ARCHIVED Non-Antibody Blood Tests For Celiac
guest134 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi all, I was wondering what blood tests are important when celiac is in suspicion. I already know of the antibody tests but I was wondering things like vitamins, red blood cell count etc... What should I have tested now? I have had every other non celiac related antibody test under the sun to make sure there is nothing else going on autoimmune wise and... -
ARCHIVED Why Is The Endomysial Antibody So Specific To Celiac?
guest134 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have noticed throughout my research and speaking to doctors that the endomysial antibody is "a thin connective tissue layer that covers individual muscle fibers. Anti-Endomysial antibodies are developed in reaction to the ongoing damage to the intestinal lining." -Open Original Shared Link Ok, so it is created in damage to the small intestinal villi... -
ARCHIVED Would You Guys Trust This As Gluten Free?
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Music to my ears, believe it or not I actually prefer the gluten free over the gluten containing version. Feels so good that I will still be able to have my Friday night pizza and garlic dipping sauce . Not to mention, with all their locations the ease of mind of picking up something quick. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Miss The Most?
guest134 replied to Slr38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I live in Ontario, so my stores are limited to the LCBO and Beer store. The beer store only has 1 gluten free brand and the LCBO has 5, however if you are willing to order online there are some really praised gluten free beers that non celiacs drink for the taste. Will give you a few good ones once I know. Also smirnoff ice is gluten free too. -
ARCHIVED Would You Guys Trust This As Gluten Free?
guest134 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I live in Ontario Canada and we have a province wide pizza chain called pizza pizza, they have gluten free pizza that they claim is prepared by specific utensils that do not come into contact with their gluten containing food. Here is the link to their site: www.pizzapizza.ca Trust-able source? Or should I avoid it? -
ARCHIVED Ema, Ttg And What They Really Mean
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those were my thoughts too, I am actually really interested in this whole issue since all the weird medical results I have gotten during salmonella and its aftermaths. Both my doctors and I hypothesized that I am probably one of the few that demanded a celiac test after salmonella and being healthy prior to infection. I am getting constant calls by doctors... -
ARCHIVED Should I Bother With Getting A Bioposy
guest134 replied to Demelza's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It depends on the type of person you are. I think I may have celiacs but there is no way I would diagnose it without a biopsy, for me I need to know beyond a doubt that it is what I have. How annoying would it be if you cut out gluten for years to find out there was another source of your problem? That is my opinion, there are people on this board that favour... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Miss The Most?

WHAT?!?!?!?! I don't think you are looking in the right places, in fact there are a lot of high end beers available gluten free. Most premium breweries have at least 1 good gluten free beer but they are hard to find in Canada. If I have celiacs I am going to be ordering premium beers in bulk online, they are available everywhere. If I get diagnosed I am going... -
ARCHIVED Ema, Ttg And What They Really Mean
guest134 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi everyone, I have been doing some research and after speaking to several doctors and I have some questions about EMA, TTG and what they really mean. First off, both antibodies are markers of inflammatory situations, when your endomysial layering of the small intestine gets damaged, both antibodies get released, the higher the number the higher the damage... -
ARCHIVED Need To Fast Before Any Of These Blood Tests?
guest134 replied to deals88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only blood test that requires fasting is glucose fasting, you are taking random glucose so you should NOT be fasting. If you go in with a fasting glucose when your doctor requested random he/she may think you are on your way to being pre diabetic when you are fine. Be sure to let your doctor know whether or not you have eaten in the event you get called... -
ARCHIVED How Long Do Results Usually Take?
guest134 replied to smpalesh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What lab did you go to? Gamma dynacare is a 4 day turn around for TTG. By the way did you have to pay anything for the TTG test alone or was it covered by OHIP? -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks, unfortunately the beauty of living in Canada is that it takes like half a year to see any sort of specialist. I could have an appointment sooner with another GI but she claimed this guy is the best in the city for celiacs so I will wait. I think I am going to wait until my H Pylori treatment is done and then I am going to retest the TTG and deam igg... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi everyone, Well everything came back negative, except for H Pylori, that is a positive. We took vitamin levels and other things to check for disease, everything was in range. Why do I have 2 negative EMA's? Went to two different clinics to rule out false negatives, both came back negative. Everything else is back except for the kidney and liver... -
ARCHIVED Update...and A New Symptom?
guest134 replied to Kitty Marmalade's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You had a TSH of 118 but your doctor refuses to test your thyroid? She then gives you synthroid and you go down to 25, instead of upping your dose of synthroid (which should be done to thyroid hormone levels not TSH) she adds in some random other drug. How do some people get their medical degree? That is just crazy, leaving your TSH that high can cause goiter... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Was called into the clinic yesterday, turns out my H Pylori test came back as inconclusive so they are retesting that now. If it is H Pylori than that would explain the antibody elevation, this shows that there is some inflammation going on though with all these weird test results. We ordered multiple tests to see if anything is going on autoimmune wise,... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiacs - How To Go About Getting Diagnosed?
guest134 replied to smpalesh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went into a clinic until I found a doctor who would give me it. They are pretty reluctant to give the tests as many in this province regard them as useless. Just go in and say you are willing to pay for it and want to get the celiac panel done. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiacs - How To Go About Getting Diagnosed?
guest134 replied to smpalesh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The celiac blood panel is 125 dollars and is not covered by OHIP. Go in and get it, you get the Tgg IgA, total IgA and both deamidated peptides, I did despite my doctors constantly saying it was a waste of time and money, I had odd results that are indicative that something is going on and now they are finally giving me the proper tests to find out. One tip... -
ARCHIVED Not What I Expected
guest134 replied to ivy light's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, at least you can eat whatever you want and ulcerative colitis can go into remission for decades (I have a friend whos aunt has crohns, same thing except different areas and she has been in remission since 17, shes 37.) What was your ttg score by the way? What lead you to think it was celiac more so than other issues? -

ARCHIVED Diagnosis Without Positive Bloodwork? Fever?
guest134 replied to kelly97's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Quick question for you, what relevance would colitis be? Is that something that comes with celiac or are they separate things? Like you either have celiac or colitis? -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, whatever infectious disease affects the colon will do the same for the small intestine. The damage is all over in bacterial infection. Yes the deamidated has a more specific reaction to gluten but the whole point is that during colitis, the entire digestive tract can become inflamed, which is misleading because you would think the word colitis refers... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you even read my post? TSH DOES NOT cause or alleviate symptoms, it is not a hormone, if your high TSH caused you symptoms it is because it was a reflection of how low your thyroid hormones were. That is not the case for me, my TSH is that level because of recent infection, it was higher than that and is still dropping, I was only using that as an example... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
guest134 replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, it is for the deamidated, here is the link Open Original Shared Link It has about the same specificity as TTG (about 98 percent) which is why it is being praised more, however just like the TTG, deamidated CAN rise as a sign of inflammation, especially if it is a very slight elevation like mine is. From my research and discussion with doctors... -

Wow, that is pretty cool to have some pro football players in the family. I think at 5'8 you turned out quite tall for a woman though, the tallest I have really seen are 5'10. Thanks for the info, will look that up.
