  1. That's such a shame. Taking communion is such an important part of the Christian life. My church (Protestant) usually passes the trays down the aisles. Since I'm the only celiac there, we've decided that the easiest way would be for the church to provide me with the communion cups that everyone else uses and I will bring my own rice cracker in my purse to...
  2. It's in a box on the shelf at the local supermarkets here. Pretty inexpensive, too.
  3. I use Hodgson Mill brand on my yogurt every morning. Love it!
  4. Love yhe two kitties so cuyute!

  5. Just got my doctor to give me a copy of my latest blood work. It shows that my Folate level is high (>20 ng/mL * A). I confirmed with the lab that that was high because the doctor apparently didn't notice it. Is that important? My B12 level was 647 pg/mL and he didn't order any iron test. I'm newly diagnosed and had only been gluten-free for a week when...
  6. What would you guys recommend as the best way for a celiac to increase their intake of Vitamin D? My blood test showed I have a Vitamin D deficiency, even though I have been taking a multivitamin daily with 1000IU (250% daily value) and was drinking 3-4 glasses of milk before my diagnosis. I assume that means that my body isn't able to absorb the vitamin...
  7. Anyone know of a good multivitamin for celiacs that's available online? I've heard that liquid vitamins are absorbed better, especially for a new celiac patient who is still healing. I can't seem to find one that has all the vitamins and minerals, as well as iron and calcium. And should I be taking a probiotic as well? My doctor doesn't have a clue, so I...
  8. Is she taking any medications, either prescription or over-the-counter? Some of those have gluten in them. Does she feed your pets? Their food probably has gluten in it, too. Hope she's doing better. As hard as all this can be on us as adults, it's got to be even harder on a child.
  9. What kind of doctor normally manages the case of a celiac patient once they're diagnosed? The GI doctor who did my endoscopy said he doesn't do anything beyond handing out the diagnosis unless a repeat endoscopy or something like that is needed. And my family doctor doesn't have a clue. He told me that some celiacs can eat wheat and others can't. I have...
  10. Be careful about the tuna that ravenwoodglass mentioned. Most of the brands I looked at had wheat in them! It's because of the broth they're in, I think. Canned salmon seems to be better, but be sure to read the labels. Best of luck--there ARE options out there that are affordable
  11. I'm going through all my lipsticks to find out if there's anything I can still use. I received this reply from Revlon regarding their lip products: "Unfortunately, because of the way cosmetic ingredients are made and transported, we cannot guarantee that a product is gluten-free." Does anyone know which lip products are safe? I live in an area where...
  12. I'm newly diagnosed and trying to figure all this out without the help of a doctor. (Mine doesn't even know that celiacs can't eat any wheat, so I'll be searching for a new one :.) How common is lactose intolerance for newly diagnosed patients? Should I just get rid of the wheat for now and see if I feel ok without also getting rid of dairy? That would...
  13. My GI doctor said "You have celiac. Since your sister has it, ask her what to do next." Of course he doesn't even know my sister or if she's even remotely competent (she IS, luckily!). Then my family doctor told me that some celiac patients can eat wheat once in awhile and it doesn't bother them; I'd have to play around with it and see how much I can...
  14. I'm new to Celiac (officially diagnosed last week) and I'm wondering if there's any kind of card or doctor's note I could get that would allow me to take my own safe food into places where they ordinarily do not allow it and would expect you to buy their gluten-filled items. I'm thinking of places like concerts, theme parks, convention centers, perhaps airports...
  15. I was just officially diagnosed with celiac. (Blood tests and biopsy both positive, bloating and abdominal symptoms, sister and possibly other relatives with celiac.) My GI doctor does not do follow-up or advising, so I have several questions about how to become gluten free. --Is it ok to eat regular grocery store items that claim to be gluten free (things...
