ARCHIVED Prometheus Labs Vs. Enterolab....
Jnkmnky replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks, Kaiti. I'm feeling the pressure because my friend on the east coast is married to a dr and he's giving her some attitude about testing their son who has had problems since birth. The child is currently on meds and she'd like to find an alternative dx that utilizes a dietary change rather than serious drugs. I'm trying to be delicate in my advice... -
ARCHIVED Prometheus Labs Vs. Enterolab....
Jnkmnky posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One's doing a blood test, one's doing a stool test *mainly*. A friend of mine wants her son tested and I gave her my extra kit from Prometheus. Then a friend in N.Y. was asking me where to get her son tested and I suggested Enterolab on the east coast. So I began looking them both up on line. And now I'm not sure if they're both created equal...you know... -

That's great. I'm sure it will be a lot less expensive buying from Target than Wholelotta$Foods. -

So, dh IS a component of celiac disease, right? Now, is it just one of the 200 symptoms of celiac disease? Or can you have dh independent of celiac disease? Can you have NO villi damage and still have dh? Would a positive test for celiac disease be a positive dx of your skin rash? Or do you need a separate test for dh? Can you have controlled celiac...

Lots of my friends homeschool. It's weird because we have a fantastic school. My older sons best friend is homeschooled. I would say that it's worked out well for them. I would say the pros are connected with your lifestyle. Relaxed scheduals, spur of the moment activities, outings.., individualizing the work to your child's needs-moving ahead quickly...

ARCHIVED Does Cd Permanently Stunt Growth?
Jnkmnky replied to carrielynn's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They say "may" and "can" because there is no proof yet. Cigarette companies got away with the "may cause cancer" wording for decades *they claimed there was no study that proved it* Not enough research money is devoted to celiac disease. Who wants to spend tons of money researching a disease that is ultimately, self-managed with a gluten free diet?... -

A pencil gripper helps with writing. They sell formed ones as well as spongey ones. My son's writing improved immediately with the harder, rubber grip on his pencil. Sometimes the issue is speed. Is the child writing fast enough to keep up with the other students in the class. -

BTW, it's fairly common for parents to hold their kids back a year and have them begin kindergarten at age 6. Some of those bigger lunks might be a year older than your son. In our kinder class, there is a segment on "differences". They talk about kids with freckles, glasses, hair color diffs, etc. You might want to ask your teacher if that lesson will... -

we all know lots of parents who feed their kids complete JUNK or children who will only eat 3 things and their kids could qualify as being malnourished, but they grow just fine. Yeah, well even complete JUNK is fortified with "essential vitamins and minerals" these days. And the kids who qualify as pathologically picky eaters usually don't persist... -

ARCHIVED I'm Getting Recalled!
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why do you need a positive test result to choose to stay on the diet? Is it to justify the cost? Did you feel better on the diet? Were you successful at being 100% gluten free for any extended amount of time? I don't think there are any benefits to being properly dx with Celiac. No one has to get a dx to go vegan. -
Put them on low with a lid on. The steam will cook the middles.

I don't believe you can make up for all you've lost if it's significant. My son will be small as a result of being starved the first three years of life. If this was something you could magically make up, there wouldn't be an emphasis on proper nutrition to begin with. Getting proper nutrition early on matters. If you were deprived of that nutrition due... -
I add a fruit flavored yogurt. Like black cherry to chocolate cake, or Lemon to vanilla.

Whole foods has great stuff. You can ask the manager to give you a gluten free tour. Tell him/her you're new to the gluten-free diet and need a tour to help you familiarize yourself with what's available to you. Also, check out Kinnikinnick's website. They have great donuts, bagels, bread, pizza crusts, and more that will make quick foods on the go easier...

If you have a whole foods near you, you can find gluten free broth. I use Pacific Brands broths. I've also got gluten free boullion cubes *from wf*.

Amy's mac and cheese is simple and good. I also like her Asian noodle dish. I throw in extra veggies because it IS strong flavored and it seems like a waste on such a small dish. Extra veggies help spread the flavor out a bit. The Kinnikinnick bread is good compared to a lot of what's out there. Try french toast. The lifestream buckwheat wildberry waffles...

We like the breads, bagels and donuts from kinnkinnick. Open Original Shared Link I usually have toast w/peanut butter. I hear the english muffins are good, too. The only product I haven't liked was the cinnamon raisin bagels. Just not tasty. If the price is scary, consider that one slice of toast with peanut butter is quite filling. I can't eat a...

The cherry almond muffins are great and the blueberry are equally as great. The white bread was better than Kinnikinnick in some ways (not big enough, and cut too thick for kid's sandwiches - made excellent french toast) But...Price sucks. The bread was $7.00 I just won't pay that much for bread. The muffins were $7.19 and I'll do that for weekend breakfast... -
