ARCHIVED "official" Diagnosis
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to anna34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with this my son was recently diagnosed and we were told because his levels were really high he most likely had celiac but the scope would confirm it. As the pediatrician suggested this is a life long thing so make sure. The fact that we needed complete comfirmation so we could claim the added expense for his food was a factor too. I also have... -

LOL Thanks, I actually understood your post but I was confused by Lisas reply to my post I think being on here when I am dead tired could be a factor in this case. lol I didn't read anything into her comment I just didn't understand anything in her comment! LOL Mommy brain and lack of sleep I guess. -
ARCHIVED Knowledgable Gi Doctor In Mississauga, Ontario Area?
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to Jennywenny's topic in Doctors
Sorry, not much help. My son went to a pediatric GI in Toronto Dr. Kovac and she was awesome. When my husband had his colonoscopy at the Barrie Endoscopy clinic, the docotor was very knowledgable, I thought. If our blood work comes back positive we will be going there for a scope. I don't have the paperwork near me so I don't know what his name is off hand... -

Aha Buffy the vampire slayer! lol Haven't seen that it a LONG time. lol I have to confess I haven't read the books, been reading Percy Jackson and the olympians with my son. I took my niece to see Twilight and thought it was o.k. but when I saw the second one I was hooked I loved it. Bought the third one for three of my nieces to insure I could watch... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Had To Deal With Alcoholism?
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to Dixiebell's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So are you saying because he drank for so many years he could have the testing done for celiac and have a false positive? When you say advanced testing what does that intail? My brother only had a skin biopsy because he has DH. My son had a blood test and they tested three different antibodies his results were 80's/90's/ and over 100. Then he had a scope... -

hockeymomofceliacchild replied to Dixiebell's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Very interesting, my dad is an alcholic or should I say recovering alcholic I never dreamed he could do it. my brother and my son both have celiac and I think my dad is contemplating getting checked too he says he has always had similar issues as my son when he was younger. We are all getting checked it would be interesting if my mom or dad have it. -
ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine? What Is The Connection
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to hockeymomofceliacchild's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm glad this made your day As a mom just learning all about allergys such as this every little tiny bit of information no matter how insignificant you may think it is, is like a huge "WOW" glad I learned that. I instantly phoned my mom in my excitement to tell her what I learned and was so happy I could possibly shorten the length of time my son would have... -
ARCHIVED Testing My Son?
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to applegirl03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have to have him tested. If it comes back negative then fine, it will rule it out and you can look for another reason for it. My son is six years old and I insisted he be tested, my doctor said the rash was just echema and highly unlikely to be celiac due to the fact that he didn't show signs of gastral issues. If my brother didnt have it I would probably... -
ARCHIVED It's Official, Gluten Must Be Labelled!
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Again Peter this is good to know I was told that anything that said spices was potentially not safe. I've been researching specific brands to find out if they are gluten free. Knowing this makes things much more simple. -
ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine? What Is The Connection
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to hockeymomofceliacchild's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
This is really interesting. With going gluten free we have been searching for foods he could eat and seem to be doing the nachos and cheese thing a lot, popcorn you name it, so had my brother. lol Not realizing the salt was flaring their dh. Interesting about the milk here in Canada. I took my whole familiy of regular milk about two years ago. It costs... -

ARCHIVED Is There A Food You Miss So Much That It's Worth The Consequences?
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cheating is a personal choice those with serious and very uncomfortable symptoms probably wouldn't even dream of it. My brother was diagnosed about 10 years ago he wouldn't dream of cheating his DH (skin rash) kicks in. My son was just diagnosed and I hope to get him gluten free as soon as I can (need to learn where all it is hiding first). As for myself... -

ARCHIVED Boston Pizza's New Gluten Free Menu Items
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to Kemmanuel's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for posting this I'm desperately searching for restaurants that are here in Ont. I had heard that boston pizza had gluten free and I knew you had to let them know it was due to celiac but I guess I would have thought the toppings they would offer would have been gluten free too. And we would have ordered the meat as my son only likes meat on his pizza... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Eating In Ontario?
hockeymomofceliacchild posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My son was recently diagnosed with celiac. We have been going gluten free at home but we are a family who eats out alot and especially when we are away at the arena for hockey games. But we have been avoiding eating out because it is too overwhelming just yet. But we are heading to Hamilton for a hockey tournament during March break and I'm a little nervous... -
ARCHIVED Does Dh Have To Be Itchy?
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to anna34's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My son too was just diagnosed with celiac he has a rash all over himself I assume he has DH like his uncle. He is six years old and I have been doing A LOT of research and love this site. He was told at the dermitoligist that his rash was from echema even though he has celiac because his rash was not in all the "typical" areas. (note today I noticed... -
ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine? What Is The Connection
hockeymomofceliacchild posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I keep reading discussions about iodine and DH I am not sure of the connection between the two. My son has celiac and a rash (assuming Dh as uncle has it too) but should I eliminate iodine too? and why? Thanks for the help we are so new to this and so much to learn I love this site and all the questions and responces not enough time in the day to read them... -
ARCHIVED It Takes So Very Little...argh!
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to running-girl's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm glad you posted this my son is only gluten free for three weeks and his rash is getting worse instead of better. But we did the gluten overload before his tests. Does it take a while before it all gets out of his system? I didn't realize how sensitive DH was and how little it takes to flare it up, so I guess because we are just learning it will take us... -
ARCHIVED Where Are The Key Spots That Dh Appear? Are They The Same As Echema?
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to hockeymomofceliacchild's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have to add- I was watching my son get undressed for hockey and what should I see but a rash on his lower back and shoulder blades....do you think the doctor will still think it is just echema? lol -
ARCHIVED Where Are The Key Spots That Dh Appear? Are They The Same As Echema?
hockeymomofceliacchild replied to hockeymomofceliacchild's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thank you everyone for your response, I am glad I followed my instinct and had him tested I told my husband it would be the only time I wanted to be wrong about something! lol I had a feeling there would be other people out there with Non-typical areas with DH. We will still treat his areas like echema just in case but I will not be having a follow... -
ARCHIVED Where Are The Key Spots That Dh Appear? Are They The Same As Echema?
hockeymomofceliacchild posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My six year old son has recentely been diagnosed with celiac. We kept thinking his rash was from other things over the year but I had an A-ha moment and insisted he be tested. My doctor was quite certain it was echema because he had no gastral issues to go along with the ichy rash. (later realizing bulky stools is a sign and many other symptoms that go along...
