ARCHIVED New To This And Still Not Sure If It Is Celiac Disease
Christine0125 replied to scaredblossom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that overwhelming feeling hits us all. It's so much easier than you'd think. I just fed my family corn/quinoa pasta on Thursday night and everyone loved it (and I have some picky eaters in the fam). You will find plenty of alternatives for your favorite foods should your biopsy come back showing celiac. -
I had optic neuritis after the birth of my son 6 years ago. I had an MRI and 2 follow on MRIs in the next 2 years with no signs of MS. The doctor indicated that 20% of the time there is no known reason and I likely fell into that category. I have just been diagnosed with celiac in the last 2 months and my gut tells me that it was the celiac that caused...

ARCHIVED Need To Vent, Having A Hard Time
Christine0125 replied to sharilee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed about the same time and I'm having my ups and downs as well and can totally relate. I feel a little over-consumed by the diet if that makes sense... seems my life is revolving around it right now. I'm hoping it just feels like the new normal after awhile. They say eventually the gluten filled foods won't appeal at all - wonder when that... -
ARCHIVED Need Help.

I get muscle aches but not joint pain but there are such a wide range of symptoms. Good luck getting answers. -

Kikoman has a gluten free soy I found at my local Wegmans. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy
Christine0125 replied to Christine0125's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had positive blood work in February so I went gluten free for about 2 months then ate some gluten for the 2 weeks leading up to the endoscopy. My situation may be a little different because I considered myself already diagnosed by the blood test - the GI doc even said he had no doubt it was celiac. I opted for the endoscopy to rule out anything else ... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Christine0125 replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made my family's favorite meatloaf gluten free for the first time (I am newly diagnosed) and it was just as good as original. I used a mix of ground beef and turkey, crushed gluten-free tortilla chips, some gluten-free bread crumbs, chili powder and a little salt and topped it with BBQ sauce. I am enjoying reading this thread... So many ideas! -
I finally had my endoscopy yesterday after positive bloodwork in Feb. I dread any type of medical procedure and can honestly say it was a piece of cake. Had a little back pain yesterday but that could have been tension. Just wanted to post for anyone awaiting an endoscopy. Good news in labs as well. I went gluten-free in feb after the positive bloodwork...

ARCHIVED Sensitivities/allergies
Christine0125 replied to marys2012's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Personally I am giving gluten free a shot for atleast 6 months before I look for possible allergies. I believe intolerances are found by elimination and not tests. Our insurance covered all my sons allergy testing last year but all plans are different so its hard to say. Call the 800kids number if the back of the card to inquire about coverage if you want... -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Scoped Again After 1 Year gluten-free?
Christine0125 replied to BabsV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'll be very interested to hear how the appt goes with U of M. I live about an hour from there and my husband works for the hospital. I had considered making an appt there but decided to see a local doctor and go there in the future if needed. My family is also participating in the Center for Celiac Research Run/Walk 5K on May 20th! -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
Christine0125 replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you have an endoscopy or just bloodwork? I know someone that had very low iron due to an ulcer that was found via the endoscopy. She also tested negative for celiac. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Morning Sickness Solutions
Christine0125 replied to jswog's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Starbright hard peppermint candy was my emergency morning sickness treatement. I kept as stash at work, in the car, in my purse. They work really well for a quick fix! I used sea bands as well and I think that helped some as well. -
ARCHIVED I Need To Complain!
Christine0125 replied to Littllemel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, but I'm in Maryland so potentially not too far depending on where you are. I've seen that there are some DC area support groups that look rather active. Open Original Shared Link If you're in NoVA some of these meetings may be very close to you. I'm sorry the doctors are not helping you but I'm curious to hear how your NP appt goes. My doc was convinced... -
ARCHIVED New! And Need Some Tips!
Christine0125 replied to SwtRandi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I find Crunchmaster crackers really good especially with cheese or peanut butter. For salad dressings I'm lucky to have a Wegmans near me and they label all their products very clearly on the front of the label. I really like their Italian and a Curry/Red Pepper dressing. I've enjoyed Udi's bread and the hamburger buns are delish! -
ARCHIVED Tgi Fridays gluten-free Menu
Christine0125 replied to AlexS's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Funny story! We went there when I was still undergoing testing. I forgot to ask the hostess so when the waiter came by I asked if they had a gluten free menu. He said no but they did have a list of allergens and apologized for not having a menu He then proceeded to tell me his daughter was gluten intolerant and we chatted a bit about the difficulty eating... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed With Celiac
Christine0125 replied to foofangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am fairly new too. I had a positive blood test in February. My doctor said an average of 6 months to heal. I'm currently back on gluten temporarily as I have an endoscopy scheduled next week but I was gluten free for about 2 months and while I noticed improvement in the nausea that was about it. I still was getting the muscle cramps, headaches and some... -

ARCHIVED Swift Premium Natural Guaranteed Tender Pork
Christine0125 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I picked it up quickly at the grocery store. Didn't read beyond the word "natural" until I got home and noticed that it is marinated in broth. Anyone happen to know if this is gluten free? I couldn't find any information on the company website concerning gluten. -
I think the general consensus is that first degree relatives should get tested. Having said that I decided not to get my kids (ages 6 & 8) tested for the time-being. They show no signs so I'm taking a watch and see approach.

ARCHIVED Chinese Restaurant Question?
Christine0125 replied to King-Danilo92's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Wow! I'm eating out Chinese this weekend with family and I had planned to order plain rice and steamed vegetables with no sauce and bring my own soy sauce to be safe. I wonder if there are actually more options for me! Anyone else had luck with particular dishes at a Chinese restaurant? I'm not a general tso's fan. -
ARCHIVED Coffee

Are you talking about instant coffee? I know I read recently that some of that was not gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Should I Continue With Gluten Challenge?
Christine0125 replied to Dove314's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe for me they are looking for a possible ulcer since my biggest symptom is nausea. It can also tell if reflux is an issue. my guess is my symptoms are all related to celiac but I am moving forward ith all the tests the doc ordered for my own piece of mind. The gluten challenge may not be worth it for you but because I can function normally although... -
ARCHIVED Should I Continue With Gluten Challenge?
Christine0125 replied to Dove314's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm probably going to differ from many of the replies but in my opinion it's worth it to get an accurate diagnosis. My doc recommended 2 weeks of a gluten challenge for the blood tests and that was enough to get positive results. I had also done a 1 month gluten-free trial prior to that. Personally I think I would have frequently second-guessed the diet... -
ARCHIVED Nature Valley Protein Bars

I'm new to this but as far as I can tell there are no gluten containing ingredients. Can anyone confirm? I'll be travelling this summer and would like some quick snacks. Thanks.
