ARCHIVED What Next For My Baby Now That I'm Celiac +?
jlaw replied to megsybeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Megan, I have been watching my son closely actually too, but he's 4, so completely different issues involved. So i'm sorry, but I have no idea about babies. But you don't need your doctor's permission or an official diagnosis if you are happy enough yourself that GI symptoms and +ve blood work mean celiac for you. Especially in light of possible consequences... -
ARCHIVED Anecdotal But Interesting: Doctor Reviewed My Rash
jlaw replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Nice to have little glimmers of what should actually be normal! -
so not the only one! Two nights ago I could feel myself clawing off skin and scabs - still wasn't enough! Unfortunately, this is also a strong characteristic of scabies. One of the first things my derm asked me - 'was it worse at night?' When I said yes, he immediately diagnosed scabies. So watch out for that question on the 16th!

L.J, I will never have anything worthy to add after spuirming has been on - she looks after us well and never seems to tire of having to repeat herself. A real treasure for all of us! But I did just want to say 'welcome' and add my hug ((((L.J))) All the literature seems to indicate that mucosal blisters (i.e the ones in your mouth) are rare, and I'm sorry...

thanks Kmag - that's interesting because most of them are about finger size! One or two are bigger. I just never supposed I could exert that much pressure scratching but it does get itchy enough! Thanks again

Thanks :-) I have purple scars as well and these are definitely different. Unfortunately 'running this by my doctor' is not very straight forward where I live in India :-( To the point where I am considering moving back home, especially if my suspicion about my son's possible DH prove true... So thanks for the vit K deficiency info. Gives me a lead!

Hi all, I'm noticing some unexplained bruising on my legs particularly where my DH is badly flared. Does anybody else have this? I'm not on dapsone... Appreciate any insight :-)

ARCHIVED Please Give An Opinion On My Picture
jlaw replied to smpalesh's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
it's possible, but lots of things could be possible! Can you give us some more information? When does it come? How long does it stay? What does it respond to? Does it come anywhere else? How long have you had it? Have you seen a derm? -
thanks... *sigh* Not that it was inevitable, but of course my kids would be somewhat in the celiac firing line! I just wish they would be spared..

Hi all, I'm keeping an eye on my 5 year old son. He has skin coloured bumpy elbows which sometimes scab, but are sometimes just clean bumps, too! He also has a rash that comes and goes on the back of his neck. I'm just watching it for now - the areas are classic DH spots, but he doesn't seem to be itchy on his elbows, just his neck. And it is presenting differently...

ARCHIVED Health/beauty Products
jlaw replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Sara, I have thought it's about time I checked this out too. But I've not been able to find a list, either... Will keep searching -
Welcome - it is really hard when it comes to family. But one of the factors in developing coeliac disease is genetic predispostion + a gluten filled diet. If your son has only a wheat intolerance now, by limiting his wheat intake you could actually prevent him from getting full blown coeliac disease. I'm speaking from personal experience - my mum looked after...

ARCHIVED Any Help Appreciated..
jlaw replied to Jodster72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is the best way I have heard it explained! So hard for me to get my head around why I need to be so careful with my own CC issues, so how can i expect my friends to undertand? Thankfully, they're amazing anyway, but this is a great visual picture. Thank you. -
Oh I'm sorry Cindylou, I've been following your posts and know this must be disappointing. What's your next step?

ARCHIVED Random Sliver Like Spot In Finger
jlaw replied to birdie22's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Birdie, My hunch is that I'd be suspicious of other things before DH. A few of the characteritics don't seem to be prominent features, but there's no such thing as normal DH so who knows! Probably the most contra-indicitive seems to me to be the 'only one at a time' thing. DH lesions can come in groups or individually, but usually you would... -
Thanks everyone, this has been so good and helpful. In the end, I think pricklypear is right - I have to get serious about the whole CC thing. It's been hard up until now to get my head around how sensitive I could be - one crumb??? Just seems impossible. But My skin is as bad as it ever was - and now with scalp involvement. So thanks all for your help, and...

thanks everyone. I had not even heard of carrageenan before!? Will be on the lookout. Prickly - thanks for the reminder that salt is not automatically iodised. Although all salt here definitely eems to be! And thanks for the link to page 9. I've opened the thyca document before but got immediately overwhelmed and closed it! So this is quite restrictive...
-
Squirming, I am actually quite thankful for the description of your DH and it's locations! I'm sorry it's so awful - and you sound like we could be DH twins. The scalp is a new addition for me as are the backs of my hands and tops of my feet.

Hi Friends, I'm realising I'm in a bit of denial writing this! In fact, I'm even hoping that if anybody replies, I can put their answer away for future reference!! So I went completely gluten-free since my endoscopy early October, and within about 2 weeks I noticed some good improvement. But now....it's pretty much as bad as it ever was.I'm not sure if...

ARCHIVED Weird Reaction At Biopsy Location
jlaw replied to cindylou7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yep, this is totally me too. I have 3 seperate biopsy sites in close proximity, and now they blend in nicely with my sturdier blisters! My theory is that as the blood supply is increased to facilitate the healing process, so therefore are the Iga deposits increased. (Although as pricklypear says, it could be a number of things.) Let us know how you go with... -
So I'm about a month into the whole gluten-free thing. Actually I think it's a month today! I'm prepared for this to take a good while. But I'm thinking, while my skin is still quite bad and since my gastro symptoms were never very acute, how can I even tell if I'm being cc'ed? For those of you who have been doing this longer, do your gastro symptoms become...

ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformis
jlaw replied to finallynotthatitchy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi, I also should not be here, but wanted to say I am listening and will be back. squirming - so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you... -
Hi Christine, I am an Australian living cross culturally in india, and am newly diagnosed, so definitely don't have all the answers! But I do want to encourage you as you think through this. A lot of this will depend on which countries in particular you are visiting, but the main advantage of less developed countries is that the food is generally a lot...
