  1. I think your daughter sounds like an extremly responsible young lady whom I would allow to carry her own medication, provided it was in its orginal container. I know all about the intestinal cramping. My son, whom wasn't even 7 yet, was in the ER multiple times with them. Hymox is AWESOME stuff it just stinks that it literally stops my son's intestinal...
  2. For us, but remember my son isn't typical in the pooping dept....it can be 48-36hrs before we see a truly cleaned out child and have the MtDew colored liquid stool. For *us* though this is what we have to do since we have *a lot* of motility issues.
  3. My son will never eat gluten again (if he ever gets to eat again) and we did Catholic school for two years in addition to preschool, but NEVER had to have a note from the mds. I find your comment very rude as if you are Celiac, why would you ever think you would be able to eat gluten again?
  4. I know Brach's Candies used to have a list on their website.
  5. When testing does not agree with clinical symptoms, in this case gluten-free = symptoms gone, why is formal testing needed IMHO.
  6. Hymox is an IBS/IBD medication, does she have either one of those or was it rx'd because of the severe cramping that she gets when gluten is injested? My son has this rx'd but he is an IBS, most likely IBD, kiddo but can not take it since he has severe dysmotility in his intestines. Hymox stops the intestinal spasms, and it WORKS but for us it literally...
  7. Who would have ever thought poop would bring such joy?
  8. Anything that he eats/drinks needs to be clear liquids per our GI and any other GI that I have read from other parents dealing with dysmotility of the intestines. I can't say how long it will take for the bowels to start moving because my son is not typical in that dept. I am guessing though maybe 6-8hrs?
  9. I think a treat from the ice cream truck is something no child should go without! It is a *treat* yes! Anything plain is what we usually stick with, nothing with "crunchies" or any other type of coating on them. All ice cream trucks usually have some sort of plain popsicle on board
  10. What is happening is that *some* of the stool is moving but not *all*. So think of a stick jammed in between two rocks. It starts raning and there is a a TON of water behind it but only *some* can move. This is what happens with the stool when a person is moderatly to severely constipated. Miralax is your friend, you can NOT overdose on it and you...
  11. If he is constipated, he isn't going to want to eat since he is "full" already. He may even vomit if he is constipated to the point things are at a stand-still.
  12. Hirschprungs or Gastric/Intestinal Dysmotilty, have they ever mentioned those?
  13. I have went thru 8 pediatricians for one reason or another, but MAINLY because they refuse refferals! You are a PEDIATRICIAN for Pete's sake, NOT a specialist that should ALWAYS be brought in if you are dealing with a symptom that is NOT a "typical" childhood thing. To get a refferal to our GI doc (we moved and had to get a new one) it took my son being...
  14. Has any other GI testing been done? Even a UGI with SBFT would be something to think about. An UGI with SBFT is a radiological test where the child drinks barium, they watch how the barium moves down the esphagus then they take x-rays until the barium reaches the end of the small bowel at regular intervals. This is a simple test which will show if there...
  15. I 100% agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is my thing, why NOT do something like this and look for the "zebras" instead of looking for a horse?
  16. IgE allergies are VERY real, just ask a parent whose child has FPIES. Don't jump to the horse when a zebra may be what you are looking for. Diarrhea CAN and IS a symptom of MANY different GI disorders, so WHY jump to a certain dx instead of looking at the ENTIRE picture? IgE testing is done by blood, NOT the prick testing that you hear often about. We...
  17. I would also look at FPIES, Gastroparesis/Delayed Gastric Emptying, or even dysmotility in the intestines in addition to the others. A *good* GI will look at the ENTIRE picture, not just one or two symptoms.
  18. I would just simply urge her to talk to her ped for a refferal to someone whom can help his anxiety issues. If she thinks it is food related, a refferal for an allergist whom is well versed in ALL severities of allergies. One whom will test for IgE allergies which are delayed allergies and can cause both GI symptoms and behaviorial.
  19. I agree, you need a new pedi GI ASAP. I would start fresh with the new GI and simply state that you are wanting a second opinion, nothing wrong with that! Allergy testing is something you would need to talk to your ped about getting a refferal for. I suggest a pedi allergist for this AND one whom will test for IgE reactions since those can and typically...
  20. We saw a gradual improvement over a YEAR. Now as soon as he injest gluten, it is within 12hrs we see the reaction starting.
  21. Wheat, anything that says wheat, is a BIG no-no here.
  22. We use liquid meds for my son since we can put them straight into his g-tube. We haven't found any med that bothers him however.
  23. My son has numerous GI issues which lead to the multiple scopes and other procedures thru the years. For us we are there by 6-8am (depending on how old he has been) and never out of there before 2p. Usually it has been closer to dinner time before we are headed out. He is usually in the PACU for 30min or more before we can even go see him. He just has...
  24. My son had his first scope 2 months shy of 2yrs of age. He will be 9 in November and has had 5 more. He is an old pro at it but honestly it never gets easier on me or my husband. Going gluten-free was EASY at that age though! SO much easier than going gluten-free as an older child or even adult when you KNOW what you are missing out on. Don't push the...
  25. When we did it, we went 100% gluten-free over night. DH and I cleaned out the cabinets AFTER I had went and gotten some gluten-free goodies to re-stock everything with.
