  1. Welcome to SF Ben! Zadin in the Castro, Dosa on Fillmore, Ike's Place in the Mission and Pica Pica on Valencia are my favourite gluten free eateries here in the city. They are all celiac friendly and know what they are doing in terms of preventing cross contamination, etc.
  2. The symptoms you mention sound like you could be celiac. I had very similar symptoms before being diagnosed. If I were you I would start eating gluten again for 3 months. Even though it won't be a nice experience it will allow you to be tested and diagnosed if you are celiac. The other option is just to live as though you are celiac but without really knowing...
  3. What I miss most is being able to nibble the samples which grocery stores hand out! That and having a bite of eating whatever my dining buddy is eating when we go out to eat
  4. I get a sort of brain fog if I get contaminated with gluten by mistake. I can get really forgetful and it feels as though I'm in a bit of a haze. Could you perhaps be eating gluten that you aren't aware of? As glutenfreemanna says, vitamin deficiancy is another possibility..lack of a certain vitamin can do all kinds of crazy things to us. Hope you feel better...
  5. No, if you're celiac you can no longer eat any gluten...at all! Unless you want to get sick and risk all sorts of other terrible long term consequences of course. Once you've started feeling so much better on the diet you won't want to go back to eating gluten as it's what caused all the problems in the first place. Don't worry about Thanksgiving...
  6. Sorry to hear that..If they did the biopsy and found damage I would doubt it would be wrong. You say you've been gluten-free for two years and still feel crap..did you ever start to feel better or have you felt bad the whole 2 years still your diagnosis? perhaps you are still eating something gluten containing without realising it? Are you really careful...
  7. I ordered and drank a diet coke yesterday in a bar which they served to me in a pint glass. This made me think back to this post and how we could possibly be contaminated by this. Drinking from a glass normally filled with gluten (beer..)let's hope bars always thoroughly clean their glasses!
  8. That's great to hear you have finally discovered what was causing all your symptoms! It takes away a lot of stress when you finally realise what's wrong. I don't think you can be officially diagnosed as celiac without the biopsy. They need to see that damage is being done to your villi in order to confirm celiac disease rather than gluten intolerance...
  9. I eat them every day and have no problem. The Honey Nut ones are amazing!
  10. I don't think anything from a dispenser gun has gluten..unless they are using the same gun for beer I think we're fine
  11. I know it's hard to see it now but it really does get so much easier. When I'm eating at home I forget I'm celiac as there are so many things that I can still have. There are also lots of new things I'd never even heard of before that I now eat. What were you looking for that the store didn't have? What would you eat before? Almost anything can be made gluten...
  12. It's not lip gloss but it's a pretty coloured lip moisturiser that I use from Eco Tints. It's gluten free and made from 90% organic ingredients.
  13. I think intolerances can start showing up at any time. I'm not sure what research has been done on people with celiac disease having other intolerances but almost every celiac I know or speak with has something other than gluten that they can no longer eat..mostly it's lactose or soy. I've been gluten free for 2 years after being diagnosed as celiac in...
  14. Arrggghh, I read this too and it made me mad! What's with all these silly articles which make gluten free dieting look like a fad. When are they going to realise that coeliac disease is serious and some of us don't eat gluten free for fun. Why would you go gluten free just for fun anyway!? Do your research before writing these ignorant articles people..you...
  15. You definitely can find some good places where eating gluten free pizza is safe but be very careful about where you choose to go. Almost every restaurant which does both gluten free and non gluten free options will tell you that they cannot 100% guarantee that no cross contamination will occur. In my experience asking the right questions to ensure you...
