  1. There are so many positives! I'm eating fresher, healthier foods. I don't have the guilt that came with eating fast food or pre-packaged food. I finally have the energy to exercise so I'm losing some weight and feeling better overall. The constant headaches that I used to get have stopped so I'm no longer taking medication for them. My skin is softer...
  2. Does anybody have a good banana bread recipe that you're willing to share?
  3. Thank you mushroom. This board has been incredibly informative and helpful.
  4. Can both celiac and gluten intolerance result in deficiencies? Since I don't know whether I have celiac or intolerance, which vitamins should I have checked? Is there anything else I should get checked? Thanks in advance.
  5. rice cake pizzas corn tortilla shell pizzas smoothies with fruit and yogurt (add skim milk powder for extra protein if you think it's needed) Chapman's icecream make your own tossed salad Chex cereal vegetables with dip fruit salad
  6. I used a bowl that is dishwasher/microwave safe, was just cleaned, and I haven't had issues with these bowls before. It was a microwave brownie where you just add oil and water to the mix, stir, and microwave for 60 seconds (yummy!) If it was the restaurant, they must have grilled the chicken on a common grill or something. The chef and the chain and...
  7. I called the Disney Cruise line to ask the same questions and got an excellent response. I started out by mentioning that we have Celiac Disease and the employee immediately knew that meant "no gluten, right?". Perhaps you can call back and get a different person who will assist you?
  8. Hmmm...if I were to consider the timing, then it must have been the restaurant. Both the chips and the restaurant dinner were consumed four hours prior to the pain. I'll have to remember that if/when I get glutened again. Yes, it must have been the restaurant. Nothing with gluten has entered my cupboards since I wiped them down and the brownie mix was...
  9. Thanks for your reply mushroom. I guess I was really hoping it wouldn't be the restaurant since I had taken such care in advance and they were so sure everything was gluten-free. It would be wonderful to be able to go out to eat once in a while. I've only been doing this for 6 weeks though, so I won't get discouraged.
  10. I've been glutened twice this week and my reaction has been terrible pain and bloating. I used to have reactions like this once or twice a month prior to going gluten-free not realizing that it was gluten related. I just thought that was the way I was. So, to have it happen twice in one week after being pain free for almost two months has been very unpleasant...
  11. Yes, I thought that it was strange that the blood panel results mentioned DH. Perhaps DH means something else on the blood panel? So strange. The endoscope will show more I suppose.
  12. Does a DH diagnosis mean that you have Celiac? A family member had a blood panel done after I was diagnosed and the blood panel results say that "DH cannot be ruled out". They are going to have an endoscopy. Can DH be detected through a blood panel?
  13. I'm wondering what kind of financial assistance might be available to Canadians who have celiac. I've heard about keeping track of grocery receipts for income tax purposes, but is there any other form of financial assistance available? Someone told me about a one-time "grant" that they got???
  14. Does anybody know if there is a connection between celiac and egg allergy? Is there an explanation as to why someone could eat eggs cooked one way, but not another way?
  15. Since finding out that I have celiac, a family member has been wondering if a rash on her scalp is DH (blood test negative for celiac). I have a few questions: 1. Is it possible that DH presents only in one area of the body (scalp) but nowhere else? 2. Can DH come and go? 3. If someone suspects DH, what steps should they take to get a diagnosis...
  16. Why is it that Celiac can cause some people to have C and others to have D? Many members of my family are being tested and are asking why it is that the same condition can cause such different gut reactions. Does anybody know why or how this happens? Thanks.
  17. Has anybody had an issue with movie theatre popcorn? Is there potential for glutening?
  18. GLIADIN Ab IgA Value 3 Ref. Range >20->20 GLIADIN Ab IgG Value 9 Ref. Range >20->20 tTRANSGLUTAMINASE IgA Value 13 Ref. Range >20->20 Thank you in advance to anyone who can help interpret these results. This is the only information I have.
  19. Is it possible that CC could occur from an outdoor BBQ that hasn't been used in months?
  20. I just phoned the cruise line and they were totally aware of celiac disease. Right away she said "that means gluten-free right?" and she put it into their computer system. She said that the head server will visit our table each time we sit down to eat and if we choose to eat from the buffet, the chef will answer any questions we have about the items. It...
  21. I'm so glad to hear that you had a good gluten-free time in WDW. We've been a couple of times (pre-diagnosis) and it's a relief to hear such positive stories! Have either of you been on a Disney cruise? I assume their standards will be the same, but I haven't heard a first hand account yet.
  22. That sounds a lot like my daughter as a toddler - especially the belly. It would pop out in front of her, but also to the sides. Now that she has been diagnosed and is on the diet, her belly is gone. Somebody on here will be able to tell you the exact tests to ask for. I hope you get some answers.
  23. Are there any concerns if someone goes gluten-free while taking anti-depressants? How does going gluten-free affect the way anti-depressants work in the body?
  24. OK, so my daughter has celiac and was diagnosed through biopsy about a month ago. I chose to start the diet with her two weeks ago after my TTG came back "borderline" and was told I didn't need any more testing. So, I guess I'm self-diagnosed, but don't know if I have celiac or if it's intolerance. Either way, I've decided to remain gluten-free because...
  25. I think that Ontario is the only province that makes citizens pay for the blood test if you get it done at a lab. If it's done in a hospital, it's free. The other provinces cover the bloodwork no matter where you get it done. Apparently there is a group lobbying the Ontario government to change this situation.
