  1. I'm sorry you are dealing with vertigo. While I was still on gluten, I had an attack so bad that I just went down to the floor. I remember telling my husband to call the doctor or the funeral home. Vertigo is totally debiliting. I am better now but still can have some times when I am woosy. I take a decongestant and do feel better. Hope this helps....
  2. Ok. let's think about this. I'm not a doctor so I can't tell you what you should or not do. However, you say you are feeling better. I know that the longer I am on this diet the more I love it. At 62 I feel better than I have a right to. So if you feel better, why do you want to make yourself sick again? Remember we have one of the healthiest diets...
  3. I've had brittle nails my whole life. This includes the time before my thyroid quit functioning. I have no clue, except they seem to break less as I go along with this diet. I am at about the 5 year mark.
  4. This is a really interesting question and one most of us can't really answer. I believe my mom had Celiac because she was always complaining about "gall bladder". My grand mother died from a gallbladder surgery so the connection is there. Both my sister and I are Celiacs. At least 2 of my 7 children have it. Only one that has been tested does not have...
  5. Very interesting read. However, my mom, grandma, sis, myself, and at least two children are now gluten free. Genetic, also?
  6. How interesting! I had to have a spinal fusion because the pedicle on my vertebrae didn't form or was some how broken. My daughter with Celiac also had to have the same operation. A doctor told me that many Celiacs have low bone density. Have we hit on another thing that doctors haven't told us or don't know? What a mind jogger. I now wonder how many...
  7. Steve is correct. However, I know from personal experience that I was very depressed when the doctor told me that my symptoms were in my mind and there was nothing more she could do for me. I was dying. I know how I felt and I was depressed. Sooooo, maybe in some cases it is related. Still I would check out the Celiac first. The depression improves...
  8. I believe I have read of a link between the two. My sister(also a Celiac) has always accused me of being very unbalanced. Since my diagnosis over 3years ago, I find myself much happier and settled.
  9. Just a word or two about weight loss and Celiac. I have been gluten free for about 4 years. At first I had lost so much I just didn't care. I wanted to gain back weight but went about it in the wrong way. Soon I couldn't stop gaining. I believe (right 0r wrong) that my system had been starved for so long that it over compensated. I also ate a lot of...
  10. No, I haven't tried any of these recipes . Thanks for the info. I am going to try the bread recipe since you said it was good. Thanks again. R. Savage
  11. Sorry, I can't say much about the flax seed oil. I take and grind fresh flax seed each and every morning and find that I feel much better. I use a small electric coffee grinder. I would recommend using light golden flax and keeping it in a cool dark place. The oil goes rancid very quickly. Just a suggestion. I hope this helps. Lots of Luck, R. Savage
  12. Hi, Cipro is an old friend and enemy. Cipro is the last antibiotic that I took before I got so sick that a doctor told me there was nothing she could do for me. Fortunatly my husband insisted I go to a teaching hospital where I was diagnosed with Celiac sprue. However, this medicine is very hard on the stomach. If your intestine is at all irritated you...
  13. I just loved the thread on this particular topic.I am a 62 year old woman who has had her share of weight battles. I own an entire wardrobe for 4 different sized people. (6, 8, 10, 12, and some 14's.) I have been on Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig until I was diagnosed at 58. I am hypothyroid and have both kinds of arthritis. Exercise is still an option...
  14. Dear Jackie, I am a 62 year old female. I was diagnosed 4 years ago. I had been told that I had exercise induced asthma at age 40. As I began to recover I noticed that I didn't need my inhaler any more. Now I've been told that I don't have asthma. I do notice that when I accidentally get some gluten my chest tightens. I can only tell you my experience...
