  1. Aw thanks! I have my degree in math and always fell asleep in English class, so this blogging words thing is new to me - I am glad you enjoyed it. I've heard the same - it's just the language barrier that scares me! I'll be packing some cards written in Thai that should help me around, but in general I'm definitely interested to see how well I'm able...
  2. Hey, thanks for the welcome (and the compliment on the tat)! I loved Ireland. I still need to do a blog post on Amsterdam, which I did last year - I would love to go back to both of those places. The Irish folks make me want to move there. And in 3 weeks I'll be in Thailand - can't wait. Although I fear gluten-free eating a little more in Asia, should be...
  3. Figured I should make an intro post and say hi to everyone. I am 26, was diagnosed with Celiac nearly three years ago after only four months (no thanks to my doctors, only to my pushing for it!) and am happy to feel good these days. I'm a rather crazy dog person and photographer based in Southern California - and I've jumped into the blogging world recently...
  4. haha! Yes, so true. The internet has allowed a new world to open up - those daytime tv shows have lost some of their viewership to things like mommy forums and scrapbooking message boards. Thanks! Glad to be here.
  5. I don't think a single forum exists out there with *no* drama - and if it does, it only has a single member. I run a forum, I get how difficult it can be to maintain the peace. I think this one has seemed quite nice and welcoming thus far, but I'm used to boards full of catty bored women. People need to do their best to type as though they were speaking...
  6. Well I am most definitely a makeup snob, admittedly. I would absolutely switch brands if necessary but I think it's something that each person should evaluate - for themselves - and not immediately jump to freak out. That's all. I'm glad you've found something that works for you - and others might find something different that works for them. Glad we can...
  7. Is it possible that you also have another allergy/intolerance as well? Are you still eating dairy? Try cutting dairy out and see how you feel - that's often a common problem for Celiacs as well... In the meantime - hugs! I know it's a crappy feeling and I hope you find a solution quickly!
  8. This bread is most definitely a treat for me - I love it when I'm craving something sweet and don't want to give in to the calories for a full on dessert.
  9. My opinion isn't always the popular one - but if you feel better gluten-free and don't have the means to easily get tested - then just live a gluten-free life. There's not anything I do differently than my gluten intolerant friends - we both live a gluten free lifestyle. And we both feel like crap when we eat gluten. Sure, it puts you at a higher risk for...
  10. Sometimes... people make me laugh. And not in a good way!
  11. Eep - it seems that there's only one right answer here which is "use only gluten-free makeup"? I shared my thoughts - and said "of course everyone is different" but I also don't think makeup is something that *most* Celiacs need to jump up and throw away right away. It's worth an investigation and some research, and everyone should be able to make an informed...
  12. heh. I just started blogging about my gluten-free journey and my second post was so relevant to this post. Yes, it gets better. A lot better. It's ok to feel sad and frustrated at first. But "we" (the celiac community at large) get it - we've been there. It's normal. hugs.
  13. I am kind of into my makeup and haven't had a problem with anything. Now, of course you want to keep an eye on the lipsticks especially as Gemini mentioned, I don't think it's urgent that you switch everything out right away. Many people use products with gluten in them topically just fine - I mean, I don't usually eat my eyeliner or anything and I doubt...
  14. Ok - whew! haha! I have to admit I come from many women based message boards where people are quite catty - so I was worried for a minute.
  15. Eep - did I say something offensive? LOL. Sorry... didn't realize that my calling a potential employer a potential jerk would raise eyebrows. I can play nice.
  16. LOL! I did make my dad get tested via blood test (it wasn't positive) but I also feel like the awareness is so lacking for Celiac that I end up telling everyone about it because I don't think anyone should suffer in silence any longer than they need to. If Celiac weren't grossly underdiagnosed, I'd probably let the doctors do their thing... but I can't so...
  17. I would have no problem requesting somewhere with a gluten free menu - I've found most people are really quite accommodating and understanding if they're not jerks to begin with. (And if they ARE jerks and huff and puff about the request - would you want to work for them anyway?)
  18. Bloating, nausea, pain (sometimes pain so bad I feel like I will pass out), and urgent need to use the restroom. If it's a LOT of gluten I've ingested unknowingly, I also get fatigued and foggy brained.
  19. Wow I don't even know how I would respond to my husband if he made a comment like that on making relationships work between celiac/non celiac folks. Maybe because I've dealt with his disease since high school (type 1 diabetes), it was an easy transition for him to accommodate me at home. He reads labels for me and goes out of his way to make sure I'm taken...
