  1. Hello, I havent written in here in a little while but I really need somewhere to vent. I feel like no one understands what i'm going through. I went to my doctor about 5 years years ago with an eating disorder and other problems such as no energy and no drive to do anything. I needed some help as I was a university student and stopped attending classes. My doctor put me on an anti depressant, citalopram (Celexa) 40 mg. I have only been diagnosed with celiac this past April. After being diagnosed I now know why I was experiencing all of these symptoms. I have wanted to go off my anti depressants for a couple of years now but I just found it difficult to do so. Finally this past February I decided I was going to stop them. I was not in any rush so I slowly decreased my doses and finally finished them about 2 weeks ago. I was doing very well while decreasing my doses. It wasn't until about the last week before coming off that I found myself to be emotional. But about a week after coming off them completely I find that I am extremely erritable! And so cranky! and if one thing goes wrong (even something that would seem so little to someone else) I cant handle it at all. I can't cope at all. I get terrible mood swings. Living with my boyfriend, I just take it out on him, which I hate and don't want to do.

I am not going back on the anti depressants. I am not depressed and dont even think that I was before I went on them. Everything I was experiencing was related to my untreated celiac. Its just that after being on them for so long I am having a hard time coming off It's just the mood swings that I hate!!

Has anyone else been on anti depressants and experience anything like this? Andd do you have any advice? or can anyone give me a time frame as to when you started to feel like yourself again?

I feel like no one around me knows what im going through or why I am feeling the way im feeling :(

  2. Hello, I am 25 years old and do not have any children. I like to have drinks with my friends on occasion. Vodka has always been my drink of choice. I know that some vodkas are distilled with wheat so I obviously stay away from them. Since i've been diagnosed I have been drinking corn distilled vodkas. I do have sensitivity to corn but was still able to drink this vodka. However I have noticed lately that I have been having symptoms similar to gluten or my sensitivities when drinking. So I am just trying to figure out what I can drink. I have a problem with gluten, potatos, and corn. What alcohol can I drink? Keep in mind that I live in a small town and options that may be available in a big city may not be available here.

I don't drink all of the time but when there is a party going on I already have enough problems not being able to eat any of the food! lol I would like to be able to have a couple drinks and relax!

Let me know what you think :)

  3. magnesium makes you constipated? I thought it was the other way around?

Don't be so sure about that. Remember - one of the number one issues with celiac disease is malabsorbtion. So not everything you eat will benefit you the way it does with folks with normal digestion.

That is why so many folks here take B12 under the tongue rather than swallowing it. B12 pills never helped me. I went my doctor and had him teach me to do a simple intramuscular injection (really painless) and found that this is the most effective way to get B12 into the system. I'm a big baby when it comes to needles and this is really not scary.

Same with Magnesium. When I took magnesium it was to stop heart palpitations but (previous to celiac dx) the magnesium would make me constipated for 4-5 weeks; a total nightmare. Now I do it by injection and it does the job with no side effects.

One thing I have been doing that helps quite a bit with Iron - because I do not want to do supplements just yet - is that I make a breakfast smoothie with hemp powder for protein, a bannana for tasted, some juice and a big fistful of frozen chopped spinach. Seems to really help with morning dreariness and gives a bit of energy boost by late morning.

  4. Yes I would love the recipe for the breakfast cookies please :)

For snacks can you have nuts? I find them really filling and something I don't need to cook (which I do enough of already with my multiple intolerances like you). If nuts are hard to digest you can try soaking them first, I find that helps a lot. For an afternoon pick-me-up I've been known to have a few squares of chocolate (dairy free, soy free chocolate) too. Rice crackers and hummus with a few veggies can be made into a light lunch as well.

I realize it is still summer (and may still be hot where you are), but you can make some pretty filling soups with rice noodles, chicken, veggies. Stews are good too if you are into that sort of thing. You can make up a bunch of either and take it for lunch.

For a good breakfast, if you don't like eggs, you can make up a batch of really hearty breakfast cookies. Let me know if you'd like a recipe. A couple of those with a glass of non-dairy milk or some tea and a bit of fruit and I'm good to go.

  5. I can't have gluten, corn, corn syrup, potato, tomato, dairy. I need some ideas for meals please! All I eat is meat, veggies, and fruit... And can't eat too much veggies as it makes me way too bloated. I am sinking in to a terrible depression bc I want to eat other things and I don't know what other choices I have. Everything I eat bloats me out to look like I'm pregnant. Which also makes me very irritable and cranky. Also, I don't like eggs. Breakfast and lunch are the hardest. Fruit is just not filling me enough. Ahh I am feeling very homeless today :(

Magnesium deficiency is something to consider very seriously.

Keep in mind that blood tests alone are, often, ineffectual at diagnosing magnesium deficiency as only 1% of our magnesium can be located in our blood...the rest is stored in our organs and tissues. The last information that I read indicated that over 50% of the population (closer to 2/3 actually) does not get the recommended magnesium necessary for daily functions. Also, magnesium is essential to over 300 processes in the human body...over 300.

Oh and...gluten intolerant individuals are at an even higher risk for magnesium deficiency.

I have already figured out that I have other food intollerances and have cut them out of my diet. I know that my iron cannot be low because I eat enough meat. It's the one thing I can have! lol. I also take other supplements but not magnesium. I will deff pick some up this week! thanks!

  7. Has anyone ever heard of this company or website: Open Original Shared Link Advertisement/about/ ?? I was told that the gluten product on here pretty much cures you of celiac. If you have a minute read about it on the website. It talks about studies that they have done and everything and there are testimonials. Also someone from this forum told me they have used it. But it seems too good to be true, I am hesitant. Can you guys give me your opinions please!

  8. Hello FruitEnthusiast, Just writing to let you know that you are not alone. I have the exact same problem and my mother says it has been since birth. I am now 25 years old. I have only been diagnosed this year and have been only on the orad to recovery for a little over 3 months. I am on a similar diet as you, I have eliminated a lot of foods and I am still constipated. I take RestoraLAX which I am pretty sure is the same as Malirax that smoe people on here take. That did help but lately I find that I have to up my dose to keep it working. Unfortunatly that is all I have to offer right now. I am in the same boat as you and really hope to fine a better solution

anybody else find themselves off of their food intolerances in daily life, but eating them in mass quantity in binges? I have posted about this before even but it's still happening to me, especially when I'm under more stress, I'll use food like a drug and stuff my face with things that will mess up my body and mind for 3 days afterwards. Then comes immediate regret, knowing how depressed and messed up my mind will be over the next 3 days... So why do I keep doing it? I've been gluten free for 2 years and my binges vary on what and when, but currently I have been going every 3 days for the last week, before that it was every 2 weeks, and before that maybe every month or two. The thing is that the food intolerances make me stress about everything/just living in general is hard, so I go to them again, and get stuck in weeks of just eating food intolerance stuff in mass quantity... Anybody else? Plus where do I post this/section who knows.

wow revenant... You are describing me to a T! This is so much like myself it is scary. I stay away from the gluten no matter what but I have other intolerances that I will stay off for a while and then binge. I find that I binge because I am feeling bloated and groose, and I binge on my comfort foods that I shouldn't eat. The mentality I seem to have is.. "well I am already bleated and feeling down anyway so I may as well eat these foods and enjoy them." And then I feel worse and eat more... its a viscious cycle. I completely understand. It's a mind over matter thing though I think. You need to convince yourself not to do it and try to remember how bad you felt last time. But just know that you are deff not alone in this one!

  10. Don't not eat! Not eating causes bloating as well. I know exactly what you are going through, I have the same problems. I am still trying to figure it out by eliminating foods. And as long as I stick to it I am starting to see a difference. I have eliminated gluten, dairy, corn (including anything that contains corn syrup), and most recently, nightshades (which was a big one! I don't know how I didnt notice this one before). I'm sure you have heard this one before but drink lots of water, even if you feel bloated. You need water to help digest everything. I also drink peppermint herbal tea. And I just recently read that ginger tea is good as well for digestive problems so I just picked some up but have not tried it yet.

  11. First I want to apoloize for all of my typos. Some of te keys on my keyboard arent workin so omefully you uys can understand me lol. So I just started to eliminate nitsades from my diet. owever, do you tink it is okay to eat bread tat as some potato starc in it?
