ARCHIVED Tests For Celiac
Peaches503 replied to Darby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I am also having problems with getting a confirmed diagnosis. My doctor said that the antigiladin antibodies are present in my blood. The only problem is that this test is only 60% sensetive and is 95% specific. In other words, he told me that in 100% of celiacs, this test will find the antibodies 60% of the time, and when it does find them, it is... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue And Celiac
Peaches503 replied to marycubs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Turtle99, Thank you so much for responding! Being able to talk about this stuff really helps ease my stress, even if it's just to get things off of my mind. I know that my parents care, but the thing is, I'm not a stupid girl. I consider myself extremely intelligent, and I know what I need to do to take care of myself. I could never actually starve... -
ARCHIVED Cheating...interested How Many Of You Do
Peaches503 replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi all, I would never cheat! Any gluten that gets into my diet is purely by accident. I am still new at it, so I'm probably not as good at getting rid of gluten as I want to be, but I really am trying. I would never cheat - there's just too much at risk! -Peaches -
ARCHIVED Fatigue And Celiac
Peaches503 replied to marycubs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it. The problem is, my parents are very educated about this disease, however, they've always been on my case because I'm just not a big eater. Sometimes I get the feeling that they think I am purposely starving myself when in reality, I'm just not hungry. I would never let myself go hungry, and I eat when I feel hungry... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue And Celiac
Peaches503 replied to marycubs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Turtle, I can understand what you mean. My parents just care about me, I know. It's just that my appetite has not changed. I eat the same amount I have always eaten, not to mention that at this point in life, many people's bodies are still going through changes, so even without celiac, my body was changing. I just wish we could find a happy medium... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue And Celiac
Peaches503 replied to marycubs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Turtle99, I feel your pain! And, I can sympathize with the parental annoyance. I've lost some weight in the past 5 years, and I know that I've only had celiac for a year (severe emotinal stress triggered it last May) and my parents think that I need to eat, eat, eat! Anytime I say I'm tired or that something else related to the disease is wrong,... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue And Celiac
Peaches503 replied to marycubs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I could literally sleep for hours, I am so exhausted, and I even get 8-9 hours of sleep every night! But, still, I feel so fatigued and tired all day long. I never have energy, and I know that this is because of the celiac. You're not alone! -Peaches -
ARCHIVED Reasons
Peaches503 replied to countryfairy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I also agree with celiac3270 and Kaiti. I don't think doing the gluten challenge is a good idea. A diagnosis is a diagnosis, whether you have symptoms or not. The gluten challenge is not worth the damage it could do to your body. Besides, being gluten-free is beneficial to anyone anyway. Good luck with all of this. -Peaches -

ARCHIVED Recovering Anorexic/bulimic And Scared
Peaches503 replied to bessiejay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Gina, Wow, I just read your story. I don't think you or any of us should feel ashamed for our eating problems (or eating disorders, whichever we've had). Everyone has a skeleton in their closet, and ours happen to be things like that. Though I've never binged or purgerd or ever been bulimic or anorexic, I do have very weird and strong tendencies when... -
ARCHIVED Recovering Anorexic/bulimic And Scared
Peaches503 replied to bessiejay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
ALJF, Hi, I am out here! I feel exactly the same way, and I have been with celiac disease for a month. I too have been eating so much candy and stuff (mainly because I can have it and I feel like I need to give myself a treat for all the stuf that I can't have), but I want to be healthy and maintain my weight without gaining. You are not alone. Feel... -
ARCHIVED Recovering Anorexic/bulimic And Scared
Peaches503 replied to bessiejay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Bessie, Wow, you sound so much like me! Though I have never had full-blown anorexia or bulimia, I believe that I have always suffered from some form of disordered eating. I too have an irrational fear of gainging weight, and since being diagnosed with celiac disease, I am worried about gaining weight, though I only lost about 10 pounds in a year, and... -
ARCHIVED Brand New Diagnosis
Peaches503 replied to beks's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I too am 21 and was diagnosed only a month ago, but was not getting severely sick. I can tell you that keeping yourself educated is the most important thing to do. Despite how you may feel, it is necessary to remain 100% gluten free for life. Any time it seems tempting for me to eat gluten, I think about how much I want children, or how much I want... -
ARCHIVED Zelnorm Question
Peaches503 replied to mela14's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I too was diagnosed with IBM before my celiac blood test. I personally think that Zelnorm made me more constipated and actually made the pain in my left side way worse. I did notice an increase with my appetite while on it, but as far as actually making my stomach feel better? Nope. My abdomen and instestines were still in so much turmoil, and being... -
ARCHIVED Where To Start?
Peaches503 replied to Bette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Bette, After reading your post, you should definitely be tested for celiac. It sounds like you probably have it, though I'm not a doctor. Many of your symptoms resemble mine, and even after I was diagnosed, I realized that many other things that were bothering me were also due to celiac. My symptoms included: dry mouth, constipation (severe, and still... -

ARCHIVED Natural Flavorings Etc.
Peaches503 replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hello All, I'm a newly diagnosed celiac and wasn't sure where else to post my question. I was wondering if peanut flour is safe for celiacs. It is listed as an ingredient in many types of peanut-butter candy that is safe otherwise. Hope someone can help. Thanks! -Peaches -
ARCHIVED Sensitivity Vs. Intolerance?
Peaches503 replied to wooya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your story sounds a LOT like mine. In the past, I have been mildy anemic, had depression and anxiety episodes, had my thyroid tested 3 times (negative all 3), had glucose levels, enzyme, and vitamin levels all test ok. I have also never noticed any intolerance to specific foods and did not suffer symptoms up until about a month ago. However, I did suffer... -

I forgot to ask, when do you usually take your VC and Mg? In the morning or in the evening? Does it make a difference as to when they will "work"? -Peaches -
ARCHIVED The Embarssing End Of Coeliacs...
Peaches503 replied to Holgate's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure if this is exactly the same, but I suffer from the same sort of pain. It is due to my problems going to the bathroom. Sometimes I get really bad lower back pain and it even shoots down into my upper thigh and leg. I would say that it is probably related to your celiac problems, however, you know your body best. If you feel that it is something... -

Burdee, Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help. I can't tell you how much better it makes me feel to know that I'm not alone- and that there's help for my symptoms! I'm going to start the VC and Mag right away. I'm looking forward to feeling normal again! -

Chrissy, Your situation sounds very similar to mine. Thanks for the reply. I will be sure to try the vitamin C and magnesium. How much of each should I take? -

Part of my symptoms include the typical celiac stools, however, I suffered from sever constipation (sometimes not going for a month!) I've been gluten-free for 2 weeks and haven't noticed a change. I am eating all the fruits and veggies and stuff, but nothing seems to help. What can I do? Anyone with similar problems that has advice? -
ARCHIVED Is It Normal To Feel Sick In The Morning?
Peaches503 replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have a question for all of those that have had this for a while. How important is it to be sure that celiacs are also using gluten-free products, such as lotions, shampoos, etc., even if we don't have dermatitis herpetiformis? I've been gluten-free for 2 weeks, but havent felt much of a difference. But, I noticed that I am using 2 lotions regularly that...
