ARCHIVED Are Tootsie Roll's "dots" Gluten Free...?
Jnkmnky posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Their stupid web site tells you how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop but not if Dots contain gluten. -
ARCHIVED Emotional, Developmental Delays
Jnkmnky replied to carrielynn's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Waiting a year to enroll him in Kindergarten is a good idea. I don't know what your family situation is, but if you can wait a year, that's really the best thing to do. My son was gluten-free for 2 years by the time he entered kindergarten. He was not emotionally behind, he's very outgoing and friendly, and loved school. But he had cognitive and motor... -
ARCHIVED 11 Month Old Slowly Starving To Death
Jnkmnky replied to amicamom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tamara, Hi. My son is now 7. He was dx at three. Your daughter can catch up *with a lot of work* on your part. You have two years before kindergarten, so just begin now. I don't know what her delays are, but you can strengthen all aspects of her social and cognitive skills by getting busy today. Get her holding crayons, pencils, using scissors... -
ARCHIVED 11 Month Old Slowly Starving To Death
Jnkmnky replied to amicamom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was starving to death as well. Tests on young children are not reliable. I would go gluten free asap. There is no harm in a gluten free diet. Your children can suffer from irreversible learning disabilities as a result of nutritional deprivation at these young ages. My child is a year behind his age group. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it... -
That's all you can do. Good luck.

She's not being honest with you, but you're not being honest either. Trying to manipulate a situation where you can appear to 'find out' she's not on her medically necessary diet is also dishonest. So you know she's not on the diet. Who cares how you found out. Tell her you know, tell her who told. Isn't the fact that she's harming herself trumping all...

ARCHIVED 21mnth Old With Some Symptoms?
Jnkmnky replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
He's young enough that the testing for celiac disease might be a false negative. If you want to try the diet despite the neg test, remember you have to be 100% gluten free in order to see positive results. There's no cheating and seeing improvement. My son's personality did a 180 four days into the gluten-free diet. Testing in the future will be difficult... -
Well, NOTHING's perfect, but I think Outback has a good handle on the whole gluten free dining out thing. I've had them have to go get the separate menu and I don't think it's a big deal. I don't understand why some people feel they have to have a problem with some aspect of everything. I think it's better to commend Outback's efforts, and encourage other...

ARCHIVED Help! Looking For Kinnikinik!
Jnkmnky replied to laurenv2003's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had a very bad experience with "english muffins" a year ago. I'm reclutant to try them again. I may, though, have to give these Kinnikinnick's a try. -
ARCHIVED Possible Cd W/my Son?
Jnkmnky replied to Amanda76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since testing in a young child isn't always reliable, you could run the tests, then try him on the diet to see if there's an improvement in any of his symptoms. If you don't think the blood tests are necessary right now, you could just try the diet. You could expect to see positive dietary results in a short enought amount of time. You would have to be... -
ARCHIVED Meatloaf Ideas?
Jnkmnky replied to debbie-doodles's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm not a fancy cook. Here's my recipe: Chopped meat Lg onion chopped salt pepper garlic salt 1/2 cup Regular Prego Mix-mash-shape Bake for awhile Pour more prego on top bake a little longer till done It's very good. -
No problem. I didn't make buns with it, though. I made regular balls with it.

Quinoa is gross.

Chebe Sandwich Buns 1) Make the dough according to package directions. (You may want to add 1 tsp. of baking powder to allow the bun to rise more.) 2) Divide the dough in 4 equal pieces and make 4 "patties" by flattening each to about 1/2 inch high. Bake at 375 F for 35 minutes (longer if frozen). 3) When baked, slice like a bun and fill it with...

I know I mentioned it ... maybe it was me. I read it on the website. I don't know how much I added. Maybe a tsp? It made a difference, though! It was lighter and fluffier. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Shopping Online
Jnkmnky replied to ILOVEOMC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I second Jen on Kinnikinnick. Also, if you email them with questions, they get back to you and actually talk with you...not annoying form letters. They're really on top of things. Chebe is great, too. Order mixes, not pre-made products. Shipping ok on mixes, too high on frozen, pre-made orders. Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Enviro-kidz Cereal...my Kids Hate It
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Something I do on occassion, is make a lg batch of scrambled eggs at night, microwave bacon, put it all in the fridge, and in the morning, serve it re-heated in the microwave. It tastes fine. Not rubbery or anything. I do this because I'm not a morning person and I hate trying to cram all the work into 45 minutes before I HAVE to get the kids to school... -
ARCHIVED Family Troubles
Jnkmnky replied to PicturePerfect's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
How about another perspective?? I think you sound fearful and like you're withdrawing. Now don't get mad at me for saying this... but I think your family is looking out for best interests -- as they see them-- not as you see them. Celiac Disease has never kept our family from going out to eat, going cross country, vacationing, etc. We've never glutened... -

Heather, if you've got the time and energy, you could always contact R.O.C.K and begin a chapter in your area. -
ARCHIVED Enviro-kidz Cereal...my Kids Hate It
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We must have numb taste buds in this family because we like them. How about waffles? Also kinnikinnick makes some great donuts, great chocolate chip muffins and great bagels. I don't recommend the cinnamon raisin bagels. Yuck. -
ARCHIVED I Don't Have Celiac
Jnkmnky replied to redheadheather's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son's the only one with it in our family of 5. He thinks he's special because he has it and we don't. We've done the Celiac Walks run by R.O.C.K. for the past 4 years and make a big deal about it. He has lots of awareness shirts and loves wearing them. He tells people he can't eat gluten.... He thinks he's hot stuff. He has his own pantry. He brings...
