ARCHIVED Delicious Crunchy Sweet Snack
Jnkmnky replied to skbird's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, those look good. My kids are sick of regular trail mix. -
Open Original Shared Link I finally found this. It was in my old computer "favorites". There's a lot here I like, but I also liked the "Etiology of Auto-immune Disease" section. I think to understand Celiac Disease, a good understanding of Auto-Immune diseases is a great foundation to begin with. I hope you find this helpful. It also shows how hard...

I think accupuncture stimulates the central nervous system. That cannot help your body digest a protein it's genetically incapable of digesting. I'd be interested in hearing what an accupunturist would say. It's tricky because the person may just want your money. Definitly research this before you go.

Open Original Shared Link You only need to call companies not on Kaiti's list of safe companies. Here's her list in this group of posts.

Sorry, my son was dx when he was THREE, not four. He's seven now, so that was FOUR years ago.

I think the facts are that Celiac is a genetic, auto-immune disease. Currently, there is no cure for any auto-immune disease, and most auto-immune diseases such as Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scleroderma, M.S. and on and on have NO KNOWN trigger. But those with Celiac Disease are so fortunate because Celiac Disease is the only auto-immune disease with...

ARCHIVED Glutano Products
Jnkmnky replied to mandigirl1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
WELL, we like the chocolate ones and the blueberry ones. But not the apple ones. We put cream cheese on top of them... like a bagel that way. We also love the pizza flavored bread stick, but can't find them anymore. On line ordering from glutano is too expensive. You end up paying TWICE for the stuff when you add in shipping charges. With the pizza... -
Open Original Shared Link I was surprised the other poster said they have wheat in them!! I always think of hot dogs as safe at friend's bbqs. Now I'll have to check. But I didn't see any ingredient lists on their web site. If you find out for sure, could you let us know?

ARCHIVED More Ingredient Confusion
Jnkmnky replied to robbiesmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vydor, the sticker on the back policy is excellent! It's a great idea for the pre-school, kinder set. I wish I'd known about that. Our preschool was open to ideas like that because they had so many kids with peanut allergies and mine with C.D. I may go down there today and suggest that idea. -
ARCHIVED More Ingredient Confusion
Jnkmnky replied to robbiesmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I second Vydor's response. I have a celiac disease kid who's 7 now. He was dx @ 4 yrs old. I've done pre-school, kinder *2times, and going into first this fall. No one EVER quite understands this disease. There is so much food and drink coming in and out of classrooms these days. On a whim, parents will send in "special treats" for all the kids, a... -

ARCHIVED Is Wheat Free The Same As Gluten Free?
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When a product says "WHEAT FREE", they're talking to the people with wheat allergies, not the people with Celiac Disease. -
ARCHIVED Tramadol By Purepac
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That really stinks that you're allergic to those drugs. I don't know what I'd do. Nothing else works for me the way Vicodin does. I had virtually no pain relief from all the drugs they gave me EXCEPT the vicodin. After that experience, I began to understand the whole medical marijuana push. Whatever works for a person should be available. I hope... -

ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old Son Just Diagnosed With Celiac
Jnkmnky replied to robbiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi-- I think there might have been a problem with the bread that isn't typical. When I used it, I toasted it very, very lightly. I made my daughter a sandwich and she began complaining that it was too difficult to bite. The bread had been soft when I made the sandwich, but it became a hard, impossible to chew shingle as it cooled. I couldn't bite through... -
ARCHIVED Safe Companies/ingredients
Jnkmnky replied to anodyne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link Here is Kaiti's list of safe companies for you. If the "modified food starch" is listed on an item not from her list, you should call the company to check the source. It may contain gluten. Also, you might need to look for more natural foods. Instead of Instant mashed potatoes...try making them the "old fashioned way". ... -
ARCHIVED Tramadol By Purepac
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nini, I hope you're doing better. I was prescribed Tramadol last fall when rheumatologists still didn't realize my joint pain was from an allergic reaction. They thought I had R.A. despite despite tests showing there was no other indication for the dx other than excruciating, unrelenting pain. ANYWAY, I want to tell you my experience with Tramadol, even... -
ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old Son Just Diagnosed With Celiac
Jnkmnky replied to robbiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know some of the products are pricey, but the Kinnikinnicks are good. I used to make my son a half a sandwich rather than a whole one. That makes the bread last longer. You can suppliment a half sandwich with cheese sticks, apples w/peanut butter, yogurt, a smoothie....etc. The donuts from Kinnikinnick are really dense. My son used to eat a half a... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Concerned About All Ibs Publicity?
Jnkmnky replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It would be great if Celiac's could get a commercial on the airwaves asking people if they suffer from ....... *listing the symptoms of Ibs*..... and ask, "Have you been diagnosed with IBS? If you said said yes to any of these questions, you may have CELIAC DISEASE!" Celiac Disease is a self-managed, autoimmune disease that affects 1-133 American. See... -
Ianm, I think you are right, in a sense. The people you need to get behind the momentum push for C.D. are the food store owners, food manufacuters, and C.D. customers. Profit is always going to be the catalyst for action. Get the store owners interested in drawing in the C.D. customers, get the food companies interested in snagging the C.D. customers...

I've begun dialoguing with Albertson's recently about getting some standard gluten free products on their shelves. They've been so nice and receptive to the idea. They asked for a product list of preferred gluten free items that I had suggested earlier. Can you imagine seeing Kinnikinnick bread, Tinkyada pastas, Foods by George, Envirokidz cereals and...
