Hey guys, I have been off gluten for almost 6 months. Things are going good and i am getting healthier. I am having a few ups and downs still so i figured i would throw out a few questions. 1. Did anybody else deal with fat malabsorption? And does that cause night blindness? Maybe there is another reason for it to do with vitamins or something but...

ARCHIVED I Feel So Much Better....but Why Can't I Do It?
joej1 replied to staci002's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know its hard, but you may want to look into some mental/emotional issues as well. Are you getting anything out of being ill? It's not an easy path but there are a lot of good books out there. I had gluten issues and H. pylori as well, but i also found out that i had a lot of mental/emotional issues to deal with. These are common with food allergies... -
ARCHIVED Neuropathy?
joej1 replied to joej1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks guys, No its not soy or cross contamination because everything is whole foods usually. I am not currently eating any grains either. I think it has something to do with my digestive capacity right now. What do you guys think about this whole "don't eat protein and starches together" thing? I ate a big meal last night for dinner but instead of... -
Quick question guys, I have been off gluten for about 5 months now. I have been pretty low carb for these past few months. I have slowly added back in a little more carbs in the past month. Ironically, i have had more energy than the past 5 months. However, i have noticed that when i eat a heavy dinner, usually with heavy carbs/meats/fats and overeat...

ARCHIVED Questions About Starting Workouts Again
joej1 replied to Greenling's topic in Sports and Fitness
I have the same problem Greenling. I have had issues for the past 3 years with adrenal stuff. One thing i have learned is that you will overdo it sometimes. I have two things that i have learned. 1. Listen to your body and don't try to force it 2. When in doubt, always do a little less rather than a little more. -
ARCHIVED Perfectionism And Sensitivity To Criticism
joej1 replied to joej1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm talking about people who are already gluten intolerant. Their bread wheat itself is different. And no, you cant isolate one thing from the other because it is a combined effect. All of those things you are mentioning are stresses on the body. Lack of exercise, nutrition, sun, processed food, all stress. -
ARCHIVED Perfectionism And Sensitivity To Criticism
joej1 replied to joej1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea Goof, that is basically what i'm saying. There is a big relationship to anxiety/fear/stress and digestive disorders. One theory i have that implements both sides of this is that it's almost a negative feedback loop. The gluten in part causes a lot of the anxiety/stress/neurological symptoms that most of us missed for years. This in turn, leads to... -
ARCHIVED Perfectionism And Sensitivity To Criticism
joej1 replied to joej1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ok, you guys are right. There is no such thing as "false beliefs." However, certain beliefs can be very damaging to our systems. Just to clarify, this was not a thread to call anybody out or to argue i was just curious about which people had identified these kind of issues in themselves. I just think that with all these posts on how to heal physically... -
ARCHIVED Perfectionism And Sensitivity To Criticism
joej1 replied to joej1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey all, I'm glad this turned into an interesting topic. I will clarify a few things. I am definitely not saying that everyone on here has these sort of tendencies/false beliefs that cause gluten intolerance. I think there is a ton of factors at play and everyone is different. I do think though, there is an emotional side to everything. Have you guys... -
ARCHIVED Perfectionism And Sensitivity To Criticism

Has anybody ever wondered why there seems to be more women on this forum than men? I have been doing a lot of mental/emotional work lately and one of the big causes of food intolerances are a sensitivity to criticism. I am not saying that gluten intolerance is not a genetic thing because i believe that it is. But i am also willing to bet that most people... -
ARCHIVED Full Recovery? I Want To Exercise
joej1 replied to hh73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Raw veggies can be hard on the system man. And that is a lot of fruit which can potentially feed some bacterial overgrowth if you have it. I would recommend some testing to check out your G.I health. There are GI pathogen screens that use stool testing and also test the immune system in your gut. I ran a test and found an h. pylori infection i had to... -
ARCHIVED Carb Intolerance
joej1 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know a lot of people are carbohydrate intolerant when they come off gluten. This is probably due to a faulty digestive mechanism. I was wondering if anybody here had these same issues not being able to handle many carbs that eventually got better as they healed. -Joe -

T.H. thats really inspiring. How sick were you before you cut out gluten and how long did it take you for your symptoms to resolve? -Joe -
I am definately making progress in my recovery but i just wanted to see who else had extreme hunger while recovering lol. I feel so excited every time i eat now it's like I live to eat. -Joe

ARCHIVED Full Recovery? I Want To Exercise
joej1 replied to hh73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey man, you might want to look into parasites/bacterial overgrowth. Sometimes these problems do not just go away on their own by going gluten free. I'm workin with a good practitioner who addresses these things. Gluten is the initial problem but it can cause a lot of other crap to go wrong that needs correcting. What is your diet like? -Joe -
ARCHIVED Weight Is Still Fluctuating
joej1 replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You might look into "cocoa pulse testing". I have all kinds of problems with leaky gut and multiple food sensitivities after coming off gluten a few months ago. Basically take your pulse every day in the morning before you eat anything. Get a feel for what your baseline pulse is. Then, after you eat something take it again. If your pulse increases by... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics Side Effects?
joej1 replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
When i started probiotics i definately felt off for more than a week. You have to remember these are Living organisms that are going to change the internal ecosystem in your digestive tract. They help digest food and fight off bad bugs. Most people with gluten intolerance have screwed up systems and bugs. What my practitioner had me do was cut the dose... -
ARCHIVED Healing Cycles
joej1 replied to joej1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks, yea that is how it seems. A lot of people talk about the "healing crisis" when you really start taking care of yourself. Its like your body conserves and builds up its energy and then catapults forward and releases a bunch of toxins and garbage from your system. It makes you feel very crappy for a few days but then your system as a whole is a lot... -
ARCHIVED Healing Cycles

Hey guys, Been off gluten almost 4 months and things are generally going in the right direction. However it is very up and down. It seems like right after I have a really good few days it can be followed by a bad few days. I think that it is probably "healing crisis" going on. These cycles usually start with me feeling really good, eating right, getting... -
ARCHIVED At A Loss For Recovery - Guidance Needed
joej1 replied to Syl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yea i hear ya, I am actually a 24 year old male also and had similar problems. Getting off gluten is definately the first step but it seems that so many people on here just go off gluten and hope for the best. I am working with a functional medicine practitioner who uses lab tests to figure out what is going on. You could have parasites or bacteria overgrowth... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Explained
joej1 replied to joej1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Haha it is a guy called David Getoff. He is involved with people like Paul Chek and the Weston Price Foundation. Basically what i got out of it is that the "bread/wheat" that we eat here in the United States is genetically modified to hell. There is a reason that gluten intolerance is blowing up in the news and doctors offices. We are eating hybridized... -
ARCHIVED Why Am I Allergic To Everything?
joej1 replied to Woolygimp's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know how you feel. How long have you been off gluten? Intuitively I think that one of the biggest things you can do to help yourself is to calm down. I know it is really hard to do that but if when your immune system has been tripping for so long because of gluten it becomes hypersensitized to everything. Do you meditate or do deep breathing? When... -
