  1. Yes of course, I didn't mean that every mainstream item would be cross contaminated everytime. I was merely saying that mainstream items can in no way be guaranteed gluten-free and are susceptible to CC. So it would not be unrealistic to discover that someone got glutenized by Kraft BBQ sauce, that's all.
  2. The saying under my name says it all about how I feel about mainstream products. To those of you who have not ever become sick by eating supposedly "gluten-free" products by Kraft I would simply like to point out that cc WILL happen in facilities that are not dedicated. It would be silly to believe that it is impossible for someone to get glutenized by...
  3. I myself don't know how accurate Enteolab is but from what most on this forum have to say, they stand by the results they have received from this lab. Personally I was diagnosed by gastroscopy and that is still the most accurate way to diagnose celiac's however my result came back with so little damage done to the villi that the doctor's at first missed...
  4. Please don't be scared or stress too much over this. Just remember that you are THE advocate for your son and this means not taking 'no' for an answer. You need to go to your pediatrician and tell him your concerns regarding celiac's and ask him to have a gastroscopy done on your son. Do not take 'no' for an answer. If he refuses, take your son to see...
  5. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  6. Hi, I live in Abbotsford and regularly go into town to shop. It depends on what you are looking for but here's my suggestions: If you need staples like cereal, bread, treats etc...Save On Foods has a selection of gluten free products found in their "natural" section isle. They have frozen bread, donuts, pizza crusts, waffles, english muffins etc....
  7. I live in Vancouver and you can get great fresh bread at the Rice Bakery or Panno Rizo both located there or at the Mountain Top Bakery in North Vancouver. The Rice Bakery is a division of Choices Markets which is also located in Vancouver, Burnaby and South Surrey and they always have a great selection of fresh gluten-free bread. Hope this helps, Lauralee
  8. Question: This has been burning me since about two months before being diagnosed with celiac disease. Do any of you experience any worse symptoms around the time that your period comes? Most of my symptoms seem to be directly tied to it....can anyone relate or explain?? By the way, when I got my ears pierced when I was 4 they became so infected that...
  9. Hi Everyone, I've been not feeling very well so I haven't been by. I just wanted to say that I thank all of you soooo much, especially Rachel for everything that I have learned from this thread. I did read the entire thread from start to finish when I realized how informed and knowledgeable all you wonderful people are. I was desperate and I...
  10. This is why I don't consider any mainstream items at any time to be "gluten free". I never do my shopping with a list and always read every label every time I buy the product and carry my cell phone with me to make the call every time I am not confident of what I see listed there. Of course, I am ultra sensitive as well so I have to be over-the-top diligent...
  11. Okay, well neither one of you are alone because I LOVE THEM and I usually buy the buckwheat ones as they are my definite favorite!! My husband and kids just went gluten-free recently so they haven't tried them yet, which they probably won't be doing anytime soon anyways because we're going off all processed food completely. Soooo...I've got one box left...
  12. Hello!! It's good that you made it here! The first while is going to be tough, but ask any and all the questions that you have. Going on to the board and looking through old threads is definitely a big help!! The most important thing for you to do first is make sure you realise yourself, how serious celiac disease is and then make sure everyone...
  13. All the suggestions, concerns and ideas everyone has offered have been right on the mark but I think if it were me, I would direct this restaurant chain to contact the Gluten-Free Certification Organization run by the Gluten Intolerance Group out of Washington state. If this chain is serious about trying to accomodate patrons with celiac's then I think they...
  14. I agree with this. I too had trouble getting people to understand how serious a condition I had and I found that using the bigger more scientific terms changed their perceptions. It's like if you had the flu and instead of just saying that, you said that you had the contagious influenza type A Hong Kong strain virus...I think the latter would definitely...
  15. Actually my youngest son is in Kindergarten right now and he still hasn't had his 4-6 year vaccination either. I'm not in that great of a hurry for either of them. I read an article when sickie finger-licker was young about vaccinations not being mandatory. They sure make it look that way though don't they....scare tactics is all it amounts to. I do...
