics due to ear infections and ended up having something called c.diff. You can get that after being on antibiotics because the antibiotics can kill off the good bacteria in your body and the bad bacteria take over is my understanding of it. After a couple...
  11. I'm not eating any peanuts. And I don't drink beer (can't stand the taste!). I did go to a bachelorette party over the weekend and had hard liquor there, but the milk started before then.
  12. I hope this isn't a dumb question, but if it is I appologize in advance! I stopped nursing my son about 5 months ago and after the milk dried up I haven't had any problems. Tonight I noticed a bit of milk leaking and I haven't noticed this for a few months. I'm not pregnant, haven't started any new medications or anything. I was gluten free for 7 weeks...
  13. I'm not very good with the blood test info, but I wonder if they did all the needed tests. Genetic testing could tell you if he is at risk for celiac, and he wouldn't have to be on gluten for that. A couple things to think about though...if he would have celiac would you need any special accommodations for him at school? (like lunches or anything) A diagnosis...
  14. Thanks for the info. I think I'll just continue with the gluten challenge until September and do the biopsy. School will be starting in a couple weeks and it's hard to get away those first few weeks anyway. I've also wondered if it was possible that my body could heal in just 7 weeks if I do have celiac. Seems like a lot of healing in just a fairly short...
  15. I scheduled it for 2 months from now. I can always push it back if I want to. They didn't seem to mind. The doctor said he's had success with a 2 week challenge but if I did that and it came back negative then I would always question it. Since the results of this could possibly affect some future career choices (whether I can work around gluten) I want...
  16. In reading the forums it seems that people say you should eat gluten for 3 months before a biopsy if you have been gluten-free for awhile. Does anyone know of any research that supports that if you have only been gluten-free for 7 weeks? For a few reasons I decided it would be beneficial to look into an official diagnosis so I got a recommendation for a...
  17. My son just started taking Florajen4Kids. It's gluten, soy and dairy free. It does say on the back "may contain trace amounts of digested casein or carbohydrated derived from corn. I don't have to avoid casein so i really don't know much about it to know if there are different types and if this would work for you or not.
  18. He is off dairy, soy and gluten right now. He ate this product a few months ago and reacted to it. I guess I should have clarified that! Since finding out that soy was in a majority of the food he ate I'm going back through the ingredients that were in the food he reacted to because I'm wondering if soy was the culprit and not gluten, or maybe both.
  19. So today I discovered that the mixed tocopherols in my son's babyfood was made from soy. This has led me to wonder if he has gluten issues after all...many of the foods he reacted to also contained this ingredient (and also contained wheat/gluten). He has loose stools and a rash when on soy and dairy, but when off of those he doesn't. He has had a couple...
  20. Wow...your post just made this big light bulb go off!!!! My son had severe vomitting after eating Gerber baby rice cereal...there are no gluten ingredients and when I contacted the company they said the rice cereal is processed on lines that could process gluten foods but they are cleaned well. So I figured it was just contaminated. But I remembered the...
  21. Do you notice this reaction with all gluten-free Chex cereals or just the rice one? I feed my 1 year old the gluten-free Corn Chex cereal every morning.
  22. One other question...what would you recommend for a high chair?? Should I see if I could keep a high chair there for him that only he uses? He has a regular high chair and little one that sits on a regular chair- we got them both at rummage sales but have scrubbed them down really well before he used them. Do you think there could be cross-contamination...
  23. My 1 year old will be beginning a new daycare in a couple of weeks. I'm a teacher so he's been home with me all summer and his previous daycare had another child with celiac there and that family was diagnosed before we began there and the staff was pretty educated already. We switched him because he kept getting so sick and so we're going from a center...
  24. Does Gabe like to be able to choose things he eats? Maybe you could get a couple different types of breads and let him pick which he likes better. I teach and sometimes if I let the kids choose (between 2 options that are ok with me) then I have better luck in getting them to do what I need them to do. Maybe he could help prepare parts of his meal too...
