ARCHIVED I Hate My Pediatric Gi...
Sesara posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our appointment today could barely have gone worse. So, at the GI's office, we had a different nurse this time, who I had to correct that we had done naked weights on my son the past 2 visits, rather than clothed on the digital scale. Then when she measured him, he had somehow shrunk. Fine, whatever, different nurses, it's just frustrating because I know... -
ARCHIVED Vent/feeling Frustrated In General
Sesara replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks! I am actually hosting our weekly playgroup again, and I posted a message to everyone asking them to please remember that we are a gluten free household so only bring gluten free snacks, a list of what common cereals were fine, and the offer to provide snacks to anyone else's toddler as needed. I don't mind feeding other people's kids at all, so that... -
ARCHIVED My 2 Year Old's Endoscopy Is Next Week -Very Nervous
Sesara replied to AGH2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it very much depends on the child and the ability to get a diagnosis, as well as if there are other symptoms that could mean other problems, as to how many scopes they will need. My DS ended up with an inconclusive biopsy (although his bloodwork was also negative, and those two things often go hand in hand), so we may have to re-scope after some time... -
ARCHIVED Starting Preschool
Sesara replied to Cookieholic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey Cookieholic! I have nothing constructive to add, but I'm glad you found your way over here, and these parents know their stuff when it comes to Celiac and school. -
ARCHIVED Her Poop Turned Green
Sesara replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son never had any problems with lactose or dairy until the chronic diarrhea started around 18 months. Then, we could tell immediately because his stools would become pale or green depending on what and how much he had been eating. Since we went gluten free, we are trying to do at least 6-8 weeks of strict adherence to a gut healing protocol, depending... -
ARCHIVED Her Poop Turned Green
Sesara replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you noticed lactose issues with her ever? Dairy can sometimes cause green stools, and Celiac children are notorious for having lactose tolerance issues until they heal, and then it varies. -
ARCHIVED Vent/feeling Frustrated In General
Sesara replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the suggestions. Now that I know what's working, I know I just need to speak up louder...which is hard for me, but I will learn. I feel like we're having a victory today! He has only pooped solid for more than 24 hours, and he has grown probably close to an inch in the last week. And his belly is starting to look less swollen and normal. I... -
ARCHIVED Vent/feeling Frustrated In General
Sesara replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, my Celiac Plus panel is off. So now I can be 100% committed to being gluten free for my son's sake, and possibly my own. So at least that's out of the way. -
ARCHIVED Question About Test Results- And Help Deciphering Foot Pain!
Sesara replied to MitziG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know that other parents on here have talked about their kiddos getting diagnosed or looked at for JRA before finally getting a Celiac diagnosis, and it turned out that the gluten was causing painful joint inflammation very similar to RA. However, growing pains are very real. My husband would get them, always at night, usually in his feet, knees, hips... -
ARCHIVED Vent/feeling Frustrated In General
Sesara replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for the feedback! I am feeling a little more positive now. I actually glutened myself up good today, before I saw your suggestion, but I'm hoping that it's the last time I will do so before Monday, when I will hopefully be able to convince my new doctor to order the celiac panel for me, based on the fact that my son tested positive for DQ2.5. I... -
ARCHIVED Vent/feeling Frustrated In General
Sesara posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I feel like a bad parent today - we've been technically gluten free for almost 4 weeks, but since I am still occasionally eating gluten until I can get bloodwork (which will hopefully happen on Monday) and he is still comfort nursing 1-2x per day and getting colostrum, I'm sure that he gets a little "glutened" every time he nurses. His sleep has very off... -
ARCHIVED Well, We Got Our Prometheus Results...
Sesara replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, our meeting with the dietician was very reaffirming. She basically told me that I am doing everything right in the way I am feeding him and her only recommendation was that we do allergy testing to make sure that there aren't other issues exacerbating his tummy problems. I have my first appointment with my new PCP on Monday, and while I had hoped that... -
ARCHIVED Well, We Got Our Prometheus Results...
Sesara replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, enough that DH and I both need to get tested, really. On his side, ulcerative colitis and late onset type I and II diabetes, and on my side, Hashimoto's thyroid and I have a *supposedly* unrelated disease called achalasia that is thought to be an autoimmune triggered esophageal motility disorder that has also been linked to DQ2 genes. I have a dr's... -
ARCHIVED Exclusive Breastfeeding For 12 Months?
Sesara replied to allinyourhead's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Most of what I have read suggests that introducing solids while still breastfeeding confers protective benefits against Celiac disease, and that gluten is best introduced between 6-12 months. It does seem that it needs to be triggered by something else - there are a number of viruses suspected to be possible triggers of celiac that young children often get... -
ARCHIVED Well, We Got Our Prometheus Results...
Sesara posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Of course, all the serum tests were negative. I really wasn't psyching myself up for anything else, but it's still frustrating, since I feel certain this GI won't give us a diagnosis without positive results, given his "inconclusive" biopsy results. However, we did get the genetic results as well, and they at least make me feel like we're on the right... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Taking Juice Plus ?
Sesara replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We also use Animal Parade for my DS, and I truly believe that had I not been giving him that vitamin supplement, his bloodwork wouldn't have even been "normal" as in, just barely within range, when they did it. I started giving it to him when I read that iron-deficiency and magnesium deficiency could interfere with sleep, and he started sleeping better after... -
ARCHIVED What The Heck Is Going On?!
Sesara replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If it makes you feel any better, after the first week of gluten free, where we had horrendous temper tantrums, our son was much more even tempered too, but in the last few days, he has been a bit out of control too (for a 22 month old). However, I have also noticed a big improvement in his stools, which I have been waiting for desperately - they're not perfectly... -
ARCHIVED Helping My Husband - Cope With gluten-free

EPA and DHA are omega-3 fats that are particularly good at reducing inflammation in the body. They can be made fish free if necessary. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Starting To Feel Down :(
Sesara replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would also caution you to remember that some of those allergy/sensitivities that he scored highly on now may calm down some after he has been gluten free for a while. I agree with PP's, focus on simple balanced meals - there really are so many out there that you can make work for you, rather than trying to come up with substitutions for all the foods you... -
ARCHIVED Did Celiac Come Back?
Sesara replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Remember that in Celiac's, there is a much higher likelihood of developing other food allergies/sensitivities as well, unfortunately. Sometimes it is temporary while the gut is healing, an effect of your overstimulated immune system, and sometimes it is a permanent sensitivity. I would look at the overall ingredient list and see if there are any other top... -
ARCHIVED Helping My Husband - Cope With gluten-free
Sesara replied to Birdie19's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If his gut had damage, some of the bacteria, like yeast, could still be out of whack. My DS's tummy was very bloated even before we went gluten-free, but we will have been gluten-free for three weeks on Tuesday and it is still bloated, if less so. I am trying to combat this by giving him some gut healing supplements - primarily a probiotic and a EPA supplement... -
ARCHIVED So Now What?
Sesara replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am planning on making the switch, but in the meantime, I am waiting for our test results from Prometheus to come back and I am happy to meet with the dietician. I am in the process of switching pediatricians and am unsure until I meet with his new pedi as to whether or not I will need a referral from her to switch GI's. -
ARCHIVED Just Plain Confused
Sesara replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As I have learned the hard way, this is not a complete Celiac panel - it certainly doesn't look at EMA, though I'm still unclear as to what else is missing. It is probably complete to them because it is all the tests their lab can do; however, it does not look at all the antibody tests that help to detect Celiac. My son's IgA tests came back negative but... -
ARCHIVED Just Plain Confused
Sesara replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with Vincent completely. IF your son has dairy issues, they are either being caused by casein intolerance, which means any cow's milk is bad, or lactose intolerance, in which case, they suspect that there is damage to the intestinal villi. In that case, the tips of the villi, which normally manufacture the enzyme that digests lactose, are unable to... -
ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Sesara replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Prometheus labs is one of the best and most comprehensive Celiac antibody testers out there. Tell your doctor all they have to do is go to the Prometheus website and they have specific info for healthcare providers to order their testing panel. Open Original Shared Link
