I was very surprised to discover that acid reflux could be a symptom of celiac. I have it and am taking Omneprazole. Just another digestive problem that I have and am actually happily surprised to find out it might be related to celiac. Hoping continuong with my gluten free diet will help. Going to go off the Omneprazole, and give some of the suggestions...

BTW I also take bone broth which has helped speed up the healing of my digestive system. -
ARCHIVED Red Meat Intolerance Related to Celiac?
BarryC replied to BarryC's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the info. I am just going to minimise my red meat consumption. It is pretty expensive now anyway. Sunday roast beef once a month yum! -
In the past I only got this occasionally, and it was hard to relate it to gluten. Lately, I always get it the day after I eat gluten. My apologies to true celiacs, but I dont do it on purpose. Yesterday it was dried ribs which were breaded in flour-I thought there was no flour. Last week it was pasta that was supposed to be gluten free but my daughter used...

ARCHIVED Red Meat Intolerance Related to Celiac?

Thanks. I also have acid reflux so if anything I have too much stomach acid. I am on omneprazole for that. Tried going off twice but each time it came back with a nengeance, so now I am on it regular. Just another digestive issue I have that made it so hard for me to figure out just what was going on until I decided it was gluten. -

ARCHIVED Red Meat Intolerance Related to Celiac?
BarryC posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have always had problems with red meat, mostly severe bloating a few hours after consumption. In fact, I was pretty sure I had IBS (red meat is a main trigger food) before I went gluten free. Now that I am gluten free for a few months and feeling much better overall, I have noticed I still have issues with red meat, maybe not quite as bad. I wonder if... -
I am aware that gluten sensitives are often also sensitive to casein in dairy. Is it possible to be sensitive to casein but not gluten? My daughter has a very mild sensitivity to gluten, but gets sick several hours after even a small amount of dairy. Ice cream, sour cream, etc are the worst offenders. She has tried lactose free to no avail. Thanks for your...

ARCHIVED Degrees of gluten sensitivity?
BarryC replied to BarryC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I must say I am very thankfull for all the positive reinforcement I am finding here. It has been a struggle to finally hit the gluten nail on the head. So many other culprits exist that have similarities to gluten sensitivity. It took over five years, but I finally exhausted all the possibilities. In a way it is actually a relief. Thank God my wife is very... -

Thanks Pocah. You mentioned an intestinal ulcer. I thought I had developed gastritis, or possibly an ulcer myself. This happened after a very 'beery' weekend a year ago, and the pain never left. But now that I have committed to going gluten free for several weeks, its thankfully going away! -
ARCHIVED Gluten sensitivity to full blown celiac?
BarryC replied to BarryC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ennis_TX Thanks so much for your reply. I am just not prepared to go through the medical procedures required to confirm I have it. I will just have to be satisfied in knowing that I feel better avoiding gluten. My wife recently began working with a gal that does have full blown, and did have the biopsy and everything, and now she is passing lots of... -
ARCHIVED Degrees of gluten sensitivity?

Matt It makes me feel better knowing I am not alone in this. Gluten sensitivity/celiac seems to effect women more than men too. Your experiance sounds a lot like mine. Besides trying to figure out what foods were causing my problems, I am getting older, and have developed mild arthritis. I was also diagnosed with adult A.D.D. many years ago. As you... -
ARCHIVED Degrees of gluten sensitivity?

Jmg, I am glad you were able to come to the realisation that the culprit was in fact gluten. For me its not so simple. IBS runs in the family, as do several food intolerances. Its just in the last while that I can finally reach the conclusion that for me its gluten. The fact that it is a delayed effect-several hours after, made it harder. Friday I had some... -
ARCHIVED Gluten sensitivity to full blown celiac?

Is it possible to go from a mild form of gluten sensitivity, to a more severe form, and finally full blown celiac? If so, that is one of the confusing aspects of this. I have been gluten free for several weeks, and almost feeling 'normal'. I had to go and ruin it with two pieces of KFC! That stuff is my cocaine! Sure enough, next two days I was sleepy... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Carbs?

Wow! Thanks for all the great info! -
If I understand it correctly, gluten sensitivity runs on a spectrum from mildly sensitive to full blown celiac. I seem to be able to tolerate a small amount on a daily basis ok, but after a few days of this it hits me. We have a lot of stuff in the freezer that contains gluten-fish and chips, frozen fried chicken, etc. Growing up poor I have a thing about...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Carbs?
BarryC posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have noticed there are a lot more gluten free options now where I live. My concern is that since I feel I am 'carb intolerant', they will still cause digestive issues and bloating. Anyone? -
Anybody else have this and think gluten is the cause? I actually take wellbutrin for it. I hope to get off that. Also quick temper, irritability, and sometimes alcohol cravings. Thanks!

Has anyone found that ditching the gluten helped speed up weight loss, combined with calories restriction and exercise? The info I am finding says that gluten inflames the intestines which can contribute to obesity. Also gluten containing carbs are a problem for some. Thanks!

It took me a long time to finally realise that I am gluten intolerant, thankfully not full blown celiac. I have had digestive issues all my life, and with a family history of colorectal cancer, am quite obsessed. Over the last few years I have gone from gluten intolerant, carbohydrate intoilerant, fat intolerant, IBS, GERD, gastritis, functional dyspepsia...

ARCHIVED Hunger has returned after three months gluten free
BarryC posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have always been overweight, although I am not a big eater. I thought I had a slow metabolism or hypothyroid, although it checked out OK. After three months of going gluten free (non celiac gluten sensitivity), suddenly I have the appetite of my teenage son! I Also, my normal intolerance to cold is disappearing, and I am getting occasional hot flashes... -
ARCHIVED Been glutened and need some help with a few answers

I have just gone from an awesome week, to feeling crappy. Its like I have a hangover or even the flu, but a voracious appetite. Have I caught the gluten flu-or am having withdrawel symptoms? After four months it seems late to be happenings, but I did have a couple minor accidental glutenings, so have really only been 100% glten free foe a couple weeks now...
