  1. I know this was a year ago but did you ever find anything? Were moving there in Feb and go up there all the time. I found Whole Foods to be really disappointing, the one down in Santa Clarita has way more gluten-free foods and flours.
  2. After 6 yrs of being gluten-free I can say most of those no longer apply to me:) My bread is fantastic and reminds me of wheat bread (Thank you Tom!) I do like my food and don't miss the old stuff one bit since I got a good bread recipe:) Tom says it came from God, what ever, I just know its wonderful and you can make wonderful things like fig newtons from...
  3. Can you see another Dr?
  4. I started on the enzymes about a month ago and I've seen a lot of improvement in a number of areas, from better memory, less brain fog, more energy, more milk (breastfeeding). Enzymes never occurred to me, it was my GI who suggested it, especially after seeing how wasted the inside of my stomach was (he said it looked like what they see in geriatric patients...
  5. I took a lot of Phergran while I was prego, it knocked me out at first but after a couple days of taking it around the clock I was able to function on it just fine, couldn't eat or drink but I was able to get off the bathroom floor:)
  6. I was not gluten-free pregs #1 &2, got severe hyperemesis, lost baby #1 at 5 months gestation due to severe dehydration. Was gluten-free for next 2 pregs, still got it, baby went into distress and died due to my dehydration stressing the fetus, this last preg I raised hell and was given a PICC line at 8 weeks along when it started and it was a life saver...
  7. Allergy/intolerance to dairy protein can cause constipation, lactose intolernace will cause diarrhea.
  8. Sarah now tolerates a lot of foods but it took 4+ years to figure it out. There were NO formulas she tolerated until she was around age 2 and then we found Vivonex Pediatric which is an elemental formula. Up to that point she was breastmilk only. She tolerated the formula but didn't like the taste so it was hard to get her to drink it. She finally started...
  9. Not that I know of, I know a lot of parents with kids on Neocate/Elecare add the Nestle Chocolate or Strawberry (our GI suggested adding it). I don't think there's a single natural thing in those, just pure chemicals. We don't have EE but another lovely condition called systemic mastocytosis with the mast cells all parked in dd's GI tract so it acts like...
  10. I've subbed the Spectrum for butter without a problem, I just usually add a bit of artificial butter flavoring to get that butter flavor.
  11. Were soy and dairy free and you really just have to change the way you think about eating/cooking. For milk it depends on what its going to be used for. For cereal we use rice milk or Dari-Free, for baking I find coconut milk works good and really bumps up the calories which I need since my dd doesn't gain very easily. For butter I haven't found any dairy...
  12. You can get it covered with a fight, check out www.kidswithfoodallergies.org and check the forums. Lots of parents who won insurance battles for formula coverage.
  13. For one thing which would really upset me as a fellow BF mom is you can't BF an EE/EG kid although I do know of 1 mom who went Neocate only herself to be able to BF but she's the only one I have ever known to do it. These kids are in a lot of pain and can only take Neocate or Elecare for food and are often on g-tubes because they refuse to drink the formula...
  14. I would refuse to do it, you've seen the improvement and it could take several months to see the damage in the intestines again. Why put her through that misery just for the GI's benefit? She will surely rebel in her teens and you can test her then.
  15. I'm skipping a lot of replies but the reflux will get worse with an empty stomach and cause retching and she sounds like an EE/EG kid. Have you had the ruled out?
  16. I've read a lot of stuff on needing the mag and I have to agree with it. My T-score is -1.4 and I've opted not to take the fosamax and just do the supps for a couple years and I do take higher then normal mag since I have chronically low levels of it when tested. (I still have serious malabsorption issues) There is stuff on it here on celiac.com https://www...
  17. I agree with the others, I sent in all my dd's food as well. Were home schooling now but for preschool/daycare I sent in her food every day.
  18. Mrs Butterwoths syrup, chocolate fudge frosting, McDonalds hash browns:( I thought it was just my body acting crazy after giving birth, guess it was the gluten..
  19. My first dd was born with active celiac and was failure to thrive by 4 months but she had the nasty gluten diarrhea from birth from my eating gluten. I gave birth 2 weeks ago and this new baby has the same nasty diapers and I've been mystified until I saw something from clan thompson today and discovered that 3 things I've been eating are not gluten-free...
  20. I am totally kicking myself right now My 5 yr old was born with that nasty stinky OMG I'm gonna puke diarrhea and around 4 months of age was dx'd as failure to thrive and we quickly traced the problem to gluten. Around a year of age we found out Celiac was in the family and not only did she have it but so did I. I just had my 2nd child 2 weeks ago and she...
  21. I don't think BF has much of an impact on celiac whereas formula is a known trigger for celiac. I was formula fed from birth and had active celiac from birth. My dd was given formula at birth by some idiot nurses and had a severe reaction and only had breast milk once we left the hospital, she still showed signs of celiac within days of birth with those NASTY...

    ARCHIVED Infertility

Just wondering how your doing? Give your body time to heal. I was dx'd as menopausal at 19, no known reason (symptoms started at 15 but didn't seek help till 19) and was told I would never have a child. Tried all kinds of things and my body would not ovulate or produce hormones. Went though 5 years of infertility, went gluten-free and now all I have to do...
  23. I assume your wife has been tested to make sure she doesn't have celiac disease? I would go gluten-free while pregnant and BF and it really does make meals easier when everyone is eating the same diet:) My plan is to have all future children DNA tested at birth and if they don't have the gene they get gluten-free diet at home, eat what they want when out...
  24. I know UNTREATED Celiac can cause recurrent m/c but what about treated celiac? My labs show I'm not suffering from malnutrition and I'm following the diet perfectly but I just had my 3rd m/c in the last 2 years. Could celiac be to blame?

    ARCHIVED Home Planning

I ended up buying wire shelves from the local k-mart for $40 and they work great. Holds both food and appliances:)
