ARCHIVED Need Advice! Duodenal Iels, Blepharospasm, Folliculitis....
Darwin replied to livelaughlove3885's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My mother-in-law has fructose malabsorption, which caused a lot of problems for her. She can't eat fruit, HFCS, onion, tomatoes, and many other foods containing high amounts of fructose. Something to consider.....or the more severe fructose intolerance. I read that sugary things bother you. Could be a possibility. I am going through a lot of similar...- 6 replies

Actually started taking prilosec (suggestion by my doctor) and the pain has mostly gone away. I am going to say that it was likely an issue with the damage from the gluten being highly effected by degestive acids.....not sure, though. The pain does pop up here and there, but I feel a lot better! I am going to eventually look into the possibility of more...

Has anyone else experienced this? Just curious.... I had accidentally eaten gluten several times over the Christmas holiday, mostly cross-contamination issues at the in-laws' house, but also got a little complacent. Anyway, I had a weird burning sensation above and to the right of my belly button for 3 months or longer. Because it started with the gluten...

Well, it is starting to go away......and so is my bodily inflammation. I am starting to be able to see my collar bone and my clothes are starting to fit a little better......I am assuming it actually is Celiac as opposed to just an intolerance (though I personally think that since the symptoms are very similar between the two and because Celiac can be so...

First, a little bit of backstory. I am a self-diagnosed gluten intolerant. My nurse practitioner did not see the point in testing for Celiac if I was planning on doing a gluten challenge anyway, so when I did it, it was obvious that the gluten was causing a problem. I have been off of gluten for a little over a year, with some oopsies along the way. I...

There are also apps with restaurant menus to eat gluten-free out. "Is that gluten free" has an eating out version. Expensive, but very worth it.

ARCHIVED Help Healing After Accidental Glutening
Darwin replied to Darwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And....it is the rice chex, ate breakfast, tummy pain again. They used to have a blanket statement about all allergens possible and did not contain anything in the ingredients list, but they must have changed their supplier. It now says that it may contain traces of wheat....I am thinking shared equipment. Awesome. Well, I guess my fiance will be given... -
ARCHIVED Help Healing After Accidental Glutening
Darwin replied to Darwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I have figured out that I am eating something that is continually bothering me. I was fine all weekend and it is coming back a little bit today. Now I need to figure it out. I am wondering if Walmart has reformulated their generic rice chex. I checked the ingredients when I first started buying it and it has never bothered me before. They are famous... -
ARCHIVED Help Healing After Accidental Glutening
Darwin replied to Darwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I totally understand. I have social engagements with my fiance 4 times in the next week that involve eating outside of my little bubble. I do have staples that I order all of the time that never make me sick, so hopefully, I will be fine. Let's both hope that we start to get better. I am generally really good about not making mistakes, so I am crossing... -
ARCHIVED Help Healing After Accidental Glutening
Darwin posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just wanted to see if any of you have any suggestions. I had (I think) several accidental glutening situations over the holidays. I made some stupid mistakes while driving home for Christmas and ate some salt and vinegar chips that had malt vinegar on them. Didn't think to look at the bag, as most of the company's chips are gluten free, until I had eaten... -
ARCHIVED Family Sometimes Makes Me Feel Bad...
Darwin replied to gfpirate's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know exactly how you feel. People who can eat gluten sometimes do not understand how we may feel and that they are hurting our feelings. My brothers and father can sometimes be hurtful, but they are all coming around slowly thanks to the wonderful support of my mother and the tiny lectures she gives them all. We all think that my youngest brother has... -
ARCHIVED Uses For Bob's Red Mill gluten-free All-Purpose Flour
Darwin replied to Darwin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks!!! I will look into all of those things. I also have the Babycakes cookbook. I forgot that many of her recipes a use this flour. I was not impressed with the cookies, but I will take the advice of using recipes with a lot of ingredients to hide the taste. I am hoping to use all of this flour up so I am done and over with it.....now that I have... -
ARCHIVED Ugh! People Just. Don't. Get. It.

Suzanna, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time right now. If your friends can't be supportive, just know that all of us can be a large support network. I haven't been doing this for long (1 year), but it does get easier, friends who want to listen and understand will, family members learn to adjust. Make sure to get the help that you need, but... -
ARCHIVED Uses For Bob's Red Mill gluten-free All-Purpose Flour
Darwin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a bag or two of Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Flour. I am one of those people who can immediately pick out the bean flavor when I use it in baked goods, but I originally bought a bunch of it because it was on sale. Too bad, because the texture it produces is really nice. Does anybody have any recipes where they can stand the taste of the flour? I... -
Had one on Saturday!!! Thought it tasted like Udi's. It was so exciting to go to a restaurant and eat a hamburger on a BUN!! Now if they could only cook their french fries in gluten-free oil, I'd be in heaven!!

Thanks!!! That is good to know. There shouldn't be anything stuck in it as I only used it twice and was very careful with cleaning it. One of the attachments were never even used, which is good. I wrote to Kitchenaid and they apparently thought gluten was some kind of bacteria......in other words, they had no clue. Well, I will try it. Thanks!!

ARCHIVED I Don't Know What I Like To Eat, Anymore.
Darwin replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You just need to experiment and see what is out there. Because the gluten free diet has become "trendy" (I don't know why people think it will automatically make them lose weight), it has been really great for all of us who have to eat this way. Some gluten-free foods taste like cardboard and some are really great. I saw that you like to eat pizza. Have... -
I have a question for everyone.....I bought the KitchenAide pasta attachments (roller type) about 6 months before finding out that I was gluten intolerant. I used them twice. If anyone has ever bought them, they are REALLY expensive. Does anybody have any suggestions for cleaning them to make them safe? They cannot by submerged in water. I was thinking...

ARCHIVED What To Make In A Pinch?
Darwin replied to Darwin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for all of your suggestions! I would like to get a pressure cooker one day, though money is not a problem....at least considering kitchen gadgets ....I don't have any more room for any more kitchen gadgets. Maybe when I move this summer I can find a place with a larger kitchen so I may buy more neat kitchen stuff! My crockpot will have to do for... -
ARCHIVED Supplements To Aid Digestive Healing
Darwin replied to Darwin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I started probiotics and digestive enzymes on Thursday and my distention and bloating has gone down significantly along with the gas. I am not feeling like my organs are being squished my my abdomen any more!! This very exciting. I was starting to think that I was going to have to eliminate more foods, though I might... -
I am considering cutting back on my corn and (possibly) potato intake to see if these are things that are also bothering my system and to lose some weight. Before figuring out my gluten sensitivity, I kept just a few box-mixy kind of things around for quick meals. Now, I keep instant grits and baking potatoes around for when I am too lazy to cook or do...

ARCHIVED I Miss Beer
Darwin replied to mcc0523's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I too was a beer snob and miss it greatly. I am starting to drink wine again, but it does not compare to a glass of Guiness or Samual Smith's Oatmeal Stout. My brother brews the most amazing beers and I couldn't have them over Christmas and that makes me sad. Redbridge is okay, but just like a lot of the gluten free frozen pizzas, it is just okay, not... -
ARCHIVED Symptomatically Diagnosed Today
Darwin replied to mcbeez's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't imagine going back to gluten now, so that must have been horrible. I'm glad you are back on the right track. I am not fully vegetarian, but do not eat a lot of meat, so I eat vegetarian often. For convenience foods, I have seen a lot of stuff in the freezer section of Whole Foods or local natural foods stores (I live in a small town, so the little... -
ARCHIVED Supplements To Aid Digestive Healing
Darwin replied to Darwin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you so much, everyone. I will definitely try some supplementation and see what happens. I am one of the people who gained some weight, so the bloating and distention does not help. -
ARCHIVED Supplements To Aid Digestive Healing
Darwin posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I figured out in October of 2010 that I have gluten sensitivity (did not pursue diagnosis, NP felt it was not necessary). I felt dynamite very quickly and for a few months. I have accidentally "challenged" that discovery a few times in the beginning and have not been happy with the results. Anyway, I have had a few cross-contamination issues due to eating...
