  1. I have the same problem and am still at a place where it's painful to see everyone else eating all the foods I want and can't have. Also I don't have a medical diagnosis and people seem to think this is a whim of mine and it won't really hurt if I just have a little [fill in the blank]. The advice on this thread has been helpful though.
  2. If you're eating lots of processed gluten-free foods, crackers, breads, etc, that could be why you are not losing weight. I have found that I cannot eat these things, they give me all sorts of digestive problems. My favorite treat right now to satisfy my cravings is to combine, in a food processor, some nuts, dates, and coconut (flakes and oil), roll it...
  3. Yeah ... I think I'd rather feel better. Especially because I suspect I'd be one of those people who, after months of misery, would test negative anyway. Thank you for your reply! It was really helpful.
  4. OK, this morning I feel like I got hit by a truck ... but it is all neurological and inflammatory stuff, not gastrointestinal. So I guess that small amounts cause me to get more GI symptoms (sometimes including D) and larger amounts cause more neurological symptoms. That seems ... odd ... but OK. I'd be interested to know if anyone has an explanation,...
  5. On a side-note, at least this would seem to explain my mysterious dizzy spells. This is the worse vertigo I've had in a while ... the room feels like it's moving and I can't focus my eyes properly.
  6. I have noticed a pattern lately that when I get clear cross-contamination, I get sharp, stabbing burning pains usually in my lower left side or around the navel region. This happens quickly, within 10-15 minutes. I have tried eating small amounts of gluten-containing foods a couple times and got the same reaction, but an hour or two later. Now I just ate...
  7. Thanks. So can food intolerances show up on skin testing? I read somewhere that they can't. I am thinking of seeing an allergist though. When you were reacting to eggs, were you able to eat things that contained eggs - like muffins - or was that a problem too?
  8. Since going gluten-free I have started experiencing bouts of intense nausea, more and more frequent. Thought it might be blood sugar, so I had tests including a 3-hour OGTT, all came back normal. So I tried eliminating eggs for 2 weeks (I started eating a LOT of eggs when I dropped gluten), and continued to have other symptoms and pains, but not so much...

    ARCHIVED Vent.

I know what it's like, I've been conducting lab experiments on my body for three months now and every experiment involves at least a day of misery. Fortunately, the pain will pass, but the knowledge will remain! In the meantime, hang in there.
  10. Thanks to all who have responded! It is nice just to know I am not alone ... not that I wish this on others! Another small irritation today - the one trail mix (really just seeds and dried fruits) that I know I can eat without problems, my local store has just stopped carrying. Sigh. I know, there are larger problems in the world ... I've been...
  11. I just need to vent a bit. I've been gluten free for a few months now and keeping a food journal and I keep finding more and more foods that I can't eat! The latest is I discovered that chickpeas are absolutely out - they make me really really sick. They were becoming a staple for me. Well, not anymore. It's getting to a point where I'm wondering what...
  12. Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it. I'll try my OBGYN since I need to go soon anyway. Thanks again.
  13. By the way I looked at the test again and it was a HBa1c and the numbers were 5.3 and 111. Those are averages, I understand? So is it possible that my blood sugar has been up and down and then produced a normal result as an average? Or should I just give up on this and pursue other directions? I'm sorry if I am being annoying ...
  14. I don't have a celiac dx, but have never been tested. You know, every single diagnosis that I have gotten for anything serious has taken literally years with many expensive tests (usually unnecessary, and I almost always had to request the necessary ones) and visits to different doctors who laughed at me and dismissed me and treated me like a hypochondriac...
  15. It's more that it's just what they're used to and it's something nice that they can do for me. If I cook for them or go out but don't eat anything, then they don't feel as if they are giving me anything anymore - even though I would rather just have their company. Thanks for directing me to your blog, it looks good.
  16. As far as new foods, the only thing that stands out to me as being really new is coconut. I have also been eating a lot more eggs. I should mention though that I used to get this nausea frequently and then it went away for several years. What I had was a non-fasting test of my blood sugar, which was 111. Diabetes runs in my family and I am prone to...
  17. Yes, but at this point I'm tentatively self-diagnosed so it's hard to be taken seriously. I will try to explain it though as you said. Exactly! I'm also avoiding dairy and I know I cannot tolerate onions and am allergic to chilies. Potatoes also seem to be a problem. I find plenty of foods to eat at home but when I go out it seems as if restaurants...
  18. I have relatives who want to take me out to restaurants and I find it so stressful right now that it's just not worth it, but I don't know how to explain that to them. When I go out, my choice seems to be between pain/discomfort or eating a very expensive plate of lettuce. Either way, there is lots of stress and I feel embarrassed asking the waiter to leave...
  19. I've been getting nausea daily since going gluten free a month ago. But I have lots of things going on, so who knows.
  20. I went gluten/casein free about a month ago and since then I have been experiencing frequent waves of nausea throughout the day. It seems to be getting worse. Also, I have lost 10 lbs in the past month, and the rate of weight loss seems to be increasing! This would be great if I were overweight, but I am not - I'm thin and have been underweight in the...
  21. I'm in pretty much the same position as you and I seem to have a problem with sweet potatoes. I'm guessing it's the starch. I also got very distended adn uncomfortable after eating some gluten free bread that had potato starch in it. It could be something else, but maybe you are having problems digesting starch right now? You could check the waffle mix...
  22. Thanks for the suggestion. I probably should get my iron levels checked, however, I had a litany of blood tests including iron several years ago when my symptoms were at their worst (as in, I needed a shower chair to make it through a shower - and I was only 17) and the tests all came back normal, according to the doctor, who pronounced me "perfectly healthy...
  23. When I was 12 I started to get bouts of extreme nausea which would alleviate if I sat down. They seem to have been triggered by a course of antibiotics I was taking at the time, but I still get them periodically and they have been more frequent since I started eating gluten-free. I've always found it puzzling because I don't see the connection between posture...
  24. When I first told the waitress I could not eat gluten, she suggested something with barley in it ... that's not what I ate, though. Thanks for reminding me to drink fluids. Yeah, it happens to me on a daily basis, sometimes a lot worse than this, but this is the worst it's been in a while. It has been a little better the last couple days...
  25. I suspect I may have gluten intolerance and I'm on Day 6 of being gluten-free and Day 4 of being dairy-free. Today I was pressured into going out to eat at a restaurant (would have preferred to avoid it because I don't want it to mess me up while I'm trying to figure out what's going on) and I had only some herbal tea and some vegan soup which the cook and...
