  1. Sorry to hear you are in distress. What I can recommend to you is to read the book Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall. It focuses on diet designed for total digestive healing. The diet is called the specific carbohydrate diet. It is gluten free and also eliminates all other grains. I have just started the diet myself. You can access a lot...
  2. Pizza is one of the foods that both my son and I missed. We now use the pizza crusts made by Kinninnick, they taste great. Just add your toppings and it is cooked in about 15 minutes. My husband will even eat some. Hope this helps.
  3. I have been gluten free for just over a year now and still don't feel that great. I have recently read two different books dealing with the digestive system and the damage that can be done to it. The books describe how these problems also affect other organs such as the liver. Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall deals with celiac disease. ...
  4. Today is my first day on the scd diet. I hope that it helps me feel better. I have been tired and depressed and it sounds like my digestive track is to blame. It will be a long journey, but hopefully worthwhile.
  5. Thanks for the info. I'm going to be in Regina in October to see the Stones and I might try out those places.
  6. I find this discussion interesting. I just finished reading the book and it makes a lot of sense. My brother has been on the diet for about a month. I just don't know if I could follow such a restricted diet.
  7. Welcome to the forum. I have found it very helpful and supportive since being diagnosed almost a year ago. I live near Winnipeg. We have a great store in Winnipeg called Lorenzos. The owner has celiac and the entire store is gluten free. They sell prepackaged products as well as fresh baking. You can even special order birthday cakes.
  8. Thanks for that thorough reply Kim. A couple of people have mentioned a relationship between casein and rashes. I have not heard about this before. Does anyone have any information?
  9. I understand your frustration. I am currently dealing with being glutened, I'm not sure where or how but it has happended. My skin is so itchy and my head also hurts. I also dealt with the gastro problems. Sometimes have celiac disease just sucks and we have to live with it, although sometimes it is just so difficult. I hope you feel better soon
  10. Thanks everyone for your input. I guess I need to try to determine other things that could be causing the rash in addition to possibly gluten.
  11. Last Friday I think I had a bad gluten experience. I went out for lunch with some coworkers, and I thought I ate safely. Within an hour of returning to work I felt dizzy and then I quickly ran to the washroom to vomit. Since them I have had itchy skin on my arms, I even wake up from the itchiness. I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks!
  12. Hi My son and I have been gluten-free since August and we're both not feeling that great. He just spent the last three days in bed. The intestinal problems are much better but the fatigue is overwhelming sometimes. I have been taking a multivitamin and fiber capsules for the past couple of weeks. I have read so many other posts and I realize that we...
  13. During the Christmas holidays I will be travelling to Ixtapa with my husband and some other relatives. I am nervous about what I am going to eat. I am planning to bring some food with me, so I won't go hungry. Does anyone have any advice. Thanks
  14. I need some help. A group of relatives is going to Ixtapa at Christmas and really wanted me and my husband to go. My relatives realize the difficulty I am up against. I need some suggestions on how to solve my food problems.
  15. It is amazing the places where you find gluten. I never thought that my favorite hair spray would have wheat starch in it, but it does. You have to read every label to be sure. This disease can be frustrating.
  16. Sometimes it just sucks having celiac disease. I realize that it is only food that I can't have but it is so difficult sometimes. You watch people eat all the foods you used to eat and you wish you could leap across the table and grab the food. If I could just make it through a day without feeling exhausted it would be wonderful. Luckily I have a very...
  17. Both my son and myself have had the rapid or irregular heart beats. I assumed it had something to do with the celiac. We have had heart tests and everything was fine. It's nice to know that other people have had these same symptoms.
  18. Hi I am new to this disease as well. Both my son and I were diagnosed with it in June. We thought we were eating gluten free until we met with a dietician, she really helped us. We have been gluten-free since August 4, although I think I've been glutened in some restaurants. I also had a colonoscopy to rule out any other problems. I have been doing...
  19. It's great when friends understand the diet you have to follow. My friends are super, they always ask questions before they serve food regarding how to keep it gluten-free if possible. It makes this disease easier to deal with when you have a lot of support.
  20. Hi Kevin I have been recently diagnosed along with my 16 year old son. There are a lot of gluten-free choices available which help to make dealing with this disease easier. The hard part is going to restaurants or just out with people, you have to be careful not to be glutened. I have found this forum an excellent place to find out information. My son...
  21. Hi I am from Manitoba and both my son and I have been recently diagnosed with celiac. There are some great stores in Winnipeg that sell gluten free products: Lorenzo's on St. Mary's Road and Meyer's Drugs on William. I have recently joined the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Celiac Association. They publish and newsletters and have meetings.
  22. I find the fatigue really difficult as well. I have been gluten-free since July 1 and I hope the fatigue starts to fade. I find I need a nap most afternoons, luckily I am on holidays. My iron level is low and I have been trying iron supplements. I understand the feeling and sympathesize with you.
