  1. I've had lots of hair fall out too. I still have alot of hair, but it is about 1/2 of what it used to be. SIGH. Even my friend remarked that my hair looks dull and lifeless. Although I am a yo-yoer on the diet, I have noticed that my hair stops falling out when I am gluten-free. Hope this helps. Oh---and BTW....excercise and sleep also help with...

    ARCHIVED Shingles?

If the bumps are directly behind your ear, they could be your lymph nodes. If so, you are likely coming down with a virus (if it is your nodes). I am not a doctor, but I have had my nodes swell in the past and they hurt like heck.
  3. Does mucous always mean a bigger problem other than celiac? I've had mucous in my stool in the past, but haven't seen any in a while. Anyone know?
  4. I went through the same thing at age 18-20. Had no appetite, would throw up alot, lost a tonne of hair etc. People thought I was anorexic, but I kept insisting that I just had no appetite. Now I'm fat...go figure!!! Probably from years of my body starving itself unbeknown to myself. Now if I even look at food, I balloon.
  5. When I drank before diagnosis, I was sick/exhausted for aobut 7 days. I no longer drink b/c of how bad I feel. Anyone know if it is b/c of celiac?
  6. Is paprika always gluten-free?
  7. Thank you to all who answered. Lots to think about here. Have to put my health first.
  8. Hello everyone, I feel kinda bad b/c I have been yo-yoing on the diet and even when I am "on" it I am taking risks (ie...I drink coffee without questioning whether it has gluten). I need help with this.... My b/f doesn't take it very seriously, which makes it hard (ie...he ordered Pitas for dinner the other night for the 2 of us....says stuff like "lots...
  9. I haven't had an "official" diagnosis b/c my doc believed that my symptoms were enough. I had obvious abdominal distention and fat in stool (tested for this), along with a host of other symptoms (see below). I have had symptoms for about 11 years and was always told it was "in my head" or "stress-related"....I was pretty angry when my latest doctor connected...
  10. I usually have the same breakfast.....gluten-free toast with organic PB, tea with honey, and a piece of fruit.
  11. Hi everyone, Does anyone know if benzoate of soda is gluten free? Skar
  12. I am also in Toronto and am really excited about attending the conference.
  13. I think I'll lay off of Quaker for a while. Thanks celiac3270.
  14. Funny thing happened today. I bought Quaker plain rice cakes yesterday and decided to try them this morning. I ate them in the car and by the time I got to work I had to go poop. I ended up having diarrhea, and am wondering if there could be hidden gluten in them even though the ingredients don't indicate so. Maybe it's just the stress of my new job ...
  15. Hello everyone! Since going gluten-free (about 3 weeks now) I have noticed some improvements, but I have also noticed some things that aren't necessarily the greatest. One thing is that I seem to be very thirsty with dry mouth, and feel like I have 24 hour bad breath. Has anyone else experienced this??? One other q'n....gluten-free also ends up...
  16. It seems that of the 4 - rice, beans, corn, potatoes - I am best able to handle rice. Is rice the least starchy? I think beans may be causing me alot of problems, so I've let them go for now. Anyone know the answer to this? Skar
  17. Thank you all for your replies. This is definitely something to think about and run by my doctor. I've only been gluten-free for 3 weeks and do feel much better, but it seems the more I research, the more I learn that my ailments are connected to celiac. I had so many symptoms that my doc did not feel it necessary to run tests, but I have questioned that...
  18. Over the years I've had a very sharp (double over) type of pain in my upper left abdomen, just below the ribcage. I had never connected it to celiac until now since my docs have said it is likely a muscle spasm. Hmmmm. Now I am wondering b/c I have read about the link between celiac and the pancreas. Can anyone shed light on this?
  19. Whenever I eat movie theatre popcorn I throw up big time. I think it is the butter b/c I am allergic to all dairy. It's not a pretty site.
  20. LOL @ septic tank. As always Kaiti, you've been a great help. How do you know so much??? Is malto-dextrin gluten free?
  21. I have been gluten-free for about 3 weeks and my stools have definitely changed, but I am still having frequent bowel movements (not as often, but still frequent). DO THE FREQUENT BOWEL MOVEMENTS MEAN THAT I AM STILL NOT ABSORBING NUTRIENTS AS WELL AS I SHOULD? Despite the frequency, I have noticed some positive changes: mucous is gone, stool no longer...
  22. Anyone know of any gluten-free peanut butters?
  23. I am from Azorean (Portuguese) decent, but my grandfather had blue eyes and was very light indicating possible Irish background. There is a history of some Irish settlement on the island of Sao Miguel which is where my parents are from.
  24. Does anyone know if it is gluten free?
  25. How about Reese cups? Are they gluten free too?
