ARCHIVED Question About Anti-Endomysial Antibodies (Ema), Iga Class
guest134 replied to Mjay71's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the unfortunate reality is many doctors are not willing to do much unless you come in with horrid symptoms, if they would listen to the patient and do appropriate tests to catch early autoimmune I think the diseases in themselves would be of little issue. If treated early there are few AI's that can really hurt you, aside from Lupus, MS and type ... -
ARCHIVED Question About Anti-Endomysial Antibodies (Ema), Iga Class
guest134 replied to Mjay71's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I completely agree with that but unfortunately a lot of doctors don't. The correct view would be to say in of itself it does not have a high correlation with celiac (remember JUST celiac, nothing about NCGI etc..). It is very useful in a case where someone has an elevated TTG, with an elevated TTG and a negative reaction to gluten (positive AGA) it is... -
ARCHIVED Question About Anti-Endomysial Antibodies (Ema), Iga Class
guest134 replied to Mjay71's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Intolerance/allergy is what I meant. Yes it can go down in celiac as well as gluten intolerance when gluten is stopped but that does not correlate with celiac in of itself as it does not cause damage, it is simply a negative reaction to gluten that is not specific to celiac. For this reason some doctors are under the impression it is not helpful at all,... -
ARCHIVED Question About Anti-Endomysial Antibodies (Ema), Iga Class
guest134 replied to Mjay71's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have noticed this not only on the University of Chicago's site but many other medical sites as well that this forum references. Sometimes I get the feeling that there are multiple different people with very different opinions filling out the FAQ at Chicago University's website. They say that the gliadin antibodies are not useful for CELIAC disease... -

Em, I have always had the same thoughts as you, which is what I stated in my post. They have never been able to prove a direct link rather than someone with celiac developing cancer later in life, which is absolutely not fact on whether or not celiac caused it or if it was merely just a coincidence. Of course, chronic inflammation can increase issues... -

I forgot to ask that actually, exactly how bloody is the diarrhea? Is it a bit on top of the stool and on the toilet paper or are we talking a significant amount here? I just assumed with bloody diarrhea you meant a significant amount. -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive..do I Really Need A Biopsy?
guest134 replied to VeggieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are two types of false positives and I am not sure which one you are talking about: 1- Standard testing error: You test with the max being 20 and you are 21, next test and subsequent follow up you are back under negative, that would be an instrumental error. That can happen, especially with antibodies were a machine or person is diluting them, minor... -

ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive..do I Really Need A Biopsy?
guest134 replied to VeggieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gemini, it is great that you feel that way with yourself however the poster has expressed her own concerns on validating it to her family and doctors. We also don't know what tests she did have, what if it was the antigliadin IgG and it came back barely over positive? Not every case is clinically similar to yours so saying this happened to you so it will... -

I am 22, not actually diagnosed yet (still might not have it) but it can come up at any age. Bloody diarrhea is not typical of celiac (usually no blood). My suspicion earlier was with a still relatively low positive TTG without gliadin IgA positivity could be indicative of crohns disease. The fact that your diarrhea is bloody makes me lean to this more... -

That sucks, sorry to hear about all of your negative experiences. I too had some issues when we were questioning my thyroid, I had to go on the internet and come back with the right tests to get accurate results, luckily I am fine in that regard. Just out of interest, would you mind sharing your TPO, thyroglobulin and Free T levels upon diagnosis? -

guest134 replied to designerstubble's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"Elevated platelets are one of many abnormal laboratory findings that can be expected in celiac disease" Open Original Shared Link That is from live strong, I can't tell you how credible that site really is but most info I have seen on it so far seems pretty accurate. -
Some people make celiac out to be worse than it is. It is a disease, and having a disease sucks, we would all prefer to be disease free, BUT as far as diseases go this is easily managed. You don't need annoying medication and gluten free is healthy and a lot of people would be better off without it to begin with. -5 of the 6 food groups are naturally gluten...

The tissue transglutaminase (ttg) is a marker of damage in the small intestine, you are getting in the range were it becomes very specific for celiac. It can be low positive in other cases but your numbers would likely be in the 10-30 range to consider that. Antigliadin is outdated though, you were negative on it. Going to need some more info on your... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive..do I Really Need A Biopsy?
guest134 replied to VeggieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I feel the need to state once again, I do think that she has celiac (well obviously it makes her very sick) I was just saying that YES false positive blood work is a possibility, but not in her clinical case. There is a reason they say the clinical presentation is very important in diagnosis, she has it, positive blood work, it sounds good to us but NOT to... -

Why was it so hard to find hashimotos? It is 5 simple blood tests and you either have it or you don't, unlike celiac it is very easy to diagnose. -

And once again I will stress that your tests are very unlikely false positive, you get sick after eating gluten, seems obvious to me. -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive..do I Really Need A Biopsy?
guest134 replied to VeggieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tom, I just want to make sure she at least has every possibility of an accurate diagnosis and some people do heal a lot quicker than others, especially depending on how much damage there was. It is like having someone with a endomysial of 1:10 vs 1:3250, you can tell who is going to heal quicker. Tax breaks are in the UK as well. Open Original Shared... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive..do I Really Need A Biopsy?
guest134 replied to VeggieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, false positives do happen but I think in your case we can forget about that, you are obviously getting sick after eating gluten and if that does not show celiac I don't know what does. A biopsy to confirm celiac would be beneficial for a few reasons, one would be the tax breaks people with celiac get, two you can't ever get drafted into war but... -

False positives are more common than false negatives but that is dependant on many things. The EBV virus has been proven to increase Tissue Transglutaminase antibodies separate of celiac, did you have those tests around the time of the virus? EBV has also been known to cause nasty after effect symptoms that can last even years after the virus and antibodies... -

Wow, you scarily fit the celiac description, you really need to be tested. Unfortunately it will cost you money to get the celiac blood panel, I assume you live in the States, I am not sure of the costs down there. If you can pay out of pocket, I would, a situation like this can be life changing and would be well worth the money. Here are the tests you... -

If bedside manners meant the difference between having a job and not, 90 percent of doctors would be unemployed. I always find it funny how as a financial planner for a big bank I would lose my job in a second if I treated my customers the way doctors do their patients. If I rolled my eyes whenever a client was confused about some finance term and said "here... -

You could bet your bottom dollar that any post that comes from me is based off medical fact and not just my opinion, I would never share an opinion that I cannot support with medical link, that would be insane and wrong.
