  1. My 55 year old male '9 month pregnancy' gluten belly is starting to recede a bit now that I am gluten free. I don't have too much fat, in fact I have visible abs, but I think the constant strain on the muscles has affected the tone. Has anyone had this problem? Any exercises or anything that might help! The Mom's might have some ideas! Thanks!
  2. Part of the reason why it took me so long to realise I am gluten sensitive is that some gluten containing foods have little to no adverse effect on me. Unlike full blown celiacs, I seem to be able to cope with a lot of stuff that does contain gluten, in small quantities anyway. Obvious stuff like bread, baked goods, etc, have the most effects. Fried chicken...
  3. Hi I don't have full blown celiac my doctor reassures me, but personally I feel I do have gluten sensitivity. Why else would I get so bloated after eating anything made with flour? Also, feel much better physically and mentally when going gluten free-my 'adult A.D.D'. goes away. I was trying to convince myself it was really 'carb sensitivity', as there...
  4. I am sure the regular users must get a bit tired of this, but I am still coming around to the fact I probably have non celiac gluten sensitivity. Here is some background: I was always a chubby kid, but home made bread and sandwhices were staples at my house. Even as an adult I had to have toast at least once a day, slathered in butter. In the past few...

    ARCHIVED Selenium?

I have been doing some research online about the possible connection between selenium, hypothyroid (slow metabolism) and celiac. This mineral is necessary for a normal metabolism, and if your intestines are compromised you might not be absorbing enough- contributing to a slow metabolism/inability to gain weight in people like myself (not celiac but definately...

    ARCHIVED Margarine

I have noticed this on two occasions now, that when I spend time with my inlaws-who use real butter not margerine-my overall soreness as well as indigestion after a meal improves. On googling this I discovered that margerine, or at least sunflower oil, contains omega 6 acids that are inflammatory in sensitive individuals. I would think being celiac or gluten...
  7. I am wondering how many of you have had a problem with margerine, and switched to butter, or cut both out altogether? I spent a week at my father in laws' and he uses butter only. My normal constant overall soreness lessened, as did my indigestion after a meal. I googled it and margerine contains omega 6 acids that cause inflammation in sensitive individuals...
  8. Yesterday I had some chicken that I was told by the hostess had no gluten in the coating. My wife told me later she checked the box and wheat flour was an ingrediant. I did fel a mild reaction but next day felt great. I wonder if my system has healed to the point it can fight off the gluten to a point? Not that I can go back of course.
  9. Maybe this is global warming? Where I live in western Camada we are experiancing warmer winters-which is good for us I guess. Spring comes sooner now. Take care all you folks in tornado country!
  10. Bonjour Maurice. Good to see a few Quebecois here.
  11. Hi Cathy Dont give up. Lots of help here. Where are you in Florida? One of my favorite states I have visited.

    ARCHIVED Rice

Potatoes, although gluten free of course, still bloat me up big time. I wonder if that is related to the compromised digestion from the gluten? My carbs consist of Glutino bread and rice now, but the abdominal distension is improving. Anyone else encounter this, and did you find that you were able to digest potatoes better after being gluten free for some...
  13. Even one small baked potato bloats me up a whole belt notch. Anything with potato-especially chips. I wonder what the gluten connection is? My carbs now consist only of Glutino bread and rice.
  14. I appreciate all the comments, I think its positive to respond to begin with. Everyone has a different personality. This is a journey and I am just starting out. BTW if you want to see some real snarky comments, I will show you my daughter Facebook page! Cheers!

    ARCHIVED Sports Injuries

I have noticed that my recovery time has improved, as I mentioned in an earlier post, and injuries are not as severe, although I still seem to get more bruising and muscle tears than my team mates. Last night I had to be carried off the ice with a popped hamstring, but today I am feeling much better than expected. And I am not covered in bruises like I expected...
  16. I feel your pain. I have spent lots of money on supplements and trained like an olympic athelete-to no avail. It wasnt until recently I started seeing a little progress, after being mostly gluten free for a couple months. I changed my workout a bit too-I am doing more weights and less cardio.
  17. My Dad and uncles all had similar symptoms to mine, they passed away long before we became knowledgeable about gluten intolerance. I think one of my sisters has it but she is in denial.
  18. I am part Irish and have some native American. The native part makes sense because I dont think they grew wheat. Lots of native people where I live and they have problems with diabetes and obesity.
  19. Hello Barry! I hope you are feeling better on the gluten-free diet. :~)

  20. Hi I am not too computer or 'blogging' literate, I go online a few minutes a day, every other day, when I am home , mostly to post something here. I do check my 'gmail' from my cell when I am on the road. Please explain how I can get an email notification if someone has replied to my post. Thanks and keep up the good work to everyone.
  21. Like warrior princess said, I am still a dabbler. I guess I am partly in denial, or maybe its the A.D.D. (I have been tested for and was diagnosed with it-I take wellbutrin for it). Its under control but not gone. I do post on different boards too, but I like to get different opinions. I hope you guys will agree with me though that it tough to finally...
  22. I have noticed I can drink wine and beer with no issues at all, apart from getting tipsy if I have too much. With ANY kind of hard liquor, however, I get bloated up even more for days after. Anyone else noticed this? Here is a link I found: Open Original Shared Link
  23. I have always been a sneezer, but less so recently since being gluten free. I have no idea what triggers it. Today I am inside and sneezing but no cold symptoms. I wonder if it was the piece of KFC I had last night, or maybe the milk? Anybody have any success getting tested for food alllergies?

    ARCHIVED Running

Hats off to all you marathon runners! Let us know how you did. One thing I have noticed is I can run longer and with less pain now, but I wont be entering any marathons. I still cant get that long lean runners look though-the big hard belly sticks out.
  25. I am pretty convinced that one of the things gluten does is make you more susceptable to alcoholism, which runs in my family. I think the damage it does to your intestines also magnifies the effects. Of course if you have problems with booze stay away.
