ARCHIVED Best Tasting gluten-free Waffles To Buy
birdie22 replied to Spartans1960's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been able to get Van's flax locally and I really like them. -
At the recommendation of my PCP and after reading up a few thread here I purchased some digestive enzymes (Source Naturals). For those that use a digestive enzyme, how often do you take them? Every day at every meal? Just some meals? Just early on in recovery? Or for the long haul like a vitamin? The instructions say to take 1 or 2. How do you know how much...

ARCHIVED 4 Months Gluten-Free - No Improvement - Need Help!
birdie22 replied to Tarantula44's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm 4mo into gluten-free diet and also blood test negative. I didn't find I really started to feel better more often (still have off days) until I found the right dose of the right kinds of vitamins/minerals to promote some healing. I'm taking 500mg magnesium (chelated and plain...no calcium as this competes with mag), 2000mg D3, and 100mg B12. The magnesium... -
And don't forget to bring in some scrumptious gluten-free treats for your friends/coworkers and surprise them with just how good gluten-free can be. Today was my day for treats for staff meeting. I made Pamela's chocolate chunk brownies. People raved about how good they were. They had no idea they were gluten-free. And I agree that your tastes start to change...

I like Van's too! I've had the flax and the blueberry varieties and I like them both, as do my kids who are picky and not gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Cute Idea For "allergy" Alert Jewelry
birdie22 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Came across this bottle cap necklace set on Zulily today and thought this would be a fun way to convey the gluten allergy. Now, I realize that this may not be recognized or taken as seriously as the true medical alert jewelry but thought I'd share anyway. Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Heart Pounding After Eating?
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No caffeinated beverages at lunch. I have 1/2 c of coffee at breakfast and don't get the sensation then. Had my thyroid tested 2x's (full panel including antibodies) and all was normal. No rx drugs, just magnesium, D3, and B12 in the a.m. every day but that is daily w/out fail and yet the heart pounding is not an every day thing. Food allergies/intolerances... -
ARCHIVED Heart Pounding After Eating?
birdie22 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Anyone get a feeling like their heart is pounding hard after eating a meal? This seems to be happening to me more frequently and it almost always occurs after lunch while at work. I have a bad habit of eating at my desk. My meals are not large and vary (sometimes a sandwich on gluten-free bread, or soup, or nut thins and hummus, cheese and nut thin and fruit... -
I agree, it does get easier. I'm 4mo into this. I have 2 boxes of Thin Mints in my cupboard at home that I bought just days before going gluten-free. My kids eat them. Sometimes I look at the box and feel sad because I love love love those cookies, but it just isn't worth it to me to have one. We also have a weekly staff meeting that we take turns bringing...

ARCHIVED Need To Vent About My Symptoms
birdie22 replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can relate. I've been gluten-free since November. Even before that my symptoms have always been sporadic. I'll have a week of feeling fantastic and think I've finally figured this thing out and then the next week I'm back to feeling like junk. My doc told me to keep in mind that not everything I feel can be attributed to food intolerance. She said that... -
ARCHIVED Irish Soda Bread Recipe Please!
birdie22 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My DH loves cooking corned beef and cabbage for St. Patty's Day. A few years ago I encouraged him to try baking soda bread. We found a good recipe and it's now a staple of our St Patty's Day meal. I'm hoping to find a good gluten-free recipe and convince him to make that instead because a)I want to be able to eat bread too and b)I loathe the idea of regular... -
ARCHIVED What Else To Test For Or Investigate?
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Had another follow up with my PCP. She's recommending to just stay the course which is: levsin as needed for abdominal discomfort that comes with bloating phazyme/gas-x as needed for bloating magnesium (500mg), D3 (2000mg) and B12 (100mg) add a digestive enzyme (she didn't say what kind) She wants me to track the incidents of my heart pounding/racing... -
ARCHIVED Question About Progresso Soup
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Sylvia! I was able to find 3 or 4 different gluten-free labeled Progressos at Walmart. I was surprised not to find them at my Wegmans which is known for having a great variety of products. I happily enjoyed a gluten-free Progresso creamy potato and broccoli soup for lunch. -
ARCHIVED A Question About Poop (Tmi)
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Had a follow up with my PCP today and I mentioned the stool issues. She didn't have a comment on the flakes. She confirmed that the sheen was fat malabsorption and thought that digestive enzymes might help. She didn't suggest what kind and she didn't indicate that she considered the fat malabsorption to be problematic (didn't ask me questions about it or... -
Bought some Rembrandt canker sore variety. Wanted the sls free toms but only could find the other toms varieties. My dh bought a different Colgate last week and that stuff burns my mouth. I also have geographic tongue and what ever is in that gel kind has really bothered my tongue.
-
Thanks for the continued perspectives. Going to get an SLS free toothpaste. It can't hurt to try that although that doesn't explain why I didn't have them both times I was pregnant since I'm a loyal Colgate user and have used the same brand/type for many years.

ARCHIVED A Question About Poop (Tmi)
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks all. Ive been gluten-free for 4 mos although I did have about 4 days of gluten about a month ago on docs advice. I do take vitamins and the magnesium is white but I don't notice the white flakes all the time. I drink 1/2-1 cup of coffee a day everyday and only rarely have alcohol so I don't think that is the cause. I am keeping a food and symptom log... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Poop (Tmi)
birdie22 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
2 Questions actually. What's a few questions about poop among friends Since starting a gluten-free diet I've been more acutely aware of and interested in my bowel habits. Typical for me (both before and after going gluten-free...so my bowel habits haven't changed as a result of diet changes) has been a daily BM that's looser (sometimes many pieces... -
Thanks all for the replies. I'll have to look back to my food log and see if I can find any connection to food and onset of them. Thankfully I only get one at a time but they last for about 5-7 days so one week out of ever 4 my mouth is sore. Right now I have one on the floor of my mouth and my tongue rests right on it. Not fun! My PCP suggested it might...

ARCHIVED Question About Progresso Soup
birdie22 replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That make sense. I guess I'm curious as to why progresso would take that step for some soups and not others that don't seem to have gluten ingredients. I'm specifically looking at the Creamy Roasted Chicken Wild Rice and the Chicken and Wild Rice. The varieties they list as gluten-free on their site don't necessarily carry at gluten-free label on the cans... -
ARCHIVED Question About Progresso Soup
birdie22 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I saw on the Progresso site the list of soups that are gluten free. I'm curious why some of the others that don't have gluten ingredients aren't on the list. I have 2 different chicken and rice varieties that arent on the list. There is food starch listed but the allergy statement only says contains soy. They both have a no added MSG statement. Any thoughts... -
If you get canker sores from being glutened: 1. How soon after a glutening do they usually appear? And 2. How long after bring gluten-free did it take for them to completely go away? I have been gluten-free for 4 months. I seem to get one canker sore a month. I always thought it was hormone related, but now that I've been tracking all my symptoms I...

ARCHIVED Ken's Dressing Are Gluten Free
birdie22 replied to jenn42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you/does your friend know if that includes the single serving dressings that restaurants have for take out? I have a wonderful gluten-free pizza joint near me that also sells gluten-free chicken fingers, wings, and such. The owner wasn't able to confirm if the single serving Ken's Blue Cheese cups were gluten-free (he ran the code on them). I know Ken...
