I read a lot of the old posts on GERD being too much or too little acid and everything in between. Has anyone actually improved by increasing stomach acid, aka betaine HCl? what i have heard before is issues right after eating=too little acid, issues long after=too much. problem is bile reflux/no gallbladder means anytime you eat could be interesting...

ARCHIVED Why Aren't Doctors Up To Speed?
Chad Sines replied to SarahJimMarcy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The vast symptoms make it hard to diagnose without the biopsy. I get why they want it, but no way I want to regluten just for the test. Still, why bother having them put it in writing? it just goes on your insurance and if you lose it and need new insurance, it might cause issues. Since there is no surgery or meds for it, my decision was not to bother with... -
ARCHIVED Do You Take Longer To Heal From Stomach Virus?

I get them all the time and take forever to get better. I will probably get one just by reading this thread. -

ARCHIVED So How Did It Start With You
Chad Sines replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
that stress link is so interesting because I assumed that it would be a physical trigger, but the more i hear from people, the more i hear super stress or something along those lines. -
I was thinking about this topic this weekend when discussing Celiac with friends. How did it start for you, assuming you got it as an adult. Was it WHAM and you got symptoms for the first time. Was it gradual onset. Did it seem that looking back you had it, then did not, then did (you know what i mean, kind of like remission) For me, it seems that looking...

ARCHIVED Got Any Funnys From Friends/family Trying To Understand?
Chad Sines replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i honestly had no clue what it was. I just thought bread..end of story. Heck, look at all the discussions we have about gluten being in shampoo and hidden in this and that. No wonder the public gets confused. We need a Celiac awareness ribbon and have the words "Don't be an idiot to us" inscribed on it for all the jerks out there. -

There are so many negative reactions for celiac on this forum from people who are just plain mean to us that I thought it would be nice to start a thread on cool, funny, or thoughtful things people do to try to help. God bless these people even thought they often get it wrong. I find it hilarious when someone freaks when you eat a baked potato (thinking... -
You are right about that. I am not a drinker anyway, but having to constantly reject it and explaining it when they keep pressing for why gets old. Those who know usually mention something about the allergy and some "funny to them comment about it." Honestly do not care. Just think it shows their ignorance.

If it is a coworker, just file a complaint with HR about someone harassing you about a medical illness. Watch how fast they nip that in the bud to prevent some law suit. Friends and family who do it are not friends or family and are easy to do without. "why don't you visit anymore" "Because you disrespect me for having a medical illness you cannot understand...

Same here. I replaced a lot of worn out stuff that it was simply time to replace either way. But then again if you go back sliding back into gluten, what then? Re-replace?

I have that out of breath feeling in my head (vs really not being able to breath) when I am having gut issues. I think some tummy gas is pushing the diaphragm up and messing with some nerves.

ARCHIVED Back On The Wagon And Icky
Chad Sines replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the diet diagnosis. I had some kind of blood test 10 yrs ago that I have no clue what the results were. 10 yrs of docs not being sure what these flare ups where. then in 2010 it hit like a ton of bricks. sick 24/7, vomiting all day every day, all the other stuff. never skin rash. finally figured myself out. I have been gluten free since March... -
ARCHIVED Back On The Wagon And Icky

Sorry mommy. Forgot to answer your milk question. I seem to get sinusy and GI issues with milk or cheese. That is another bad thing about pizza. If i eat cheese I will be congested the next day a good bit and sometimes belly icky. -
ARCHIVED Back On The Wagon And Icky
Chad Sines replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was never officially diagnosed with celiac; however, i had the symptoms and got better after stopping gluten. I was miserable for a year. 24/7 nausea/vomiting/vertigo/etc. That said the reactions I have start out more slowly and build up quickly. -
ARCHIVED Back On The Wagon And Icky
Chad Sines replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Milk and soy are evil to me. Eggs are out for now. I will get some gluten-free pizzas for those cravings or when someone orders pizza. I honestly had not thought of that. I am a good boy now. No cheating. -
ARCHIVED Back On The Wagon And Icky
Chad Sines replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can resist almost anything except...pizza. We have gluten-free pizza here, but occasionally friends order regular pizza and I am weak. What do you expect from a man. We are not all that bright. I love my taco bell as well but there is wheat in their meat. My usual issue is that I wait too long to eat dinner and get into a low-blood sugar mode and... -

LOL. I'll be good. I am curious if it is not smart to nix the vitamins and digestive enzymes (and everything else not food) completely until having some stable tummy and then adding them slowly to be sure one of them is not causing it. In hindsight I kinda think that may be what I keep doing. Getting on track, getting better, intro vitamins and/or digestive... -
I had been being bad for a little bit but since Sunday I have been all good. Odd thing is that I seem to be having more GI issues, heartburn, diarrhea, nausea, and slight vertigo. The only thing I added was a simple multivitamin yesterday and zinc/calcium/magnessium yesterday as i was getting the leg cramps, digest gold digestive enzymes on tuesday. I am...

ARCHIVED Did Everyone Have A Biopsy To Determine Celiac?
Chad Sines replied to michelle5578's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I saw no point. Docs never tested for it before when I was scoped. Five years after a GI casually mentioned it, it hit me. I cut out gluten and got better. Why go back and spend a lot of $$, have to regluten, have that diagnosis on my medical record, and give them the glory of fixing me. The only treatment is no gluten in your diet. If there were med... -

ARCHIVED Why Are People So Insensitive?
Chad Sines replied to espresso261's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here is my feelings on food issues. It comes off sounding insensitive but it not intended to as I say it to myself. Plus it is just the way life is. It is up to me to ensure that I have food that I can eat. I am no more responsible for a diabetic who does not eat sugar than he is for me wanting gluten free. Personal health issues=personal responsibility... -
I use Dailyburn for food and exercise logging (altho not 100% consistent). Is there a good free online or download food journal software that you all use? I will not, ever, ever maintain a handwritten anything. not going to happen. I know me too well. The dailyburn is a great system, but I am looking for maybe something that you can use to keep track...
