  1. Hi, it's wonderful that you've started seeing improvement. I've heard that you will start seeing results between 2 - 4 months, but like mentioned above it's going to take a lot longer for your body to build up it's vitamin and mineral stores again and for your body to heal and work effectively. It'll be worth it! All the best!

    ARCHIVED Sad

Thanks ladies! I struggled to get up this morning and was miserable all the way through my puffed rice cereal. But on the way to work decided to put a brave face on and celebrate and be thankful for the good things that are happening because I've cut out gluten. So I'll start celebrating soon... maybe after a glass of wine or two Seriously...

    ARCHIVED Sad

I've never struggled to control my emotions, love people, love being busy and am generally easy going. But since being gluten free 3 weeks now, I've just been sad. I've had 3 or 4 public tears, well meltdowns actually. Just feeling like I can't anymore, emotionally. My symptoms have subsided since being gluten free, which makes my body happier, but...
  4. Hi, welcome to the forum! You'll definitely get all the help you need here - I've only been gluten free two weeks now and have read the forum almost daily to help me along the way. I don't want to repeat everything they've said, as I'm sure you have plenty to get you started. Keep asking questions, use google and chat to friends. I've been surprised...
  5. I wanted to shout for joy this morning while cooking eggs for my husband and a young boy who is staying with us while he gets back on his feet. I kept exclaiming outloud how great I felt! It has been weeks since I've had enough energy to do anything other than chuck some yoghurt and muesli into a bowl at 6am. This morning, I picked rocket in the garden...
  6. It only itches if I irritate it, else I'm not aware its there. It's not as flared up as what is was, but I haven't changed anything, so don't know what caused it or what made it 'smaller/flatter'. Thanks!
  7. I've never had skin disorders or anything like this in my last 29 years, but since around day three of my Gluten Free diet, I got a red lumpy bumps on my elbow. Not dots, literally raised parts of skin. Every person that I've asked thinks it must be eczema. It's quite honestly 'freaking me out', as I think it looks ugly, so hoping this has happened...
  8. Hi Teri, I don't know how long it'll take before you start absorbing it, but I do hope for your sake it won't take too long. Bananas are high in sugar, as mentioned earlier. Why don't you try some of the following: Foods, which are rich sources of potassium include turnips, whole grains, molasses, fish, citrus fruit, apple cider vinegar, avocados...
  9. Your story sounds like mine. For the past year, I've had that brain fog (where you can't seem to string a sensible sentence together), tiredness (even though I'd sleep 8 hours) and bone and joint pain. My fingers would hurt the most and I'd just 'feel bruised'. I also had very sore eyes and my hair was falling out. The doctors just kept checking...
  10. Sorry that you are feeling overwhelmed! I have only been gluten free for 2 weeks now. My first three days were horrible, I had incredible pain and have not slept well. We also lead a very busy social life, and I've felt silly having to ask people what they are cooking, so that I can take my own food along if necessary. But besides all that, I...
  11. Wow, looks like we all have the same kind of problem. Just under two weeks gluten free, and suddenly awake around 2 or 3am, can't lie on one side for more than a few moments. Strange thing though, I'm not as tired as what I would have been if still eating gluten products and only had four hours sleep. So, besides that the tossing and turning wakes my...
  12. I've been gluten free for 10 days now, and I've not slept a full 7 hours since about day two of the diet. When my husband realizes I'm awake, normally around 2 or 3pm that I start tossing and turning, he puts his arm around me and says; "come let me help you". He thinks it'll calm me to be held, but I can't lie still for longer than a few moments. It's the...
  13. Aaah Rachel, so sorry that you are having to go through this! Trusting for God's comfort and grace! Lots of love and hugs and sincerest prayers for God's beauty and glory to shine through in a time that is painful.
  14. Thank you - I'll be visiting one of our bigger health shops soon, I've made my list as per all your replies and have no doubt that I'll find what I need.
  15. wow - boerewors and biltong! That's impressive! I hope it comes out well and that you inspire loads of people around you! I personally love the stuff - definitely one of my favourite things in SA. I've eaten gluten free rusks, but they were very hard and very sweet. Will let you know if I ever find a nice one. Good luck and enjoy!
  16. Thanks for your mail. Jip I'm eating Iron rich food as much as I can stomach it. Wasn't a fan of liver or spinach before, but am now including them in my diet along with the other top 50 iron rich foods - I have a list in my kitchen I can't remember about my thyroid,it was 3.6 or 3.9 when I last had it checked, the first time they put me on iron supplements...
  17. Hi, thanks to all your advice, I now know to take Vit B12 and Magnesium to help with my tingling and numbness in my hands and with the fact that I'm struggling to sleep since being on a gluten free diet. Just a question though. How much of the vitamins and minerals should I be taking? I read a bunch of lables on the back of vitamin containers in...
  18. Is Vit D3 easy to find, I was in my chemist today. And didn't see much Vit D supplements.
  19. Thanks for the reply, appreciate the help! I've not been given a complete Celiac panel. They were doing all sorts of tests on me, and focusing on just giving me iron drips for now and then going to neck and eye specialists for the worst of my symptoms. They did check my thyroid and the doctor replied saying it just fits into the okay range. They haven...
  20. Hi there, the doctors didn't know why I was not absorbing iron, and the last three years have been a real pain. Literally. My doctor doesn't think though that my symptoms are from the low iron related and wants me to go see a bunch of other specialist, which I don't want to have to do. My worst symptoms are: Numb/dead fingers in the mornings...
  21. Hi, I grew up with a gran who was celiac, and remember her mainly just eating mielie bread and rice cakes. But recently I was diagnosed to, so have had to change my lifestyle. I really didn't find it hard at all though. Just in the church I was at, I knew of 3 other people who were either gluten intolerant or had celiac. And we have fantastic healthshops...
