    ARCHIVED Lumi (nyc)

what (if any) gluten-free desserts did they have?
  4. wait a second-- did you guys say CARROT CAKE????! they have carrot cake there now?? was this a one-time thing, or do they always have it?
  5. I'm going there tonight...
  6. just adding my 2 cents: i too binge!
  7. oh i LOVE risotteria-- i didn't know it could GET better than the breadsticks and the fudgie... i think i frightened my wednesday night date (first date, oops) by going on and on about my risotteria experience... his restaurant choice could not (sigh) compare!
  8. The past few days I have gotten off track and have been cheating left, right, and center. Cookies and bread at work, cookies as I walk home, candy that's unsafe... I keep telling myself each day that I will stop, but here I am binging on this stuff again. I am having a lot of trouble getting back on track. Have I set off some horrible craving reaction...
  9. I heard that-- I saw Dr. Susie Lee at the Columbia U Celiac center, and she suggested doing follow-up blood work after 6 months and then a re-biopsy after a year. (She also had me get a bone density scan.) She's really good-- I recommend her!
  10. just read this and have to add my 2 cents-- my whole life i have had long skinny limbs and a big bloated belly! i still have it, even now that i am (mainly) gluten free. when i lose control and eat gluten, though, my belly swells way up for days (like today-- could not resist the pastries and xmas goodies yesterday at work). in addition, it is uncanny...
  11. I'm so happy you liked it!

    ARCHIVED Balsamic Dressing

balsamic vinegar IS gluten free. the problem with balsamic vinaiGRETTE dressing is that often other things that are not gluten-free are included. for example, quite often soy sauce is used in that dressing, and soy sauces often have wheat in them. stick to plain vinegar, and you should be fine.
  13. a friend of mine brought HHH's cupcakes to my birthday, and they were fine. a MUCH better option, imho, is the fudgie at risotteria-- 2 fanTAStic chocolate chip cookies (that taste light and chewy like "real" cookies) with a ton of chocolate fudge frosting between them. probably dessert for a family of 8. i finished it in a night. gobble gobble.
  14. I'd love to hear which Hale & Hearty soups are gluten-free too! And I'd love to hear about experiences eating out at Ruby Foo's. (I too work in the Times Square area.) Keep us posted, please!
  15. some of this information you are getting is unclear. i went to the celiac patient education day at columbia u's celiac center to find out the answer to questions just like this one. one of the talks as "how much gluten is toxic" (carol semrad, md, u of chicago) cited a study "dose-dependent effect of gliadin" where patients were given various doses...
