  1. Anyone give their kids probiotics or other supplements to help? A little background: My almost 10 year old was diagnosed with celiac last December. The first few months were great gluten-free but lately she's been having tummy ups and downs (she's at the too embarrassed to share bathroom issues with me phase). I started her on gummy probiotics a few...
  2. My celiac daughter is having some fall allergy issues. My son (non-celiac) who has more severe allergies takes allegra chewables however I cannot find any concrete info on whether these are gluten free so I hesitate to give her those. I did read that Zyrtec chewables contain gluten. Any recommendation on a gluten free children's allergy medication? I...
  3. I like Udis but my family prefers canyon bakehouse. One idea is to try gluten-free wraps. My picky gluten-free daughter loves the wraps made by Toufayan. I have made her quesadillas and wrap sandwiches in them and she loves it. Rudi's wraps are also good but can be a bit brittle. I tried sandwich petals and thought they were jus ok... Can't remember...
  4. So great! The diet is working...
  5. Someone here will be able to help more but what I have heard is that even borderline positives typically indicates celiac. My 9 year old was recently diagnosed after borderline lab results. I would push for an endoscopy... Sunds scary but it's really a very easy procedure.
  6. What I have read is those products are a waste. We just make every attempt to avoid gluten 100%.
  7. Yay! Out of curiosity... Was your follow up endoscopy routine follow-up. I am approaching a year since diagnosis and wondering if another endoscopy will be recommended. Personally my symptoms have improved but not 100% and it makes me wonder how healed I am.
  8. I had the low amniotic fluid during pregnancy too. I wish my dentist hadn't passed off my complaints of canker sores as hormonal. Although I take most of the blame because I'm notorious for avoiding doctors so until I was dealing with daily nausea I didn't discuss my annoying symptoms with doctors earlier... Even then I had to ask for the celiac testing...
  9. Since celiac is considered a disability, it will also allow her to be covered if she should ever need accomodations in schools and such. I went ahead and put a 504 plan in place at school so that the communication is there with those that come in contact with her and to make sure accomodations are made so she doesn't have to do any art/science projects involving...
  10. Is the doctor willing to do a formal diagnosis of celiac without the endoscopy? If so, then I probably wouldn't bother with it even though it was very easy both for myself and daughter especially since she's already gluten-free and doing so well with it. My 9 year old was recently diagnosed (i was diagnosed about a year ago) and we did do the endoscopy...
  11. I've been putting off going dairy free since my celiac diagnosis early last year. gluten-free alone has improved my symptoms drastically but still have the occasional tummy upset, gas, headaches, etc. I have strong suspicion that issue is dairy but not sure why giving it up seems so much more daunting than going gluten-free to me. My biggest question is...
  12. I had good luck on the Splendor and hav high hopes for my upcoming trip on the Pride. The main dining room is much easier than the buffet but salads, fruits and such suited me well when the dining room was closer. This time I plan to take some buns for hamburgers and hot dogs si ce my 9 year old is newly diagnosed.
  13. I would consider it as a safety net when dining out or at social gatherings. I would not knowingly ingest gluten even with a drug.
  14. I emailed sandoz about a prescription I take and got a response within 24 hours. for my prescription they replied and said there are no gluten ingredients. The email to contact they regarding products is easy to find on the website.
  15. I would keep him on gluten and move forward with the biopsy in order to get the formal diagnosis. I made this decision with my daughter because my thought is that if treatment options become available in the future I wanted her diagnosed so she would be eligible. Our doctor indicated that a piece of bread of day was sufficient for the biopsy... i know they...
  16. Her endoscopy went well today and I feel good about choosing to do just that test. We'll go back in 2 weeks for the biopsy results but we have the green light to go gluten free now.
  17. I believe this is what I'll put on my Christmas list for my hubby to buy. Would love to get some recommendations on brands/features.
  18. Correct. She is not yet gluten free. She's not officially diagnosed but all indications point to celiac (family history, slow growth, recent stomach/emotional issues). We decided to move forward with just the endoscopy. Having her go through the prep-work of the colonoscopy right now would be a bit too emotional for her at this time I believe. If she...
  19. Yes, I feel really, really lucky to have so many great stores all within about an 8 mile radius. I asked at Giant Eagle today and they told me it's carried in their Pennsylvania and Columbus stores as a trial. I was lucky to talk with someone very knowledgable about gluten free. She indicated the trial was very positive so she expected the product to be...
  20. Yes, 2 Giant Eagles in Frederick and a MOMs. I have never heard of Roots. We are certainly not lacking in grocery stores yet I still can't find some items. I will look for the shrimp - sounds yummy.
  21. I'll have to check our Giant Eagle again. Maybe they were out the day I was there. My daughter will be going gluten free after her endoscopy on the 19th and I want to have some bread she will like on hand. I know we should stay away from the gluten-free processed food but I think some items will help her in transition. Mamaw - I'm in Frederick, MD...
  22. Rudi's Wraps - I tried them at a gluten free fair earlier this year but they have not hit any of my local grocery stores. We have 2 organic markets, Weis, Wegmans, Giant, Giant Eagle, Safeway and Wegmans in my town many of which carry other Rudi's products. Anyone know where to find them? Goodbye Gluten - read so many great reviews but haven't seen it...
  23. Did any of your children have a colonoscopy ordered to rule out Crohns? I've come to terms with my daughter getting an endoscopy but I think a colonoscopy would be a bit traumatic especially if it's likely unneccessary. She's 9. Background: I'm diagnosed celiac (bloodwork and endoscopy). She had recent bloodwork that showed borderline high ttg....
  24. I got the impression from both my doc (GI) and daughter's doc (Ped GI) that the scope is recommended to get a baseline for damage and to make sure there are no other issues present. I'm very confident my daughter has celiac but we're moving forward with the scope even though I have serious anxiety about it.
  25. Thanks for everyone's replies. An update: My daughter had her appt yesterday. All evidence points to celiac: ttg slightly elevated, slow growth (3rd percentile), recent tummy issues coupled with exhaustion and big mood swings. We have decided to move forward with an endoscopy following a long talk with the doctor. Bottom line, she needs it for an actual...
