ARCHIVED Is Wheat Free The Same As Gluten Free?
connole1056 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
People make this mistake all the time. That is why I do not think it is a big deal that foods will be labeled wheat free. All it means for celiacs is that we do not have to look at the ingredients to decide whether or not to eat it. Maybe it is a step in the right direction though. -
ARCHIVED Went To Walmart Yesterday
connole1056 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I asked about the injection solution in an e-mail to WalMart. When and if I get a reply I will let you know what the answer is. There is only one Supercenter near me, and I have not noticed any of their meat labeled as being injected, so maybe not all of the stores have the same meat products. Or perhaps it is just that the products I look at and buy are... -
ARCHIVED Walmart Going Gluten Free
connole1056 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hear what you are saying. However, I do think some of this WalMart issue is being overblown by the media. People should shop wherever they want to. If a small store cannot compete, it may be hard, but I do not think a large store should be blamed for it.Thats capitalism. I have seen many long-term employees at the WalMarts I shop in. They do not look... -
ARCHIVED Non-gf Hot Dogs
connole1056 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I was wondering which brands of hot dogs are NOT gluten-free. I usually get Oscar Mayer and Hebrew National but my children want a change. What dogs are NOT gluten-free? I know the hot dogs with cheese often have gluten, but I am looking for regular all meat hot dogs and thought it might be easier if I knew what brands NOT to get. Thanks! -

Thank you Tiffany. You always have such well thought-out responses and information for all of us. You have helped me a few times! -
ARCHIVED Walmart Going Gluten Free
connole1056 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have not been on this board for awhile so when I came on and saw this I was surprised and thrilled! I am going to e-mail WalMart and thank them! A bit off topic- as far as the legislation goes,I do not understand how this is so helpful to celiacs as wheat is only one ingredient that has to be avoided. I know it will make it easy to dismiss a product we... -
ARCHIVED Missing Manicures....madly!
connole1056 replied to sweetiegrl109's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Do you have DH? Was that the reaction? I could not tell from your post. I think nail polishes are harder for those with DH. Sometimes it is hard to communicate with the people at the nail salon because many of the employees, around New England anyway, are Asian and speak limited English. However, it is odd they did not understand you wanted them to use your... -
I was wondering what celiacs have been getting at Burger King recently, and if you would be willing to share that with me. I have not checked in awhile. The website lists food with allergens, but only wheat is a common allergen so I am not sure about the food containing other no-no's for celiac patients. Thanks!!

ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
connole1056 replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Everything I have ever read about celiac disease and nationalities has said it is most prevalent among the Irish population. But since the doctors in Ireland are more aware of celiac disease it follows it is going to be diagnosed there more often than in countries where the doctors don't know too much about it. No one really can say what the exact numbers... -
ARCHIVED Top Three Worst Gf Products
connole1056 replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As a rule we stay FAR away from Midel cookies and EnerG everything, not just the bread!!! My daughter hated the canned spaghetti at first but now eats it once in awhile. The Chebe bread mix is ine the cupboard but we haven't gotten around to making it yet. Also, we have found the more restrictive a food is (the more "x-free" listings on the label), the... -
ARCHIVED "kids With Celiac Disease" By Dana Korn
connole1056 replied to parkerrmmc's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you cannot do what celiac3270 suggested I will send you the info. I just bought the book a short while ago and have not read it yet but I can look it up if you need it. -
ARCHIVED Juice Boxes & Rice Milk Boxes
connole1056 replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Many stores carry plastic juice box holders that prevent the box from being squeezed and the juice spilling. They are not available for the small juice boxes though. I have found they are great for the younger kids. However, the child does need to learn eventually, and trial and error is eliminated if the juice is never spilled!!! -
ARCHIVED How Do I Start?
connole1056 replied to JoyfulDancer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it is best to start out quite slowly. The food is expensive so going out and buying everything at once will blow your budget. In the beginning there will most likely be a lot of wasted food. It is nice to hear recommendations from other celiacs, but there is no guarantee that your child will like a particular brand just because someone else likes... -
ARCHIVED Going On A Cruise Saturday!
connole1056 replied to LqrMan's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Please let us know what cruise line was the easiest to deal with. I am interested in going on a cruise and would like some input. I have heard that the larger the ship the easier it is to get special dietary accomodations. -
ARCHIVED What Can I Bring With Me?
connole1056 replied to ACopsWife's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I know at Six Flags in Mass people bring food and go to the car to eat when they want it, then go back into the park after. I think bringing food in your pocketbook or small lunchbox would be fine. The worst that can happen is the staff at the gate would tell you to return it to your car. I do not know how hungry you get, but you cannot possibly be talking... -
ARCHIVED Could My Daughter Have Celiac? Constant Hunger
connole1056 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think you have been given great advice here. I would go to a pedi GI. Maybe you could speak to the doctor or nurse beforehand and find out if they are familiar with and treating anyone with celiac disease. As for the constant hunger, I know how you feel. My daughter has been gluten-free for about 6 years and is still hungry quite often. She was never as... -
ARCHIVED Marriage Trouble And Celiac
connole1056 replied to Merika's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have lupus and often times are too tired to do many things around the house, so they go undone. You are lucky your husband does them! It is very hard though to hear complaints about it though. I reccommend a website called divorcebusting.com. It is very helpful. It is run by a counselor named Michelle weiner-Davis. She has written many books on relationships... -
ARCHIVED Help For Newly Diagnosed Toddler
connole1056 replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I recommend getting in touch with CSA/USA.You can call 1-877-CSA-4-CSA, www.csaceliacs.org or go to their website. This is a terrific organization for celiacs. They have a gluten-free product guide that is the absolute best! The $25 cost is well worth it. So is the yearly membership, which is $25 or $30.The group will send you some really good info for beginners... -
ARCHIVED Low Gluten- Is It Ok
connole1056 replied to Nic from Aust's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is too bad you were told that. Did you ask why a little gluten would be alright, but alot wouldn't? It does not make sense to me! A long while back, I heard about celiacs outside the US being told low-gluten was fine, but I thought that had been settled and was not happening any longer. -
ARCHIVED Cheating In The Wee Hours
connole1056 replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it is normal for a child to do sneaky things like your child is doing. It probably does not have to do with the diet, more likely that he is testing you and his limits. I do not think it is unusual for some people to cheat. I am not saying it is a wise choice, but I do know some people who have made it nonetheless. It must be hard to see the reaction... -
Any resort in Disney has gluten-free food available. There is no need to call ahead of time for special accomodations. All the sit down restaurants can make gluten-free food as well as some of the counter service restaurants. The only time it is necessary to make special requests is for the dinner shows where only one dinner is served. Some of these are...

Thanks sooooo much. But she does LOVE her Yankees!!!!!

I hate it when people think a gluten-free diet is a lifestyle choice I made for my daughter. Like I would force this on anyone!! If someone wants to make the choice to eat gluten-free that is fine-alot of work for them, but fine. They do not seem to realize that they can afford to ingest gluten, if they so choose, without getting sick while a celiac cannot...

Is Brevail a natural supplement? I know you said a supplement, but I am not that knowledgable about these "natural" things. Maybe all supplements are?? The reason I am asking is that I have read countless articles about natural supplements not being FDA regulated and the fact that often times the potency listed on the bottle is so far below what is actually...

ARCHIVED Whole Foods Bakery-yum
connole1056 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband did not know the chocolate chip cookie was gluten-free until I told him. This was a first in our house, someone not recognizing food as gluten-free. The food is ridiculously expensive though, but I will spend the money for the taste my daughter loves. We cannot believe how happy she is with those cookies!
