  1. It really depends on what kind of eater she is already- if she is a typical kid eater, who lives on pasta, chicken nuggets, and mac and cheese, you can find the substitutes for them to make an easy transition- Ian's chicken nuggets, Van's Waffle, Amy's rice mac and cheese (which I love by the way!!), but otherwise your basics are naturally gluten free- your...
  2. I am positive my gallbladder is not healthy! The whole reason I went to my doc 4-5 times over the last 3 years for tummy pain and fullness, was for symptoms of bloating and tenderness/ache under ribs. After finally being taken seriously and tested for a few different things, including an abdominal u/s, I had a hugely positive celiac panel- thought we'd figured...
  3. I have used Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega in the past, is this a good amount of omegas for me to add? I read someplace that those with celiac should have at least 1000mg of each DHA and EPA, but that is a big amount in a supplement. I took between 4000-5000 IU of D3 all winter, I have some multivitamins that I do not have trouble swallowing, they are liquid...
  4. My kids are nearly the same age, 4 and 7. They are not diagnosed with a gluten issue yet, they have their testing next week -- since I recently discovered I have celiac myself. Because of all this, I do think about their meals and what I need to change if they come back positive. My hubby and I eat gluten free together but do keep some staples for the kids...
  5. IMO, 2.5 years old is quite young to have significant damage on an endoscopy/biopsy. If he has positive blood work, I would stay gluten free and see what symptoms resolve. My kids get their blood work next week, and if it is positive I will not be doing biopsy- because I have celiac, we will just do gluten free as a family, for us there is really nothing...
  6. I agree-- wanted to say for me, I never get sick, maybe one cold/sinus thing a year, I have been very healthy. I actually have had two colds since going gluten free after my diagosis, and appear to have swollen glands a lot, feel like I am "coming down with something" and then don't. I feel like having my immune system in overdrive was protecting me from...
  7. I have been gluten-free for almost 6 weeks, while my GI symptoms have improved (my issues were bloating, gas, cramps) I have not regained any energy and am still fatigued. I have not lost a single pound, despite changing my entire diet and lifestyle- I am not eating gluten-free grains or packaged foods either, only whole foods with meats, veggies and fruits...
  8. My 7yo has keratosis pilaris and it is the one reason I am having her celiac tested. She did not have it as a baby or toddler, only developed in the last 18 months, my pediatrician said it was common and was not an issue, but after I discovered I had celiac, I am now suspicious of this condition she has only on her legs--- fronts of the shins, primarily on...
  9. I have only been gluten-free for 5 weeks but have had trouble with gluten-free products like tortillas and pizza dough-- both times we tried them felt off the next day, crampy and icky feeling, gassy/bloated. Tried Bob's Red Mill pizza dough over the weekend and ick, same thing-- I think for me, I have never had those grains before. Just difficult to digest...
  10. Yes!! I didn't have mono but a ruptured appendix with a 7 day ICU stay due to sepsis five years ago-- had to undergo open abdominal surgery and a difficult recovery. I also feel the extended antibiotics due to all of that contributed to gut issues. I of course had the IV medsin hospital but at least 4 weeks of antibiotics beyond that. I fully believe...
  11. There is probably no doubt that she has celiac- the fact that dad has it adds even another piece to the puzzle. It explains so many of her issues, while it is difficult to accept, try to realize that this is a positive- you can fix it, there is something you can do. That is a huge amount of weight loss, I would do what you can to get that appt sooner...
  12. Yes, my kids eat a normal diet, they do not have any symptoms of intolerances, they are both being tested next month for celiac because of me having it. I guess I was just thinking the irritation on her skin could be a clue that she has an issue with wheat or gluten. I am probably overthinking
  13. Rice bowls are all I order at Chipotle, and I was going to request they change gloves. Someone told me the cheese wasn't safe because they use hands to scoop it rather than utensils. I love Chipotle snd if that is the only place to get something on occasion I think I'll be happy
  14. So I have been gluten-free about 2 weeks, I am afraid to eat away from home which I asssume is pretty common. We eat at home 99% of the time but we enjoy taking the kids out for fun things on the weekend, and their favorite place is Olive Garden. Hubby and I love Chipotle for lunches when out for an outing. I know the majority of their food is safe, it is...
  15. It is possible to have an allergy to wheat, but not have celiac disease. Ae you having a food panel done?
  16. YES!! Go back to basics--- veggies, fruits, eggs, lean meats, rice. My changes have not been dramatic- they have been subtle things, that I notice like last night my hubby commented that I have not had many headaches lately- and it was then that I realized he was right, I don't think I have taken any pain reliever in at least a weeks time. I also found myself...
  17. Just wanted to comment on the corners of the mouth-- I have been getting that recurrently forever, every time I would be at my dentist he would say that is from moisture, like fungal from sleeping, etc and that I needed antifungal cream. Fine. It would go away and come back over and over. Then I found out a few weeks after the last time that happened, that...
  18. I'm sorry, I must have skimmed and not read closely enough!! Sorry!
  19. Sounds VERY possible! I would not take out gluten until she is blood tested for celiac-- many people by the way discover they have celiac because they have been diagnosed with other autoimmune diseases....having JRA means she is already more likely to have celiac disease. I would ask for a full celiac blood panel asap, before removing all gluten.
  20. Now that I know I am celiac, I have been keeping myself awake wondering if my kids are going to test positive. I have them an appt in one month for blood testing with the ped.GI-- so I just had something happen that made me go hmmmmmm.....my 4yo is playing with PlayDough- which of course is made with wheat, my 7yo plays with it daily at school....She has...
  21. I am newly diagnosed as well - positive blood panel about 6-8 weeks ago and then positive biopsy a couple weeks ago. Been gluten free about 10-12 days now and moving from the sad/denial/pity/why me/I can't do this/down and out ....into the acceptance and take control stage. Totally normal and healthy/natural what you are feeling, it will get better, it will...
  22. Very normal!! Hopefully better for you soon! I have been gluten-free 10 days now and am less irritable day by day, it takes time. Hang in there!
  23. I have only been gluten-free for 10 days so just trying to be sure I am not getting hidden sources of it without my knowledge. I don't know what is bothering me since I am not feeling that much different yet In other words I don't feel well yet to knowif the chocolate is bothering me. I know that some people can eat things that are gluten-free but are...
  24. Great, thanks!! That would explain why I do not have vitamin and nutrient deficiencies perhaps. I have had the stomach bloating and cramps for 2-3 years. I had what I thought was lactose/milk issues as a teen and young adult, when I found out I had celiac I thought perhaps those were my symptoms all along, but I'm 32 so I would have pretty severe damage...
