  1. There was a segment about Celiacs and gluten-free foods. It was in the second half hour. I am sure it is available on NBC.com if you want to watch it. It was interesting and made me mad all at the same time. They interviewied this random couple in a MLB baseball park who were waiting in line for the gluten-free food. They asked why they were eating...
  2. Sorry you are having such a rough time. My story is a little different because I was diagnosed several months after giving birth... so we were not sure if it was just the Celiacs, or post partum depression. I am still in the early stages, as I was only diagnosed in May. I never went on an anti depressant though... good luck, I hope you find something that...
  3. With a friend like that, who needs enemies? No one needs to make you feel badly about something medical... self diagnosed, or not.
  4. I wouldn't worry about drilling a picture into the wall, but if you are doing some major work I would either delegate it to someone else, or I would wear a mask.
  5. I am sorry you have had such a hard time with this. I am relatively new to Celiac disease, and to these forums. I have always had a sensitive stomach. It has been getting progressively worse over the past 3 years, but never a full blown gluten allergy. In January I gave birth to my second son via emergency c-section. I began to feel worse and worse...
  6. Thanks everyone! I wouldn't say that I am angry- anger is a strong word. I am just annoyed, haha. I am also adjusting to people saying to me "My God, what DO YOU eat?"..."You mean you can't eat bread? I'd kill myself"... and the blank stare that ensues afterward when I am trying to contemplate what to say in response.
  7. Thank you!
  8. I followed up with a dietician after I got diagnosed, so I did have some follow up care- but not a lot. I have been really careful since finding out. Of course it is always possible to get cross contaminated, BUT considering how ill I got the 2 times I ate the wrong foods (accidentally), I would think that my stomach would be reacting as well rather than...
  9. Thanks! I have no idea what was tested for and what wasn't. Just to give you a picture of what happened... I went in for testing, went back to work from maternity leave the following week, received a call from my doctor WHILE at work several days later explaining what was wrong with me (food allergies, Celiacs, and an ulcer with H. Pylori). This was...
  10. to have a hard time adjusting to having Celiacs on an emotional level? I feel like I am almost in mourning sometimes. I never got to say goodbye to my favorite foods before cutting them out forever. Don't get me wrong... I am living my life, and most of the time I am fine, but sometimes I just don't want to be "different"... I want to be me, just a version...
  11. I guess this mindset is dependent on the amount of other people in the household. For me, I have 2 young children, a husband, and my sister living with me. I am def the odd man out with the "special" foods. When I cook meals, I make the main part of the meal (meatballs for example) gluten free, and then 2 different types of pastas. My stuff is segregated...
  12. I never considered that... great tips! I drink lactaid free milk, but I do still eat dairy, so I am sure that this is in my system. This is def worth a bit of research for me, thanks!
  13. Thanks for the tips! I am so close to being done with the masters so I am not willing to put it off right now. I am seeing my gastro soon... I will def ask him to do those tests so I can hopefully fix this exhaustion.
  14. I know I have a lot on my plate, no doubt. I will be done with the degree in December, so I need to just keep on truckin'. I just don't know why no matter how sleep I get, it doesn't seem to matter.
  15. Thanks for responding! Yes, my thyroid has been tested a few times, and I think it was on the panel when I was tested for Celiacs. I have a follow up with my gastro soon, I will bring it up with him. It is 8:24pm and my joints are aching and I am struggling to stay awake... I feel like I am 80, not 30.
  16. I absolutely would not trust these people with my health... they do not sound very diligent. Invest in either your own set of utensils or plasticware.
  17. Hi everyone. I am new here. I want to introduce myself and ask some questions. A little background on me... I was diagnosed with Celiacs at the end of May. I am 30 years old and have 2 children. My stomach has always been sensitive (and I have a hiatal hernia, an ulcer and GERD), but after I had my second son in January (via emergency c-section), I...
