ARCHIVED Eos Products
birdie22 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wanted to share that EOS products are gluten free, even those containing oats. I knew that their lip balm was gluten free because the packaging states that but didn't think their lotion, shave lotion, etc were because they contain oats. I had contacted their CS with feedback about packaging on a special set that included both lip balm and lotion whereby... -
ARCHIVED Would You Pay For Genetic Testing At This Point?
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think so. She doesn't see the value. It appears that Kimball would do it but would send the results to my doc and I'd need to request a copy from the doc. Pretty sure that's the fastest way to piss off the doc LOL. My mom has a follow up with the doc (we have the same primary care doc) in November to follow up on her bottomed out B12 and I'm pretty... -
ARCHIVED Would You Pay For Genetic Testing At This Point?
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for letting me know about the issue of being in NY. Looks like a doc needs to order it in my lovely state. So, I guess it doesn't matter unless I want to shop around for a new doc and find one willing to order it. Bummer. -
ARCHIVED Would You Pay For Genetic Testing At This Point?
birdie22 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Diagnosed NCGS. Had full celiac panel done 11mo ago and all was negative. Had positive response to gluten-free diet. Been gluten-free ever since. I have 2 daughters. Both are tiny (as am I), one has constipation issues for sure. My dad was tested for celiac back in the late 80s or early 90s. Result was negative. My mom is pursuing testing because she had... -
ARCHIVED Finding A New Moisturizer That Is Gluten Free

I use Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash and love it. Makes my face squeaky clean (like the old dawn soap on plasticware commercials) and yet not at all dried out. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Could A Little Gluten Be Okay For Me?
birdie22 replied to ramdr's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree that it may well take longer than 2mos to notice a change. I am blood test negative and it took me approx 4 mos to feel like I was on the right track with eliminating gluten from my diet. It helped me to keep a symptom tally and look at the tallies each month and I could see progress. I could see that bloating that was happening 14+ days a month was... -

ARCHIVED Save My Melamine Colander?
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you both! Trying to balance being cautious and being crazy LOL! -
I bought a new melamine colander. Nothing fancy, not too many holes, easier than most to clean. I bought it in red to match my other red gluten-free items...kitchen utensils, toaster, etc. Well, my mom stayed at my house this weekend to babysit the kids while DH and I were out of town and she used the colander when she made the kids kraft mac n cheese. I...

ARCHIVED What Do You Do To Help The Fatigue?
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks all. I do take D3 daily and B12 2x per week. I just had my B12 levels checked and am waiting to hear back. Thankfully the fatigue only lasts ~2 days so it helps knowing the end is near when it does happen. If anything it is my head that feels the most fatigued. Like my body could keep on keeping on if only I could detach my head and let it rest. Now... -
When I get glutened the fatigue hits about 48hrs later and comes and goes over the next 2-3 days. I work full time and have 2 small children so spending dys on the couch napping isn't possible. Have you found anything that helps lessen the fatigue? I exercise most mornings and am a cup of coffee a day drinker. I'm trying not to treat w more caffeine because...

ARCHIVED I Have The "what Got Me This Time" Conundrum
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty sure it was the corn. Now, no idea what about the corn...the corn itself, the pot it was cooked in, etc. But we had a different meal (hot dog sans bun, squash, and leftover corn) for dinner last night. I purposefully took the corn out of the plastic container and put it into a glass bowl to reheat in the microwave. I had a small serving. I was... -
ARCHIVED Cupcake Wrapper Problems
birdie22 replied to Mizzo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have read that oftentimes gluten free recipes are more wet/moist and don't work as well with paper liners. I used foil liners and have better success. -
ARCHIVED I Have The "what Got Me This Time" Conundrum
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sound advice. I have a few small glass containers that I use for things that are specifically my leftovers, things I bring to heat at work, etc. That worked great when I was eating totally different foods from the gluten family. Now that the items that we have for dinner, which is what generates the leftovers, is in family size quantities we have a need for... -
ARCHIVED I Have The "what Got Me This Time" Conundrum
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
DH is meticulous with cleaning the grill and I can't think of any gluten sauces that would've been used. The sauce this time was just plain ole italian salad dressing, Wegman's brand, so a nice big gluten-free on the front of the bottle. The kids aren't old enough to use the butter themselves so it's just DH and I and we have a gluten-free one and a not gluten... -
ARCHIVED I Have The "what Got Me This Time" Conundrum
birdie22 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free for 11mos. I keep a food and symptom log and it's clear that things are markedly improved over time...far less bloating, headaches, canker sores, fatigue, muscle aches, etc. My home is not gluten-free but our common dinner is always gluten-free. The kids and hubby may have gluten with breakfast or lunch (weekends, weekdays we are all... -
ARCHIVED Random Sliver Like Spot In Finger
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Doesn't peel, not really a blister, just a bump, never in the same spot twice, none on feet or anywhere else just hand/finger. The one from last week is almost gone 5 days later. -
So for maybe the past year (haven't been tracking as I never thought it was connected to gluten) I get these random sore spots on my fingers/palms. I wondered if any of you DH experts had anything similar. Some details: 1. Only get one at a time 2. Last a few days to a few weeks 3. A very small, pimple size bump 4. Flesh colored, so not red, or inflamed...

ARCHIVED How Likely Was It The Cooking Pot?
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks all. Sauce wasn't new and it's a meal I've had before except usually with white rice instead of brown rice. Pot appeared clean. I did use a lid and it's a glass lid so there's a seam where the glass meets the metal rim. The rice water did boil up to the lid so I guess it's possible there was cc from the lid. We've used this pan a lot and the rest of... -
I've been gluten-free for 10mo and doing well. Yesterday I cooked dinner for myself and kids (hubby is usually the cook). I made chicken stir fry...chicken breast, frozen mixed veggie, brown rice, and sweet sour sauce. The sauce is labeled gluten-free (wegmans has clear labeling) as was the brown rice and the veggies (also wegman's brand) only listed veggies...

ARCHIVED I Need Good Bread!

Another vote for Udi's multigrain. I take 2 slices out in the a.m. and by lunchtime at work it is thawed. No toasting needed. -

ARCHIVED Glutened And It Was Even A Good Meal.
birdie22 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Pretty sure I got glutened eating out tonight. Went to a local BBQ place. Asked the waitress about gluten free items. She said everything but bread, cornbread, and fried items (shared frier) should be fine. She answered right away, w/out hesitation, so I got the impression she knew what she was taking about. I got the pulled pork (w/out bread..it's usually... -
