  1. I'm bad at waiting. really. I thought since I am going a little nutsy about finding out if I'm celiac, I would buy another Biocard home test and retest my IgA tTg to double check if that faint line really was a positive test. Maybe I somehow did it wrong... maybe I second guess myself too much. Anyway, the store was out of tests! they only had them for...
  2. I've heard that same thing about Northern European descent. it seems supported by that like kareng provided. Interesting... I'm Canadian with a German and Ukranian/Polish background. My family all came over in the early 1900's. I haven't had genetic testing done but there is celiac on the Ukranian/Polish side of the family. Nicole S
  3. I'm waiting on my test results too (in Calgary) and my doctor apparently is not forcing the issue of a biopsy either. As far as I can tell, it is just a visual confirmation of the damage being done (and proof of damage is in the blood tests). It doesn't seem to be a requirement of being diagnosed up here... but I'm new too and could be wrong. And from...
  4. i would go gluten-free with your daughter just to make it easier to feed your family. That way no one is getting food that the other can't have and no one will feel they are missing out on something. From what I understand, it is difficult to diagnose young children with celiac so you might as well avoid doing undetectable intestinal harm to your little...
  5. I've been lurking around the forum and I gotta say that the idea of being "glutened" after being gluten-free scares me. I'm still waiting for my blood tests, so I'm not even 100% sure I'm celiac yet (just a positive IgA tTg home test), but the symptoms I do have don't seem as bad as the symptoms many people have. Yes, I get bloated, often to the point...
  6. I'm in the process of being tested, and am far from being knowledgable in this area, but your son sounds a bit like me as a kid. I remember having stomach aches even then, after many meals, and the doctor saying I was one of those people who just got a stomach ache after they ate... Constipation happened a lot and I remember crying on the toilet when things...
  7. I had my celiac screen test yesterday and I am soooo impatiently waiting for the results! I had a positive tTg home test so I'm pretty sure I have it but I want confirming positive blood tests before I drop so many of my favourite foods! The celiac screen up here in Alberta is for tTg IgA and EMA and from what I understand, if I get positives on that...

    Could It Be Celiac?

Thanks, Katie. I appreciate your support. Nicole
  9. Health Canada and the Canadian Celiac Association both endorse the Ani Biotech Biocard Celiac test (by 2G Pharma Inc.). It's the test that I took and got a positive tTg test on (I only squeezed out about 75% of the blood needed for the test too). I have also taken a blood test (in a lab) but I haven't got my results back yet so i can't personnally attest...

    ARCHIVED A Journal

    Thanks
  12. I had ITP years ago and just searched the forum to see if it was connected to celiac... I guess it might be. Huh. I had a bad case of ITP, I remember my platelets were at 90, not 90K, just 90. lol I almost needed a blood transfusion. Steroids couldn't regulate my blood so they took my spleen out; my white blood cells aren't able to do much any more. I...
  13. I've suspected for a few years that I could be celiac. I wasn't having crippling pains or running to the toilet but I often get a stomach ache about 20 minutes after I ate, I always take extra fibre or things don't move, and a few days a week I get painful bloating in the evenings. It's been like that since I was a child. About 30 years ago, I remember...
  14. *hug* I would reccommend that you get as much sleep as possible, especially while you just have one child as your focus. When a body gets run down, I found nursing became harder... everything was harder and a tired mom doesn't have the mental stamina to take it. Have you tried bringing baby to your bed if that's something you are comfortable with? I...

    ARCHIVED A Journal

I was wondering where, or if, I could stat a journal about my celiac tests, experiences and thoughts in this forum? I would set it up so my "journal" is a new topic and then just keep adding information on as replies; anyone would be welcome to read it and comment. Is this something I can do on this forum, and if so where? Thanks. Nicole
  16. I'm new to the board as well as new to the celiac world... sort of. It seems as though celiac sufferers have a hard time getting a definitive diagnosis and I'm in that category now. I took an at home test (Biocard), which tests tTg IgA I believe, and got a (weak) positive result which means positive and that I most likely have celiac because it tests for...
  17. I am a newbie who is in the process of getting "officially" tested after a positive home test, and I wanted to say thanks! I've had that rash on my stomach and ribs for months but I had no idea it was dh and was an indicator of celiac! Huh, that was a real light bulb moment! lol Thanks for educating me. Nicole
  18. I just took the Ani Biotech Biocard Celiac test (by 2G Pharma Inc.) this weekend and it gave me a positive result too ... I just joined the forum to ask about this. I've got a doctor appointment tomorrow and then (probably) blood tests early next week so I imagine that I'll know how accurate it is by... July? I'm in Canada. The company is out of Finland...
