  1. McDonalds fries are indeed gluten free in Canada. They also have dedicated fryers in a different area so they don't make a mistake of putting the fries in the chicken nuggets oil. I have ate there quite a bit since I found out a few months ago. Its not so weird to order a meal with no bun either. They say it happens all the time. I know its a risk eating there if your sensitive but I have had no problems at all.

    so you order a burger without the bun? so does the beef not have any additives such as gluten in it?

  2. I am on the Canadian McDonalds website looking at the nutrition info, which is updated as of today. These are the ingredients contained in their french fries: Potatoes, canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, safflower oil, natural flavour (vegetable source),dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain colour), citric acid (preservative), dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming

    agent) and cooked in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with THBQ, citric

    acid and dimethypolysiloxane).

    I don't know all of these ingredients. Does this look gluten free?

  3. I was in the same situation. I went off it for about a month and I was starting to feel better, but my doctor wanted me to go back on gluten for a month to get the test. I decided to get the test done and I am happy that I did. It was kind of a relief when I found out that I was celiac because I finally had an answer to why i had all of these problems! And like someone else said, I get a tax break (I am in Canada) so I thought that was beneficial since gluten free foods and much more expensive.

  4. This is not a common sense issue. You would think it is but it's not. No one really suspects dish soap, and if gluten is in the dish soap, every day exposure WILL happen. I want people to be aware of this because I don't want anyone else to go through what I did because of dish soap.

    The "cross contamination" issue that caused me to become extremely ill and lose over 40 lbs nearly three years ago was from dish washing soap. I am not the only person in my household with celiac disease, and another family member became even more ill than I did. At the time we knew something was wrong, but couldn't figure out what it was other than it felt like we were being poisoned, but there was NO gluten in any of the foods we were eating. We cut our diet cut down to nothing but fresh bananas, olive oil, and fresh meat at one point, and STILL weight loss, classic digestive symptoms, and worse. I was losing weight at 3-5 lbs a week, nonstop. This went on for almost 3 months until I was skeletal. Then I started going through all of our non-food products. The brand of dish washing soap we had switched to 3 months prior, and had been using exclusively for all those three months, listed plant protein on the label - when I looked up the ingredients on the company's online website - I discovered that the plant protein was sourced from wheat gluten. I don't know if the company has since changed their product label to list "gluten" as an ingredient instead of "plant protein" but I sure as heck hope they have.

    After the dish soap and all dish scrubs were replaced, the weight loss stopped. This 3-month nightmare took me nearly a year to recover from, and frankly, based on the way I have to eat now to feel "normal," I would say I have not truly recovered.

    I wash ALL my dishes well and rinse in hot water until they are squeaky clean. There is never any visible soap residue on any of the dishes. Traces of the gluten were somehow getting into our food.

    The concern is VERY real.

  5. I use Ortho Tri-Cyclen -- my pharmacist (in the U.S.) checked and his information said they were listed as gluten-free. Not sure if it is a different manufacturing facility or not or if something has changed since I got the Rx (I can get a year's worth at a time through our insurance!) Is it the actual name-brand (Ortho) or one of the generics? I was on a generic when diagnosed but switched to the name brand (more expensive!) because the generics were all listed with the disclaimer you mentioned.

    That being said, it sounds like a CYA statement since they don't actually test for gluten. I have not had a problem with them.

    We are worried about you doing this thing!! It is NOT a good idea.

    Of course you are uncomfortable--I KNOW, I had C and D my whole life.

    A tablespoon of ground flaxseed meal or gluten-free psyllium husks in 16 Oz. of water twice a day will "get you going".

    Take probiotics. DRINK a LOT of water. Most of C is dehydration.

    Eat apples, broccoli, other fiber rich veggies.

    Those Miralax preps are used before a colonoscopy and they make you feel pretty lousy. I was sick for 2 days from it. And they upset your electrolytes and all the good flora in your gut and I just do not want you to feel any worse than you already do.

    Yes I deff have to get some flax! :)

  7. No one is trying to make you feel stupid for wanting to do this they are simply letting you know that it is a very dangerous thing for us to do.

    If you haven't been gluten-free very long please know your body will get more regular once gluten is gone from your diet. Some of us, myself included need to drop other things, for me it is soy as that binds me up for days.

    If you can increase your water intake and add more fruits and veggies that is a better way to cleanse. In oriental medicine sweet potatoes are used to regulate the bowel when either C or D is present.

    I had a very severe reaction to a clean out before a colonoscopy using the items mentioned in the previous post so if you do chose to do it make sure that you have someone there to help get you medical attention if you should react badly.

  8. I guess, if you feel you need to do this, you could just do the standard colonoscopy prep. Its cheap and obviously works or they couldn't do a colonoscopy. Just don't do it repeatedly. that is dangerous and damaging.

    This is the one my hub was given and it seemed to work well.

    COLONOSCOPY PREP 1

    MIRALAX PREP

    Purchase over the counter:

     4 Dulcolax or Bisacodyl 5mg laxative tablets

     Miralax 238gm bottle

     64 oz bottle of Gatorade or Propel Fitness Water (no red, blue or purple)

    5-7 days before the procedure stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, Coumadin, Plavix, Celebrex or any other blood thinning medication. If you are on blood thinning medication make sure you check with your cardiologist or prescribing physician before discontinuing the medication. Also discontinue iron or multi-vitamins that contain iron.

    3 days before the procedure stop eating any raw vegetables or vegetables containing seeds, corn, popcorn, nuts, seeds and stop any fiber supplements you are taking until after the procedure.

    The day before the procedure you will be on a clear liquid diet the entire day. See instructions for Clear Liquid Diet.

     At 3:00pm take 4 Dulcolax/Bisacodyl tablets.

     At 5:00pm mix 64 oz bottle of Gatorade or Propel with the bottle of Miralax. Drink this within a 2-hour period. If you become nauseated or begin vomiting while drinking the solution, slow down and when the nausea subsides begin drinking the solution again.

     Continue the liquid diet until midnight and then have nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

Hello, I called the Canadian company for Tri-cyclen and was told that they do not put gluten in their pills but they cannot garuntee that they are gluten free because there may or may not be cross-contamination during manufacturing. Just wondering if anyone takes these pills and if they are okay? I have been taking them for 10 years but have been recently diagnosed with celiac. However, I don't get extremely sick when I am glutened so I don't know if these are okay or not.

  10. Short answer: Yes, you can eat them.

    There is no evidence that gluten in the food eaten by an animal--any animal, not just chickens--finds its way into the animal's body as part of the meat. Contamination is possible if the digestive tract is punctured during slaughter and the meat is not properly washed after slaughter, but that scenario has much wider issues (E. Coli for one).

  11. Everyone makes mistakes, hon. Don't beat yourself up over it. I'll spare you the lecture about why you should never do this, because you already know.

    Just start again today!

    And next time, just get the fries if you can't help yourself from eating fast food crap. Lots of people on here say they can eat those.

    Seriously, though...I have to tease you, just a little and see if you can smile about all this....but if I were drunk and going to be that stupid and make myself sick, I would have chosen something waaaaay better than a MickeyD's burger :lol:

    Maybe you should start carrying snacks in your bag?

    hahah I know... Mcdonalds, of all things!
