ARCHIVED Relapsing/ Remitting Celiac?
anna34 replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, our GI told us that teens and young adults often get a "honeymoon period" where the awful symptoms subside, but the damage is still happening to the intestine. Then, people hit their twenties and it all comes back, sometimes with stronger symptoms than before. -
ARCHIVED Which Tests Should Husband Get?
anna34 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My thanks to everyone on this board. You have been so helpful to me as I learn about this disease. Our daughter was diagnosed through biopsy a month ago. My TTG was borderline so I began the diet with her. Both of us are seeing our symptoms resolve. My husband's TTG was negative, but we were told by a G.I. that he should be re-tested in the... -
ARCHIVED Confused - Long (My Apologies In Advance)
anna34 replied to Momof2xy&2xx's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've only been doing this for one month, so I'm by no means an expert, but this is what the hospital told us to do: Eliminate wheat, barley, rye, and triticale from the diet. Any products that are made using these ingredients need to be eliminated. We were told to check the following for "hidden gluten": bouillon, candy, drink mixes, flavourings, gravy... -
ARCHIVED Confused - Long (My Apologies In Advance)
anna34 replied to Momof2xy&2xx's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Much of your story resembles what I went through with my daughter. She was born at 34 weeks, NICU stay, reflux, always wanting to nurse (every 1-2 hours for 6 months - exhausting). While she was never labelled "failure to thrive" she did go through periods where she dropped off the growth chart and the doctor was concerned. She had low iron despite supplementation... -
We were in the exact same position with our 5 year old about one month ago! She was nervous too because she remembered having other tests done at the hospital for which she was awake. We stressed that she would be asleep for the whole thing and we didn't describe the procedure to her. No IV was needed. (We were told that it depends on how comfortable...

ARCHIVED Celiac Or Gluten Sensitivity?
anna34 replied to anna34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. Mushroom: My husband tested a clear negative for celiac, and my grandmother has celiac - so I do figure I'm the one passing on the gene. I seem to be feeling better gluten-free, so I'll just stick with it and eat the same foods as my daughter. Question: Our two year old son also tested negative. Should... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Gluten Sensitivity?
anna34 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had my blood tested after my daughter was diagnosed through biopsy about a month ago. She has been gluten-free for a month and her symptoms are resolving - it's amazing how much energy she has now! My TTG came back at 7.7 and I was told that anything under 5 is considered "normal". I was told that 5-8 is considered "intermediate" and that further testing... -
ARCHIVED Nutrition Student With Questions For The Gluten Free World
anna34 replied to malfnutstudent's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago, so I'm right in the thick of what you're interested in exploring. Things that would be useful: - a current list of everyday products/brands that are gluten-free, but aren't labelled as such (sauces, salad dressings, candies...) - basically, a list of regular brands that are gluten-free so that you don't have... -
ARCHIVED Tooth Enamel Question
anna34 replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter has always had poor tooth enamel and now we know it was likely caused by Celiac. There is a special coating that the dentist can put on the teeth to protect them. It's on her baby teeth right now. When her baby teeth fall out and the adult teeth begin to erupt we have been to get her in right away so they can start coating them to prevent further... -
My daughter has Celiac Disease and my son's TTG recently came back negative, but I plan to have him tested again when he's older (he's only 2 now). My question is about dairy. He has always had excema, a big belly, and is sick with colds and runny nose almost all the time. He has had ear infections every 2-3 weeks since birth. Somebody told me that...

ARCHIVED Got My Results Today
anna34 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just found out that my TTG is 7.7 I was told that Normal is less than 5 I was told that Intermediate is 5-8 Anything over 8 is considered High and they would biopsy. I was also told that my IGA was not deficient. My daughter has celiac disease. Does anybody know what all this means? -
ARCHIVED "official" Diagnosis
anna34 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We're waiting for blood test results for ourselves and our daughter has been diagnosed with celiac disease. What are the benefits of being "officially" diagnosed through the biopsy? I mean, if our blood results have high Ttg numbers, that means we are reacting to gluten to some degree, so the diet will help - right? Are there any advantages to being... -
ARCHIVED Genetics?
anna34 replied to anna34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you. Our son is also being tested. We find out in a week. -
Our daughter has celiac disease and my husband and I are both getting tested. Since she has celiac disease, does that mean that at least one of us will have it?

Does anybody have a decent recipe for bread that can be made in a breadmaker? My 5 year old has just been diagnosed with Celiac and bread would just make life a little easier while we adjust.

ARCHIVED What's The Deal With M&Ms (In Canada)?
anna34 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are M&Ms safe in Canada? -
We're waiting for my son's blood results after our daughter was diagnosed with Celiac earlier this week through biopsy. Our son has always had what looks like excema (torso, buttocks, thighs) that comes and goes, but does not seem to be itchy to him (he's only 2). I'm thinking he may have Celiac because: 1. his sister has it, 2. he's very pale, 3. he...

My daughter was just diagnosed this week (she's 5) and she is experiencing the same feelings, so I can empathize with your posts. She asked me this week, if she gets her blood taken again will she not have celiac anymore. Broke my heart to realize that she didn't understand that this is a forever thing. I spend my days frustrated and trying to figure out...

ARCHIVED Does Tylenol For Kids Contain Gluten?
anna34 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just thinking about common medications for kids (Tylenol, Advil, antibiotics...). Does anybody know if these brands have gluten in them (in Canada). What about antibiotics? Should I be telling our pharmacist about our daughter's diagnosis? -
ARCHIVED Should I Buy A Breadmaker?
anna34 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was just diagnosed with Celiac. Will it be useful to have a breadmaker in the house? I've heard that fresh bread is better than the frozen stuff. What do you think? -

ARCHIVED How Do I Start This Process?
anna34 replied to anna34's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for all of the wonderful feedback! I'm going to tour my grocery stores and local shops that carry gluten-free items and compare costs. I like the idea of sticking to foods that she can still eat since she really likes salad, vegetables, fruits, rice, tacos, meat, and diary. I'll get her some soya sauce and salad dressing that is gluten-free.... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Start This Process?
anna34 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has just been diagnosed through biopsy. How do I start getting her gluten-free? She's 5 and loves pancakes, waffles, cereal, bread, and other treats. She also loves veggies, fruit, and rice, so that's a good thing. I guess what I'm asking is, how do you begin? Do you start by substituting the obvious sources (breads, pastas, etc...) with... -
