  1. Hi all Just wanted to say thanks for being here! I have gotten so much support from this forum. Everyone who has responded to my posts, and also just reading everybody's posts lets me know I'm not alone in all this CRAZINESS! I was happy in some ways to be diagnosed with celiac because at least now I know what's wrong with me. And it's not a fatal...
  2. I have tried the l glutamine powder too it seems to help. Also, resting. Ginger pills. And/or Immodium. Sorry people are such jerks.
  3. I just wanted to warn anyone who orders cider, it does not look like beer! I went to a restaurant (BJs) and ordered the gluten free cider, and the waitress asked me if I have an allergy, I said yes I have celiac disease I cannot have any gluten. She made a note of it on her pad and said they take it seriously. Great! And then she brought me a f***ing beer...
  4. I know I posted about this before but it's driving me crazy! Every once in a while this mysterious pain in my forearm/wrist flares up and I don't know what's causing it. Did I get glutened? Is this neuropathy? Is it rheumatoid arthritis? It's hard to describe the feeling. It's almost like it's my skin that hurts, an aggravating, burning achey sensation, like...
  5. I'm a vegan and I have celiac disease. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies, potatoes, tofu, beans, quinoa (a grain that is a complete protein -- it's good with peas and onions like a pilaf), rice and rice noodles. I drink smoothies and add supplements like rice protein powder, nutritional yeast (for B vitamins), Udo's Oil (for omegas) and spinach (for iron...
  6. Thanks everybody, it feels good to know I'm not alone. And I needed to hear all the reminders of what I should be doing. I'm so thankful for this forum and for the support I always find here.
  7. Hi I haven't posted in a while, I guess I just need to vent. I'm so depressed because I keep getting sick. It's been about a year that I've been gluten free. I'm really careful, and I was doing pretty good for a while, but lately I've been getting sick every couple weeks. Maybe I'm getting even more sensitive to cc? Or am I even getting glutened at all? Maybe...
  8. I hate that too. I actually had a woman tell me that I was very young to have celiac disease, because her friend who was recently diagnosed is much older than me. I told her it doesn't have anything to do with age, and she said oh yes, it's usually older people who have it. Whatever! (She was otherwise a very nice person.) I don't get why people think they...
  9. I get that it's a comedy, but I still find it offensive. I submitted a complaint as well.
  10. Those cupcakes look good, thanks for the link! I also love the idea of dipping stuff in chocolate and putting sprinkles on top, the kids could even help me do the sprinkles, thanks!
  11. I've got a couple potlucks coming up where I have to come up with something to feed little ones. I was going to make peanut butter blondies (with gluten free flour of course) but the preschool is a peanut-free zone. Everything I think of is either kind of boring (chips and salsa, plate of fruit) or too grown-up (quinoa pilaf). I used to make macaroni...
  12. Good ideas everybody, thanks!
  13. Interesting... Thanks. That must be it. Does that mean I can't drink wine now?? Grrr. The only other thing I can think of that I did differently is I started exercising again -- one hour walking on the treadmill. I actually read that some people get hives from working out. Maybe I'm allergic to exercise, ha ha!
  14. OK so I broke out in the worst itchy hives last night, about four hours after dinner which I ate with a couple glasses of crappy white zin (2 buck chuck). Husband thinks it's the sulfites in the wine that made me break out in hives. I took an antihistamine which helped. I still have some hives today but not nearly as bad as last night. I've never had this...
  15. thanks everyone, for your helpful responses. definitely will look into all these possibilities. and by the way: patience?? what's that? LOL!
  16. hi Fairy I responded to your post but it didn't show up for some reason. Grrr. Anyway, thanks for your ideas, I'm going to look into this paleo diet as I am still eating rice and quinoa. I think I need to do more veggies and fruits... If I have a problem with soy or corn or something, that wouldn't show up as abnormal on my celiac blood test would it...
  17. BTW, I noticed someone said quinoa makes them sick. Most kinds that you buy are not pre-rinsed and if you don't rinse it before cooking it, there is a film on there that I think can make you sick. I always buy the more expensive pre-rinsed kind. Yep I'm lazy.
  18. I like the idea of telling hubby to say "She can't eat other people's food." This is such a loaded issue. As a vegetarian/vegan for most of my life, I have dealt with people being offended by my not eating their food for years. I skip a lot of events where there will be food because I inevitably get into discussions about are your kids veg too? Where do they...
  19. I haven't been on this board for very long, but you have helped me too. I'm so sorry about your loss. Over the last few years, we lost our two cats and our two dogs all of whom we had for approx. 15 years. It was soooo hard. They were part of our family. It is truly heart-wrenching. I feel your pain. I hope you feel better soon.
  20. LOL at your comments: "Lord what a bunch of cheapskates" and "licking, drooling and walking on things..." Thanks for the laugh. I am trying to be careful: I ordered special gluten free multivitamins and also magnesium. Also ordered gluten free lipstick. I'll check lotions too. Yes I am vegan, it's been a bit of a challenge. Eating lots of rice-based products...
  21. You're probably right. I guess I'm just wanting it to NOT be celiac-related. Because that might mean I"m not being careful enough and I swear if I get any more careful I'll be back on the old bananas and rice diet. Grr. Thanks for your response.
  22. I was diagnosed with celiac four months ago and have been gluten-free since then. I've been going a bit crazy lately, headaches, PMS, anxiety, depression, stress, feeling like crap in general. I decided I wanted to try acupuncture (I don't want to take medication if I can avoid it), and my insurance covers it if I have a referral. My regular doc said...
  23. Thanks! I called the pharmacy and they couldn't tell me. Apparently the medication (Epidrin) was discontinued in February. So I'll have to ask my doctor for something else I guess. Sigh.
  24. Maybe I should just try rice and water for a while. Good idea. I don't know how long I could go with that though! Someone suggested that maybe my problem the other day was a migraine. Headache, nausea, vomiting... I've never gotten that sick from a headache before but maybe a nutritional deficiency or hormones could have triggered it? My hormones have...
  25. And no, I don't drink milk. I have been a vegan for about 10 years. I suppose it's possible that I have a sensitivity to another food that I'm unaware of though. Would a sensitivity to say, nuts, or potatoes, cause dizziness and vomiting? Or is this more likely an accidental glutening?
