  1. I bring my own pot, spoon and colander when I travel. Bring along a bag of Tinkyada pasta. Teflon also releases toxic poisons. Isn't there a lawsuit against DuPont now?
  2. The best whipped cream is homemade. Then the kids get to lick the beaters. Rediwhip ruined that childhood event!
  3. Everyone seems to think Chinese food is going to be gluten free, I guess because of the rice??? It also sounds like a lot of people get glutened at PF Changs. I wouldn't eat chinese food out. You can bring your own food and eat that. We're always going out to eat. I pack my son's dinner and tell the waitress he has an auto-immune disease but we enjoy...
  4. I use the gluten free pantry mix, pamela's mix, or one of the mixes... I like to use the brownie mixes because I like the density of the 'cake'. The frosting spreads better on the brownie cake. I add a container of black cherry or strawberry yogurt to the mix for a flavorful hint of the fruit with the chocolate. Yum. Also, if you look on line, there are...
  5. My son drinks more than his brother and sister. I always think it's the rice breads, etc. Rice can cause some constipation problems, so I'm always giving him water to help in digesting and to keep the stuff ~moving along~. I've never been big with the juices as I think they promote tooth decay and add unnecessary calories. We drink water almost exclusively...
  6. skinnyboi- Here's a link done for a new poster that lists many products you can eat. Open Original Shared Link As I said above, you can scour the different message boards and find many good posts with helpful advice about what to eat.
  7. Seriously. The mesquite flour is really good. I use it in the cinnamon Chebe bread to really kick up the flavor. My whole family loves the Baked chicken and apples with mesquite. Here's my approximate recipe for that... marinate chicken in a bowl with: 2 cups apple juice/cider 1/4 cup honey 1tbsp oil shake in some garlic salt/pepper 2tbsp...
  8. I think so, and I'm only saying this from my personal perspective. My child had severe reflux, was miserable, awful diapers, bloody noses, never happy. I breastfed, but I think you can pass gluten through breastmilk. I've read that you Can't, but I'm sure you can from my personal experiences and anyway, they always change *absolutes* in medicine. My son...
  9. Shopping gets easier. Are you talking about baking breads? Because soups and stews are easy enough. Just throw a bunch of stuff in a pot and leave it for several hours. If you can find a gluten free boullion or broth at your local health food store, that's solved. I use Chebe bread mixes a lot and they're super easy. I always compare them to Bisquick...
  10. We used prometheus and it was 300 each. I think.. Anyway, it wasn't cheap. I could be quoting what was covered by my insurance. I can't remember.
  11. I've never, never, never been asked to Prove my son has celiac disease. He was dx at 3- He's been to preschool, kinder twice in two different schools, been admitted to the hospital once and had three different doctors in the past two years. *we moved twice in one year*. Our records were never caught up with us for first appts. No one questioned his dx...
  12. If you can't afford the testing, try the diet. Do you realize that the effects of a gluten free diet will not be noticable unless you are 100% gluten free? You can't cheat if you have this disease. You will not feel better. Some people feel better right away, some take months for the damage to heal and the "better" to sink in. There are many great...

    ARCHIVED Boston Market

Open Original Shared Link Laura, Here is the website for the Heritage. The great thing about Va. Beach was that the food stores generally carried Tinkyadas, Envirokidz cereals, Pacific Brands broths and more. I LOVED that about Va beach. There's NO WholeFoods, though. I have a young son who has Celiac and I needed food NOW when we arrived. I'd researched...
  15. You sound like a wonderful daughter. You should get yourself and your children tested since this genetic disease is in your family tree. There are over 200 symptoms associated w/Celiac and you can have any number of those symptoms or none at all. It's sneaky and elusive. The gene test would be a good idea so that you arm your children with info for the...

    ARCHIVED Boston Market

Laura, we just moved from that area you mention.... (I'm going to pretend that I'm right and you're living exactly near where I lived in Va.Beach) there's a health food store called, "The Heritage" down near the ocean....Just keep going east on Laskin *It's confusing because Laskin and Va. Beach Blvd do a merging thing as you head towards the oceanfront...

  18. Schedual an appt for a blood test for celiac asap. Then you can start the diet. But don't start the diet before testing. You can ruin the testing results. And yes, you sound like you could have Celiac. There are 200+ symptoms associated with C.D.
  19. I think very young children don't always test accurately. You may want to find out about that.
  20. You need to choose to be healthy. You have a serious disease that you are in charge of managing. There is no drug out there to assist you with this disease. It's up to you alone, to decide to commit to the gluten free diet and take control of your health. People here will help you find foods to make this easy.
  21. You may want to avoid dairy products for a few months while your villi heal. You're probably lactose intolerant right now. That may change as your villi heal. Rice milk is an excellent alternative. Soy causes problems in some people.
  22. Are you in the U.S.? There are many great stores you can go to to get the food you need. WholeFoods, Henry's, Boney's, Wild Oats, Trader Joe's...on-line ordering. Here are two sites with great bread products. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link All of their products are tasty and will help make your transition smooth and enjoyable...
  23. Are you on the gluten free diet yet?
  24. Maya- I'm neg for celiac disease as well, but was dx with endometriosis last year after a year+ of horrifying pain. All my pain went away the first month gluten free. I stayed gluten-free for four months then went back to gluten since ALL my pain was gone. I was good for about 2 months when all of a sudden the pain came back full force. I read the book...
  25. I made my son a book on my computer. It was really cute and had pictures of us and his school and his teachers and his friends and the park and us at restaurants and the dr of course. I think you should do it in your spare time yourself. It's very personal that way. I drew cartoonish pictures and wrote the story of his dx through his current daily activities...
